I'm late to the party but I liked the music.

Jen V

I think you're referring to the previous episode.

Valerie Christine

My just shock and delight at an Anne of GG reference in a Star Trek podcast― two of my faves coming together! 🌟

Monte Plays Games

It's not a debate. A Different episode. Always my captain.

RemiTheNerd

I love that you guys are J/C shippers! yay! it's too much in the show isn't it?! All that subtext and touches and looks! Foe me Janeway is the winner for being just that damn smart! and us J/C shippers are the losers once again... lol

RemiTheNerd

OMG the way Robbie and Kate say 'Love you' at the end of their call melted my heart!

SnazzyO

I always like when the crew outsmarts the bad guys. I guess I thought Janeway was attracted to Kashyk but never trusted him. The interview with Kate was really interesting and adds a few more layers than I thought existed. Great podcast.

N+D

As a committed Mahlerian (and Voyager fan) I was delighted to hear his music in this episode.

Don Eitner

There's a slight logic gap with this episode. Traveling through this region of space, Voyager continues being boarded and searched BY THE SAME SHIP. It sounds more like that ship is escorting them, but then the aliens would surely detect the telepaths aboard when they aren't in stasis.

Tashicat

See my thing is like, at the end, obv Tuvok and Vorik weren't in the shuttle with the refugees, so where were they hiding during all that? ... ijs

Triple Seven

I’m sorry but the music in the background is annoying .

Tashicat

"We don't count that" lmfao

Tashicat

"lizard husband" hahahaha omg yall are hilarious tonight!!!

Craig Main

It’s a big error. Tuvok was even at his station the last time Prax hails them

bakura

Your right we do see other vulcans latter and it is mentioned latter that there are other vulcans on the ship.

James Morrow

I was lucky enough in the 80’s to spend a week with other teens from around the world at a leadership conference called HOBY. It was 20 hours a day, intense, and we formed bonds that were emotional and life-changing. When I hear Robbie, Garrett, Kate, and their cast mates describe the working environment on Voyager I think of that week. We poured out our hearts, our hopes, and our secrets to each other that week-the closeness and openness and honesty made it natural. But these people, all of them artists who make a living being open, did that for SEVEN YEARS, not one week. The kind of intimacy between them then, and the amazing friendships they have maintained to now, bring me joy and warm my heart. I admire these good people.

Andrew Murray

now we know why this is Kate's favourite.....

Nancy Lapierre

Robbie, there's a force field keeping the air in but letting the shuttle through

Andrew Murray

the Borg collective SHOULD be telepaths, since they would (logically) have assimilated Vulcans.... or Betazoids? Maybe they discard those "biological uniqueness". In any case, being linked to the collective is the next "best" (worst?) thing to being telepathic

Andrew Murray

Not a deliberate thing, but at least two occasions of people being "stuck" in transporters - Scotty in TNG "Relics" and Riker (Thomas Riker) in the ep where Riker's duplicate comes on board, I forget the episode name.

Christopher Collins

I never thought of that before but that does look like a video game controller. Now I will never not see that. I thought Garrett was going to say it looked similar to a Romulan Warbird without the hole in the center.

Christopher Collins

My problem with this episode is that never felt invested or believed Captain Janeway was really in love relationship even in the kiss at the end. It seemed so far fetched and I did just thought this relationship happened too quickly on screen.

Christopher Collins

I never really thought the lighting looked dark as dangerous but more to be sexual in relaxing but also dark to show something could happen bad but like in Mess hall while it is lit up dark I found it dark for dating purposes almost or keeping dark when looking at a computer screen to make it easier to read the screens.

Moonglade

LMAO! Garrett's reaction to the shuttle-bay kiss was perfect! My reaction exactly, LOL! My J/C heart shattered on the floor at my feet.

Christopher Collins

The beaning of people is seen in TNG with Scotty in the episode Relics. I think we also see that with Barclay a little bit in a few episodes after Relics as Barclay is scared of Transporters in the episode titled Realm of Fear.

Christopher Collins

I thought the nose thing by the scientist alien was CGI to make it look bigger.

Andrew Murray

I was thinking Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" as well. That would make a cool opening Voyager theme in itself. Sort of like the TNG/Star Trek I: the Motion Picture theme. Big, loud, orchestral.

