The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Repression. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Repression:
After members of the crew are discovered unconscious, Tuvok leads the search for the mysterious attacker who preys on those involved in the Maquis resistance movement.
Meanwhile, off screen, Tom and Harry stage a great escape that goes down as the greatest of all time. Unfortunately, no one was there to see it. So, we’ll just take their word on it.

i do not know about the rest of the ship, but maybe the holodeck does not have cameras because people (like Chakotay) do private stuff in there. and for the rest of the ship, maybe Tuvok deleted the footage? we know that he covered his tracks, like where he was during the attack

Andrew Murray

Robbie didn't do his limmerick? They started discussing crew and guest stars after Garrett's Haiku.

Andrew Murray

5000 weeks? Do your math Garrett - that's NINETY SIX YEARS.

Andrew Murray

I love the ep presented the "old time" movie theatre, playing "Creature from the Black Lagoon" (or something like that) in old-style 3D in a "modern" holographic environment. Another of Tom's nostalgic touches.

Andrew Murray

The last time Janeway tried to help Tuvok with "repressed" memories, they both ended up reliving events from"Star Trek VI: the Undiscovered Country" on the Excelsior.....

Andrew Murray

Harry could have said to Tuvok, "you're not running that Marquis mutiny training scenario that Seska hacked again are you?"

Andrew Murray

Tom should have done the "SSSSHHHHHH!" thing at Harry and asked him to sit down.

Andrew Murray

The only thing with a three-parter, is I wouldn't want a repeat of "Basics" if it plays out the same, but the bad guys are Marquis, not Kazon.

Indhya Sherman

i'm shocked that they didn't talk about B'Eannas reaction (or lack thereof) to tom getting shot, she just saw Chakotay shoot her husband and all she does is sit up and look a tiny bit shocked?

sab ewell

I think the holodeck has privacy settings 🤔

Ken Ream

Was Robbie being funny when he called "Reversal of Fortune" a TV biopic? Jeremy Irons won the best actor Oscar for "Reversal of Fortune".

Samantha

i could have done with more maquis takeover and less mystery build up. just for the fun drama cuz this is the only time they'd get to do that.

Irene Artho

This is the first ever episode where neither the title nor the pictures that come up when I google the episode ring any bells for me. I truly seem to have repressed this one! Or I somehow skipped it in every rewatch of Voyager I've done so far - and that's definitely more than 2 or 3!

Estelle Keller

I think he misremembered or found the wrong info that was a huge movie and when the actual event happened it was a major news story in NYC where Robbie lived though it was in the 80s that the original events occurred.

Estelle Keller

The PT cartoon I wonder if anyone else hopes that becomes available on the Delta Flyers store. I doubt we’d get a tee shirt or tote with it…

Ian Ramsey

Robbie beat me to the punch! An upcoming video I'm doing research on is how there are no flipping security cameras in Star Trek except for when they want it for the story.

LeeAnne Forsythe

When’s Robbie gonna do the opening intro for this podcast? I think it’d be cool if he did

Tara

This is one of those episodes where I get so annoyed that there was no ongoing continuity during the season or even farther. I know it's an old complaint, but the idea that Janeway had her new bestie/long-time romantic interest Chakotay actually order her old bestie to shoot her based on one old incantation, and she had to stand there and watch Tuvok pull the trigger?! (!!!!) Then Chakotay "wakes up" and just says, "Hey, thought you'd like your ship back..." without even a "I cannot express my regret and I hope you will forgive me?" Then, other than one smart-ass retort, she's just fine and now let's watch a 3D movie... The missing scene for ME was the one where she talks to Chakotay about what happened, they process it at least a little bit, he renews his pledge to be "with her, always" and then they come up with some kind of "trigger word/phrase" (ok, safeword) of their own should anything remotely like this EVER come close to happening again ... Yes, she would understand what happened and be able to forgive Chakotay, but that might take a few days (at least!), and NO, she would not be 100% free of trauma OR residual anger at him and Tuvok. She's be hanging out with B'Elanna & Tom & Harry for a while. GRRR. I think I rated this a 7, and that might have been generous.

