The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Riddles. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Riddles:
Tuvok is robbed of his psychological prowess after being zapped by an energy force, and Janeway searches for the `shadow people' responsible for the attack.

Honestly you guys should have a podcast episode where you write a fanfiction for Voyager. Or read fanfiction of Voyager that will be awesome 😆

SnazzyO

Robbie was right, this is a standout episode. Neelix is just AWESOME in this episode. Everyone suffering a tramatic injury should be issued a ‘Neelix.’ I found a stuffed Neelix pillow on Etsy. I would have loved if Harry had made a ‘Stuffed Neelix’ plush toy for injured Tuvok. My missing scene: Tuvok going to Neelix’s quarters and thanking him. Just showing up in the Mess Hall made Neelix’s sacrifice more poignant but I think Tuvok would have better manners. And yes, I was verklempt when Tuvok didn’t want to get the procedure done. I do agree with the ‘positions’ bit but it wasn’t central to the plot so I’ll ignore. I just LOVED this episode.

Loved seeing this side of Tim Russ ❤️

gotta admit... rewatching the episode and watching the recap... I kinda got excited thinking: what a good opportunity to have Tim Russ back on the podcast... or Ethan Phillips... or Roxann... or maybe even two or all three of them like a little reunion of a large part of the cast. A little disappointed that there was no interview with any of them at all... put it in the category of "my missing scene for this podcast episode" xD

As ever, thank you guys for another great episode review and discussion.

Christopher Collins

Riddles is probably one of my favorite Tuvok and Neelix episodes. It is so nice seeing Tim Russ do something different and show more emotion and laughter.

Christopher Collins

One thing I never noticed till seeing this episode is how much camera movement there is in this episode.

Christopher Collins

I am not sure why this particular episode is. It appreciated that much or easily gets forgotten even though it has great moments with Tuvok and Neelix. I think the fact that the alien plot is not that memorable and is so brief in the episode and the focus is on Tuvok and Neelix that the alien plot is so forgettable.

Good morning chaps, a great story #thewrongconsole and so good to see Tim Russ acting a different character. AND THANK YOU so much for my birthday clip. Andy, my husband, got you 2 to record me a birthday message. We watched it at my 45th Birthday party on Saturday, and my Trek buddies I made at London's 'Destination Star Trek' were with me and loved getting a mention, aww. I was so happy and so pleased. It was super. It's true that every Monday morning Andy can hear me chuckling and laughing as I listen to and watch Delta Flyers via patreon. Good on you lads, and may you be well and keep on enjoying this life.

Stephanie Davies

I'd say this is in my top 10 Voyager episodes. It's so beautifully written, and Tim and Ethan both give wonderful performances. It always leaves me with a huge grin on my face as the credits roll at the end. Big love for Riddles!! ❤️

Fun fact: Roxann has stated before that she didn't want to be in the episode because she didn't want to have to split her focus. :) she did have a scene where she talked to Tuvok about meditation.

Andrew Murray

There seems to be a noticeable absence of Be'lanna in this episode. How does a cast member when directing, account for that? Or the writers for that matter, knowing a cast member will be directing?

Andrew Murray

Neelix's relenting to see the bigger picture - Voyager needing its tactical officer back at the expense of a different kind of friendship with Tuvok also is a throwback to Spock's statement to Kirk of the needs of the many outweighi.ng the needs of the one". Kirk of course would politely disagree arguing that, on occasion, the needs of the one is greater.

Andrew Murray

We've seen Vulcans (across the Trek franchise) "lose control" and have their violent side come to the surface, so this is a welcome change I think rather than retreading old territory.

Samantha

Random, but I always liked the alien guy stepping in to save the day, content to simply know the truth himself.

Kelly Bee (CaptainKathryn)

LOL That was the best fake synopsis, and this episode is a really outstanding one IMO, especially for Tuvok and Neelix!

Tashicat

this is imo the 2nd BEST Neelix episode besides mortal coil. So bittersweet n tragic. the Kesat dude reminds me of a tamer agent Mulder from XFiles lolbvs

Tashicat

I still feel that the flower is origami n Tuvok only sealed it with wax... jmo tho

Tashicat

we should all be so lucky as to have a Neelix in our lives to help guide n support us thru life altering trauma <3

David McMullen

My biggest plot hole/ missing scene is when the voyager is surrounded by alien ships why didn't they just scan them for the cloaking frequency instead of trying to find out what the tricorder had on it. Why couldn't they scan the ship that fired on them for the frequency. That explanation is the missing scene for me and plot hole.

ST Fan CB

Why is Paris or some other medical assistant not in sick bay to help the Doctor? Janeway and Neelix are hardly qualified to do any of the things they were doing. The moving around of characters to duty positions they are not usually performing pulled me out. Directorial preference or style is not justification to have characters do things they have never done before. Moving Kim over to Tuvok's station was simply so that the actor could have those lines. It would have been easy enough to have a background actor there then have Kim come over and relieve him in order to talk to Tuvok.

Eric Bennett

What Robbie doesn't know about Star Trek, since TNG days, is that people can move to different console. You can call up a different station from wherever you are on the bridge. Garrett could move to tactical and use the Tuvok's station... or he could call up his own.