Andrew Murray

Talking of Irish music, Janeway's "chill-out" irish music would be Enya. ("Orinoco Flow"...or similar).

Nancy Lapierre

Didn't cast divas in star trek? *cough* William Shatner *caugh*

Christopher Collins

My problem with this episode is I should have been more invested in the telepathic aliens in this episode to stay alive but They have such little character development and very little screen time besides a few scenes. I do like that they go through the log of telepathic characters including characters who passed away all the way back in the beginning of season 3.

Christopher Collins

The Thomas Riker was a little different in that the Transporter bounced off the atmosphere and created two Rikers. The buffer question is closer to Barclay stuck in the Transporter longer for the episode Realm of Fear. We saw buffer problems in Star Trek The Motion Picture and killed crew members.

Andrew Murray

Ka'pla! (forgive the spelling...) is sort of "live long and prosper" (?)

David Turner

I enjoyed this episode at the time with the COUNTERPOINT of the music in the background 😉 that at the time I went out and bought Mahler’s symphony number one on cd! I It really flows too. By the way Robbie when shuttle craft leave the bay there is a force field in place that keeps the air in but let’s more solid objects through like small craft. They established that in next generation I think.

Lisa Minnesma

Thanks for having Kate on! I was smiling big the WHOLE TIME!!!!!! :D :D

Karen Chuplis

7s?!?!!! Really?!?! Lol. I really did think you’d go 8 at least. It’s a very interesting different kind of ep. Great story. Amazing chemistry. Really good writing. Phenomenal performances. But it is to me really sad. That last pull out shot in Janeway is seriously heartbreaking.

Tae Phoenix

Biomimicry and flight! I love that example, Robbie!

Amy Tudor

I just wanted to say that this has been exactly what I needed after feeling a bit rubbish today. Thank you so much, what a wonderful interview with Kate! Brought a massive smile to my face :D

Jennifer Z

I love how innocently Garrett ponders "I wonder if there is any Janeway and Neelix fan fiction out there." Oh you sweet summer child. Yes, yes there is.

Rosemarie

When i heard Kashyk's name all I could think of was the wookie planet Kashyyyk. Looking up both names I like how Voyager just took out a couple Ys.

Knickers AKA Nicki T

Re-Technology that holds people in transporter,: in a deep space nine episode where Bashir is in his James Bond-ish holo, I believe they hold some of them in the transporter because the safeties have been removed and Garak & Bashir are the only ones aware that they are playing characters… if my memory is working…

Heather Irwin

Enjoyed the closing credits this week! :-D

Janet Potts

No. They put a bladder under the prosthetics that the actor could inflate by blowing through his nose.

Tara

Thank you for the interview with Kate! I can never get enough of her. And yes, that shot of Chakotay watching her walk into the ready room to meet Kashyk ... oh poor long-suffering Chakotay! But the kiss(es) -- the first one is pretty awkward, like he wants to kiss her but is not sure he should. So her response is a kind of, "Here, let me show you how this is supposed to be done!" And boy, does she! It hurt my J/C shipper heart as well, but at least it was smokin' hot. Personally, I love this episode for using Mahler so beautifully, as his music evokes memories of my father (Mahler was his favorite). It's wonderful to hear how much Kate enjoyed this one as well. More guest interviews! And more classical music in general! I'm off to listen to Mahler's 1st now -- it's been too long!

Lydia24Fan .

Great interview with Kate! It was difficult for me to listen to this podcast with the classical music maybe because it was too loud and I prefer not to listen to classical music. I ended up skipping all the parts with the music it was too distracting for me to hear Robbie and Garrett.

Brian Johnson

Can we get a version without the background music? Clever but distracting. Couldn’t watch it.

Samantha

No, see, you have to do the crime without the captain knowing ahead of time. Basically don't give her the chance to give you a direct order, and definitely don't let her directly order you WHILE you're committing the crime. That's brigville for sure.

Samantha

Counterpoint has to be in my top ten. PRAX!

Brandon Kolk

Close, that was a transporter malfunction and they had to store the patterns wherever they could

Irene Artho

I just got to the same point and I keep hearing the music rather than the conversation! It's too beautiful to ignore! I find it very distracting as well.

Irene Artho

They play classical music on some of the Tube (Underground) stations in London to avoid crime.