I agree, I actually really loved this episode up until the last couple of minutes and I know Voyager does this a lot overall but the ending feels way to rushed. This would have been such a good 2 parter but it feels like they just realised they were out of time and ended it. Janeway being perfectly OK at the end is a bit too much of a stretch. I love the starfleet/maquis tension generally but it needs to be resolved with something more than "the end"

Crappy episode. So I am supposed to suspend my disbelief that some disaffected Bajoran thug on the other side of the Federation from Earth and Starfleet: 1. Knew that Chakotay's Maquis crew and Voyager were lost and then found again and that the Maquis were now on Voyager and free and not in the brig. 2. Knew that Tuvok has survived the 6 years in the Delta Quadrant 3. Knew that Starfleet was sending routine messages to Voyager 4. Had the skills to hack into Starfleet communications, find Tuvok's son's message, change it and then save it back to the Starfleet database. Unbelievable...literally Starfleet security is obviously shit for all this to happen. I should not be surprised due to the amount of times in all ST shows when bad guys hack into or take over Starfleet ships or installations. Can you imagine if US Navy ships got taken over at the same rate as Starfleet ships? Redonkulous I agree with RDM that the shadow looks just like Tuvok. Janeway tells Tuvok that she is putting him in charge of the investigation. Who the hell else would be in charge as he is the security officer? Tuvok says he suspects that one of the crew is responsible. Who the hell else would it be as their are no alien visitors on the ship. I understand ST has used other mysterious forces before as the culprit but would not logic dictate to explore the obvious first? Then later Janeway has a snit about Tuvok suspecting a member of the crew. SMH. Torres shows the same concern about her husband getting shot as a bug getting stepped on. What a crappy wife. Everyone keeps talking about the "Maquis Rebellion" as if they were rebelling against the Federation like the Revolutionary War. There was no rebellion as the Maquis were simply terrorists, traitors or freedom fighters depending which side you were on. They were a resistance group fighting against the Cardassians who were taking over and terrorizing the former Federation colonists in the demilitarized zone. Another example of Janeway as a shitty captain and badly run ship. A prisoner keeping his comm badge (cell phone) and then goes into the cell with him. The maquis run the brig just as bad as later, the brig guard and Janeway are allowed to keep their comm badges when the Maquis take over.

I disagree with the assumption that Teero had practiced the same mind control techniques on the entire ex-Marquis crew. If this was the case, there would've been no need for Tuvok to complete a mind-meld on each crew member. In fact, the mission would have been more likely to succeed if they had been triggered by a message from home just as Tuvok had been, avoiding the need for mind-melding if Tuvok was incapacitated. Yes I get Tuvok's message from home had an in-bedded sub-conscious Vulcan signal; but if Teero skills were as good as he was credited with, he would have found a way to reach the rest of the Marquis that was more probable to succeed. On another point, Tuvok has stated previously that each time a mind-meld is completed, the Vulcan takes on a piece of the recipients personality. If you take in the fact he did the whole ex-Maquis crew this time round, and the countless others before this episode, that's quite a lot to take on (Vulcan or not) making anyone a little unstable. Despite this, Tuvok always throws his hand up (Unimatrix Zero anyone?)!

ST Fan CB

I agree that Teero only programmed Tuvok. The dialog in the episode was a bit unclear talking about "waking up" the Maquis, etc.

Rachelle H

Once again I agree with Mr. Robbie, was not a good episode

Labrek

Even if they all became Maquis again nothing would change. They would all just still work together with the starFleet crew to get back home. There would be no reason to strand anybody.

SnazzyO

Keith Szarabajka has 260 (!) acting credits on IMdB. That’s got to be close to a record. He is excellent at ‘psychotic evil zealot’ (See ‘Angel TV Series S3/4). There were some logic gaps; like WHY?! enact this scheme in the first place). I also would have liked to see a little more Star Fleet resistance. Loved the visuals on the 3-D glasses.

Dee McGee

Yes Robbie, all the butter!! Edited to add: Another episode proving Tuvok easily succumbs to mind control.

MG

Not sure what Robbie was talking about. It's said right in the episode that the attacker must have access to security protocols to be able to get away with it and not leave evidence.
