The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is The Killing Game, Part 1. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

The Killing Game, Part 1:
When Hirogen hunters take over Voyager, they force the crew to play a deadly holodeck game, a simulation of WWII France where the Hirogen are the Nazis.

Loretta Lane

the musical section of this episode absolutely SENT me

Rich Gross

Robbie, EXCELLENT point about how it would have been so much better if the crew had been “themselves” sooner. It would have been very interesting to have seen them living in that WWII world with the Hirogen, struggling to find a way to survive and eventually end the scenario.

Tae Phoenix

Robbie's rock opera performance!!! *chef's kiss*

James Morrow

I hoped that my question would be selected to be answered-I never DREAMED that I would be rewarded with a musical performance by the star of stage and screen Bobby “Hi My Name is Bobby” Davis and co-starring the vocal talents of Captain Proton’s legendary pal Buster Kincaid! Please consider my Christmas stocking stuffed!! ;-)

Andrew Murray

I just remember Jeri's singing, which I assume is actually her singing and not a voice-over of another artist. I thought Tom doesn't turn up until the second part....along with Chakotay and a few others.

Andrew Murray

The secretive resistance aspect is kind of 'Allo, 'allo (British TV sitcom) meets Hogan's Heroes but with a tinge more seriousness to the story.

Andrew Murray

I'm disappointed they didn't keep the Tom-Be'lanna romance in it - for her character she's pregnant to a German officer, not to GI-Tom!

Andrew Murray

Names for Chakotay and Tom WWII scenario "Bobby McNeill" and "Tommy Beltran" ha ha (just a switcheroo on the actor names).

Andrew Murray

Mozart or Gilbert and Sullivan or Rogers and Hammerstein style?

Andrew Murray

Maybe they should have had every character usually in makeup (Roxanne, Ethan, Tim) out of their character makeup; would make more sense that Roxanne ("Brigitte") as fully human for the purpose of the holo-scenario, then changes back once they realise who they are with the neural link broken.

Andrew Murray

Human singing talent is obviously one 'biological uniqueness' the borg don't assimilate.

E Larocque

Thank you for the closest we'll ever get to a Delta Flyers Musical!

Debra Crockett

I agree with Garrett. It was great to watch the characters be the holodeck version of themselves.

Jennifer Z

I could easily see a singing episode where the only form of communication is through song and melody (like a song bird type species). Or at least a scene from the Doctor's fantasy's where he envisions characters singing during scenes.

Nancy Lapierre

Fun fact DeNeuf is French for of nine.

Lisa Minnesma

It was her voice actually. They said she had to pre-record it and was probably softly singing along to make it look "live". So it wasn't another artist's voice :)

Stephanie

I'm going to say that the winner was Roxann and the director because they didn't have to try and hide her pregnancy lol

MisterRob

Another fun fact: if you’re a fan of the TV show “The Good Place,” much of the filming done in Michael’s neighborhood over all four seasons was filmed on the Little Europe lot— the same lot being used for the outdoor town scenes in this episode!

Eric Leitman

I am such a huge fan of tom and Bellanas relationship

Eric Leitman

How do you ask a question in order to have it randomly selected

Eric Leitman

Or what is the process of getting randomly selected to ask a question

Janet Potts

Yeah, I was going to say that even with the little bit of French I took in college I had figured that out. 😆

Eric Leitman

How does that work. How does a question get selected? Is it chosen from this comment section

TheDeltaFlyers

The questions asked in each episode are from our Admiral level Patrons. That is a benefit for our supporters at that tier.

Mary Burch

John, between this and the Italian accent thing, you are SLAYING with your questions! Keep it up!

Christopher Collins

I was unaware how many of the guest actors in this episode were in other episodes of Star Trek. I also had no idea that this episode helped the writers write Kim for Timeless.

Eric Leitman

I wish they made a voyager movie after this series. As I think about it further however, I am asking myself, did their story end when they made it back to the Alpha Quadrant? Unlike TNG whose crew had regular Trek missions. Is it too far gone to even think of something like that where the origi

Eric Leitman

original actors would reprise their old roles. Maybe something like a “Picard” series. Seven is already there. Would love to see Roxanne as B’Ellana again in some kind of series. Garrett has already shown interest

Eric Leitman

In playing Harry Kim again. There would be many many happy Trekkers if this would happen. Sorry i dont know why it split up my comments

Christopher Collins

Captain Archer, Sisko, Janeway, got to be in Klingon makeup. I Don’t think we ever saw Kirk or Picard in Klingon makeup.

Heather Irwin

I would listen to Garrett's WWII deep dive podcast!

Kassandra

Yeah, me too. Hopefully he can give as a little more interesting details in Killing Game Part 2.

Luise

I hope we will see Garrett as "edgy Harry" if (when) Harry comes back in Picard-era Trek :)

ST Fan CB

RDM is now revising his whining about cast inclusion to complain about how the whole cast was there, but they were not playing their usual characters. His complaint splits hairs as he prefers Kate Mulgrew playing Janeway playing someone else rather than Kat Mulgrew playing someone else. Nothing pleases this guy. Hi-Larious to watch Garrett roll his eyes as RDM whines about this. What is a "live blank"? It is either a live round or blank. There is no "live blank"

Rachael Etka

"Nothing Pleases this guy" That's really funny coming from you, who seems to never have anything good to day about this podcast. You're tiresome and boring.