Charity Ponton

I think Tom was in the brig for disobeying orders more than breaking the prime directive. I mean, its captains prerogative to disobey the prime directive, but disobeying captains orders is more egregious in a command structure. This is one of my top 10 episodes

Sarah Thompson

Romeo & Juliet with Robbie and Megan Follows? I wish I could have seen that! I love her and grew up watching her Anne movies.

Rach V

My missing scene is Janeway and Tuvok working out their gameplay as I think she was very in control of the situation, even if she did fancy the dude. I think the Janeway/Chakotay thing has burnt out now. They didn't act on it and the show didn't drag it out so meh. That doesn't mean I think the 7/Chakotay thing worked at all! 🤮 I do think it was a good call to not have the captain boinking the first officer; I think another couple on the show with the leads would have been a bit ridiculous... Tom and B'Elanna were it for me. I think that stands as the best Star Trek romance ever (Riker and Troi had dalliances which ruined theirs). (Über BT shipper right here)

Christina

I give this episode a 9.1. It’s one of my favorites, and definitely my fave Janeway centric. It’s great seeing her really connect with someone, even though she doesn’t completely let her guard down. The chess game, as you guys put it, was pulled off fabulously! Janeway and Chakotay should’ve ended up together.

Anthony Cardenas

Gosh, what a great podcast episode. Was so nice to hear the genuine affection Robert and Kate have. So funny at the end, I bet Vorick would trade the info for a date with B'Elanna. 😅😊

Jason

One of my favorite episodes

Luise

I wish they'd included more, though. Like the Betazoid pilot and the Vulcan nurse who died from getting pulled to the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker.

Mark Lacey

The tune what hath gladdened my ears has changed! Sincerely Mark of Hampshire, England

Bree Boehlke

Absolutely one of my favorite episodes and that kiss… one of the sexiest kisses on TV, how she leans in while he kisses her hand. Just a fun episode, pacing and topic. Seriously on the Trek mountain for me.

Stephanie Baker

Fun podcast especially Kate on the phone

Janet K Harlow

I disagree with Robbie and Garrett. Captain Janeway would be listening to Aretha Franklin, especially "Sisters are Doing it for Themselves"

Rena Shephard

Great podcast! Thank you so much - it was a lot of fun! Love the bit after the credits, too.

Luz R

Tom and B’Elanna are the bestest!! Agree with you on best Star Trek Romance!!

Sierra C

I'd like to know where Garrett got the shirt he's wearing in this episode? I love it!

Armando Wessels

I can imagine how expressive Kate is with her hands while explainging her expierence without even seeing her XD

Ms Nike Morgan

"Hover" . . . Garrett, you are pronouncing it correctly!

Maria Mandry

Kate is fantastic! Such a great sense of humor!

Justin Rhoads

I think I was over the background classic music repetition around the first 30 minutes of this podcast…

ST Fan CB

The music is extremely distracting and needs to go. As stated by others here, there is a shuttle bay door and a shuttle bay forcefield that holds in the atmosphere when the door is open. This has been established in many previous episodes of Star Trek in various different series. People held in transporter suspension has been done twice previous to Voyager. 1. In the Next Gen episode Relics, Scotty has been in transporter suspension for some 70 or so years. 2. In the original series episode Day of the Dove, the Klingons headed by Kang, take Kirk and Co. prisoner and they all beam up to the ship. Only Kirk and Co arrive as the Klingons are held in transporter suspension and have their weapons removed by the transporter. It has also been done in the Pike Strange New Worlds series where the doctor holds his sick and dying daughter in transporter suspension so she does not die while he is working on a cure. Now how can Scotty be held in the transporter buffer for 70 years with no ill effects, but here in a more advanced transporter, the Doctor is saying that someone will die if they keep doing it. They are only in there for short periods of time during the inspections. Continuity error.

Cellomomma

Yes! Those kisses released (or built up) this sexual tension between these 2 lead characters. Even though I'm a J/C shipper myself I was glad Janeway finally got a little lovin' (even though he was a player, and she knew it). I agree with the Mahler choice hands down. Having performed this symphony myself I have always thought it was a "sassy" movement. When Janeway tells the computer to change from Tchaik to Mahler I laughed out loud! Tchaikovsky - a dense brooding composer - to this sassy movement of Mahler was a perfect representation of the moods being portrayed. Janeway sassed Kashyk back to his rightful place. Truly masterful writing for this episode!
