That whole notion of an attack being unsuccessful, or having failed BECAUSE no civilians are harmed... It's giving the real game away. It's dark, but shorn of any connection to, or sense of, a shared humanity it's also coldly logical: kill the people and you kill your enemy. You don't even have to kill all of them, just enough to destabilize the government so the next government will accept a slower suffocation as opposed to immediate destruction, and be more compliant to the needs of empire. The Fattah-1 missiles that Iran used in this attack are much more accurate, and a great number of them (~30) hit Nevatim airbase. Granted, it's mostly empty space, so the damage was not that severe. But I think you're right that Arrow 2 (or Arrow 3) rather than David's Sling would've been the systems to intercept this barrage.

Jake, I hope things are ok for you. I literally can't imagine what that kind of catastrophe feels like to have happening all around you. The hilariously stupid fact of the world is that there's no shortage of catastrophes happening right now though, and I'd say that most of us are grey wolves for the view of what's happening in the world outside of the one you get from the NYT and CNN and the American mainstream press. The politics is what I'm here for, but I can see how that might be very frustrating if I was surrounded by some other crisis. I'm sure that someday there'll be a show about this hurricane response which is sadly hilarious and depressing. When they do that one, if it ends up being a paid one, I'll request that it be unlocked in your memory. In all seriousness though, take care of yourself and best of luck.

hate to be the bearer of bad news on this front, but it's a little insane to claim that half of the IOF's f-35s were taken out in the strike - we have a lot of satellite imagery of nevatim air base, and the hangar that got hit houses transport and tanker aircraft, not fighters, and damage to the runways and taxiways was pretty marginal. it was more of a psychological/messaging/symbolic victory than a significant military action

What do you mean marginal damage to runways? Fighters of any kind aren't worth much without tankers either. Additionally, if they hit runways and tankers they probably hit whatever else was sitting outside. Being a stealth fighter does no good sitting still on the ground. Faking images also isn't remotely new. No way to know what was hit unless you're there in which case I wouldn't believe you.

again, there's a lot of open-source (that is, independent, private company) satellite imagery that's been independently vetted and confirmed, like the ones I linked to. nothing would be sitting outside by the time the missiles hit unless the IDF is even more incompetent than we thought (which I can't rule out), it takes a while for missiles to actually impact after launch - you could even see a number of their tankers take off on the flight tracking websites immediately before the missiles hit for that exact reason. even ignoring that entirely, it's pretty clear that their air force is still operational since they've been busy bombing residential neighborhoods in lebanon and syria the past few days. but really that wasn't the goal of this strike, iran has a lot more missiles than the ~200 they shot in this attack - this attack was proof that they're accurate enough to hit the right area and overcome IOF missile defenses, when they actually want to ground the IAF and make the bases unusable, the next volley can be triple the size.

Are those independent satellite imaging companies sitting over Israel anything like the independent walkie talkie and pager companies? Can't even get accurate GPS data in the region, I'm dubious of any imagery being produced. I don't use twitter so I can't see that shit. They don't know exactly where missiles are going to hit because the path can't be known from the origin. They could simply always launch everything into the air everytime there is an alert, which is not a small undertaking, especially if the runways are damaged early enough. If 1/10 that number are launched, will they launch the whole fleet? If 1/10 are launched over 10 hours are they going to stay up that whole time? Maybe they will idk. It doesn't take that many fighters to bomb Gaza. You're bombing Detroit from...Detroit. If they can hit the runways with any accuracy we will see who Israel's real friends are because they will not be able to land back home.
