The Klingon language lesson was the same words as from Riddles! Did anyone catch that?

From a Science Fiction perspective, I think this epsiode hits on all cyclinders. It’s epic in scale and implications. Roxanne was shorted time, as well as Chakotay. Taking Seven on the away team is a plot device for more screen time. It would have been Tom before (she even reassigned him to help engineering as a weak excuse). This is an excellent hour of TV IMO but marred a bit by being able to ‘see the man behind the curtain.’ Specifically, you can see the hand of TPTB in budget use and screen time. That’s a pity. It takes you out of the story.

EMH responding to Robbie's made-up synopsis: "I'm a doctor, not an dental hygienist!"

I accept that it's raining and walk with dignity -- no umbrella for me, I thoroughly enjoy walking in the rain. Too bad I live in soCal and get almost none of it.

DogBlud

I'll admit, this episode runs afoul of one of my least favorite tropes, where the only reason the plot works at all is because someone - in this case, the Turei - didn't pass on one single key piece of information. I mean, I have the luxury of hindsight *without* the crushing weight of having to churn out a 24 episode season, but IDK. It seems like there were other ways to tease out a similar plot without having to lean so heavily on coincidence/a fluke of timing (like, IDK, spitballed example, something to do with a universal translation error in what the Turei dude says that Neelix catches but the others don't).

Craig Main

You should come to Scotland. Walking in the rain is a national pastime

weird how Paramount+ synopsis is "Mysterious corridors in space lead to the discovery of an ancient civilization" but Netflix is "Voyager is pulled into a subspace corridor, travelling 200 light-years until pushed out by the Turei who claim ownership of the labyrinth". The Delta Flyer synopsis different again: "Escaping from a powerful armada, Janeway and her crew take shelter on a desolate planet where they find a slumbering warrior race.".... Kind of all tell the same thing but each misses the plot points of the other.

Andrew Murray

The only 'flight attendant' from TV I can think of is Tegan (the aussie from Brisbane) from Tom-Baker era Doctor Who.

Andrew Murray

Seven has an excuse for not knowing...she wasn't a borg 8 centuries ago.....and the the Collective memory is fuzzy.

Christopher Collins

I never realized Garrett had a telescope till seeing the rewatch for this episode.

Andrew Murray

a "phantom army" using "subspace corridors"....hmm would that be...the Borg? ha ha.

Christopher Collins

I thought it was cool that this episode finally was able to go back to Neelix and use his cultural knowledge to explain this species but not by his own knowledge as much as his cultural knowledge of history. I found that unique. Since season 3 Neelix has not been able to do that but now in season 6 finally found a species Neelix could engage with.

Christopher Collins

I am just surprised that a satellite would still be in orbit 800 years later. Even Earth satellites don’t stay in space for that long and survive.

Andrew Murray

Regarding a non-chalant Tom Paris....never tell him the odds of navigating a Borg debris field....and I'm sure warp 10 beats the Falcon on the Kessel run too.

Andrew Murray

"leaving instructions for someone to find you" would be not a good idea if you're HIDING from the enemy!

Andrew Murray

waking up in the future coming out of stasis - is it going to be "Demolition Man" or "Forever Young"....?

Don Eitner

I want to say Jack Tripper's girlfriend on "Three's a Crowd" (successor to Three's Company) was a flight attendant.

Jess Dale

It bugs me how the Vaadwaur keep referring to themselves as being 900 years out of date. Yes in relation to the Turei that's accurate but not in comparison to Voyager (when he's about to enter the password to the satellite), from a completely different quadrant of space let alone era of technology :/

Jess Dale

And also, how do they know, after 900 YEARS, which corridors no one else knows about?? That should've been a red flag right there!

Peter Lucas

And a Vaadwaur year is presumably not 365 days so goodness knows how long "900 years" is anyway!

Samantha

I have to assume the translator converts units of measurement and time as well. Because this is always the case.

Orsolya Toth

the video is not working for me :( it says to refresh the page

Earth has been launching satellites for only some 60 plus years now. Don't you think that an advanced race with advanced technology would have the means to launch durable sophisticated satellites that would remain operational for hundreds of years?

ST Fan CB

I wish there were more of an effort by the boys to include prior Star Trek connections for all the guest star info briefs. That is what is interesting to me. Jeff Allin - Was in an episode of TNG and as a voice in the Borg PC Game Robert Knepper - Was in an episode of TNG where is played Troi's arranged groom. Horrible episode. Why didn't the Vaadwaur just escape through their underspace tunnels in the first place instead of hiding? There are two similar stories in Greek mythology regarding the sowing of dragon's teeth that produce warriors from the ground. One of them is the familiar Jason and the Golden Fleece story. In both stories, the two protagonists were advised to throw a precious jewel or other desirable object amongst the warriors that will cause them to fight each other which would kill them off. Too bad the writers of this teleplay did not follow the old stories more closely and allow the Voyager crew to come up with something that would cause the Vaadwaur to kill each other thus solving everyone's problems. I think we have seen enough of Seven whining about being a Borg and doing mean things to other races. I don't believe the Vaadwaur have been mentioned at all prior to this. How in the F are 900 year old ships with Ion drive going to do anything to modern and technologically superior ships? That is the biggest hole in the plot to me. The crew of Voyager would have eventually awakened the Vaadwaur after some study. Seven just jumped the gun acting without orders which is her MO. How many times are they going to allow Seven to do what she wants with no repercussions? She should not be allowed to go on away missions if she cant follow orders.

Eric Bennett

I've always enjoyed this episode. One thing I agree with RDM on is Neelix and his investigation into the Vaadwaur in his history. Garrett and Robbie sometimes critique episodes using 21st century thinking. Commenting about Janeyway coming up with something off the top of her head about the amount of energy to pull into the manifolds. This is the 24th century now and we have faster than light travel. Janeway probably holds the equivilent of multiple PhDs of education and experience in engineering. You don't just become a captain by pure chance. Who's to say she hasn't done something like this before? Again, I've always enjoyed this episode. It is well done and thought out and it is one of my favorites in re-watch.
