George RR Martin, if you are reading this, I do not doubt your ability to finish anything. I know you will complete Elden Ring. I know I will not just play it on my deathbed in 2080. Please sir.

theres something endearing about a review that doesn't even give a clear picture about what the show was even about

The Dorne stuff in the books rules actually

Something missing in the Tolkien discussion is the understanding that Tolkien was in the business of creating mythology, not GOT style hyper realism. That said, the characters in his primary tales do show recognizable human emotions and dilemmas. This stands out more in the Silmarillion than in LOTR

It’s so embarrassing how badly I still crave Winds of Winter after all these years

Doran has one cool monologue but we know there’s not going to be any payoff from that storyline.

lake

I don’t care about payoff tho, my favorite storylines are the ones that don’t really matter.

Felix watching the game of thrones equivalent of Vaatividya at 5 AM is just... cursed. Like im unwell, but not that unwell

king_von_diesel

Felix saying he liked the boys... man, the early Biden years really were a simpler time

enter_krzysz

Too bad there wasnt more Dune talk >_<

Adamhac

one of the most overrated shows in the history of television. Such self important mediocre shite

Agent Grange

This episode gave me the best, most concise response to anti-semetism I had ever heard at the time. "Motherfucker, on who's behalf?"

It would be the funniest thing ever if George posthumously released a dream of spring and deleted all his work on winds of winter. Or his estate releases like 50 books about the crannogmen and essos. Not even the doom of Valyria, things people care about. He’s got 4 books just on hotpie bc fuck you that’s why.

I just finished my first watch of the show, and man, jesus fucking christ, that last season is so goddamn dour and miserable and unsatisfying. The Hound is arguably the only character who felt like he had a believable arc and satisfying conclusion. No ludicrous half-assed heel turn moment, no out of character descent into being a fucking imbecile, just a full, real journey of redemption that concludes with his resignation to his penance. Everything else fuckin sucked dick, I cannot believe how bad this show got. It was still enjoyable in a pure id way, up to a point, but nearly everything in S8 was just straight up miserable and infuriating.

Shout out to the Have A Nice Life reference in this one, that made me happy.

Mac

Agreed. Tolkien is operating in an entirely different register, like you said he is creating a mythologized world, not a pseudo medieval England. Saying there is no focus on resources in Tolkien is absurd, its like some nerd going "um actually the Augean stables would need be mucked out every day, so no Hercules wouldn't actually have to divert a river to clean them"

Ash

baby butter ?

Sexual Harry Potter

I watched the show a long time ago and don’t remember much and was pleasantly surprised to find that this game of thrones deep dive contains almost zero game of thrones spoilers and I can continue reading the books knowing exactly as much of the plot as I did before listening to this
