Howdy cowpoke. I reckon if you're coming around these parts, you're wearing a chambray shirt that cost $225 to a Zoom meeting about scheduling a company wide meeting in August, and you're fixin' to water your Citibike and toss a few back listening to a podcast. Well, if you're a hooplehead (?) you'll find Felix and Matt, the best lawmen this side of the Mississippi (?) talking about the excellence of Deadwood and how it relates to the founding myths of America, as well as the limitations of TV itself.

“You can’t cut the throat of every cocksucker whose character it would improve.” Greatest show ever written.

regarding reverend smith i read his death as the victory of calvinism in america, the extinction of any liberatory or socialistic thread in american christianity & the total subordination of christ to capital

I always thought of Farnum as something of a writer self-insert lol, like a Shakespearean fool, his soliloquies are shockingly elaborate, reading the book of quotes and committing them to memory shows a genuine interest in (and degree of mastery over) language, but because he’s accepted his lot in life the only thing he can think to use that for is complaining to no one lol. I always thought that’s why he forgets the names, to assure himself that writing, the one thing he would probably be competent at, would leave him with no legacy or future. What would a brilliant screenwriter do back then? Be a busybody newspaper reporter? No, he would be too narcissistic. He would have no choice but to become a terrible businessman who is abused by every functional member of society for being useless lol

I am very curious what Felix and Matt thought about the post dead wood Milch HBO shows John from Cincinnati and Luck. I’m still baffled how he went from deadwood my next show will be about “mystic surfers”. John from Cincinnati really did seem to have that deadwood like dialogue and many of the deadwood cast. Ed O‘Neill being there make me very curious if he perhaps he could have played some new character on the 4th season that never happened.

Could you have been born, Richardson? And not egg-hatched as I’ve always assumed?

Dec

Hog of the Forsaken 😻

Matthew

And we, Richardson, you, I, and tragically others, so very many others, who journeyed to the hills to stake their claims and with those claims their hopes for the future, are but pawns of the savage sea and playthings of the fucking deep. Not for us, apparently, the placid harbour on which voyages, near complete, to bob and rot, bob and rot, becalmed. For us, to the very end, the dizzying surges of the STORM and its crashing descents!

Matthew

My interpretation had long been that, on some level or other, he hopes that if he genuinely forgets his sources he might technically not be a plagiarist; however, this is so pathetic and wretched that it has to be correct, and I have thus accordingly updated my Farnum doctrine 🫡 🙏
