Will welcomes comedian Eddie Pepitone to the show for a bonus interview. They rap on keeping comedy political, celebrity sell-outs, veganism, Bill Maher vs. Billy Joel, trying to calm the rage, and of course, being Just Kids From New York.

Oh yeah 😅

Jon Smith

I’m about sick and god damn tired of this podcast giving me exactly what I want in guests

Ant koz

Mikey blocked me a few months back.. any all caps references to being just a kid from New York still stings

Travis

Eddie’s the best!

Shiv

if you two just did an hour on romcoms? wouldn’t be mad at it

Lee

To quote the singular Bill Hicks- ‘you do an ad, you’re just another whore at the capitalist gangbang. Every word you utter is now a turd dropping into my drink’. Fuck sell outs. Make em ashamed again.

Lee

Hahah oh shit I typed this out before minute 9 haha

The Playing Field

What I wouldn't give to hear Eddie and Matt in conversion with each other.

Shane-A112

gonna have to take matters into my own hands over this Yankees business. GO O's!!!!!!

Zach H.

What took so long in getting Eddie on this show? You both make your own schedules! C’mon!

Jammy Cooks

Ahhh sad that Felix wasn't also on this. Would love Pep on a standard show.

Alex C

This is that good slop, its something about the variety in texture. Like trail mix

grymm

Selling out became okay when Busta Rhymes did a Mountain Dew commercial in the late nineties. Its all Busta's fault.

William Sallen

Really love whenever Will does an interview with an old school comedian. Always turns into a conversation that is nostalgic, endearing, and funny. I've never been to New York but I as a homer for my small town in Iowa, I really like how much you can tell Will really loves his city

khomen in the membrane

I'll weigh in on the methane thing: methane is a potent greenhouse gas but it has a short atmospheric half-life so at any time we could cut back and the problem would be solvedmore or less then and there, whereas CO2 doesn't significantly degrade atmospherically, so every bit we put up there stays, meaning it's a much more pressing issue that we stop that immediately.

hrtzgod314

I'm a new fan of this podcast as of a few months ago, and Will in the early days compared to now is a great transformation as an interviewer and host

Dee Rubes

Amen Eddie. Animal agriculture is responsible for about 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions, and the methane it produces is 30 times more potent than CO2.

Dee Rubes

Unfortunately commercial lab grown meat is probably a pipe dream. After years and many millions of dollars there is no feasible method to scale it up…and it still requires the slaughter of animals to make. 😢

Dee Rubes

I read this and looked it up. Half life of 9 years. Seems like CO2 is more like 72 years? I see your point but they both seem not great. Am I missing something?

Regular guy

Most researchers take the opposite position: that since methane is so potent and its emission can be avoided more easily than CO2, it's a low-hanging fruit solution to target immediately as we near unrecoverable climate tipping points

Matthew Dunn

Gotta say I just watched the Billy Joel documentary and he’s definitely talented and even did some songs I like. But I can’t stand his personality.

khomen in the membrane

Idk where 72 comes from, there's no significant chemical degradation of atmospheric CO2, it's cycled by geological processes. The halflife should be like thousands of years or just "N/A".

khomen in the membrane

That I could see, maybe prevent some scary feedback cycles. Idk I'm a chemist so that part I'm not really able to speak on.

🤷🏼‍♀️

As a climate scientist, yes methane is important but cow flatulents are in our earth system models and we frequently talk about methane to the public, especially with thawing permafrost

Ry Guy

I listen to Eddie’s podcast and was not expecting this crossover! Folks should check out Apocalypse Soon

Ant koz

Hell yeah waited many years to hear the EARL shouted out on this show. Worked in that kitchen for many years, best spot in east ATL..

b2b saas purveyor

I for one am unashamed to say that I hate Billy Joel

Jeremy Logan

I remember waaaay back when Pepitone closed like every WTF podcast with a rant. Always wondered why Marc stopped having him on.

Tom T

🗣️🗣️🗣️ Pottstown PA mentioned!!!! Trojans and Falcons stand up

Samari McCloud

Yall need to have Whitney Webb on the show

Ian Priest

C'mon man, I'm not saying it's not a serious source in it's own right but there's no way Livestock farming in a million years generates more greenhouse gas emissions than ALL fossil fuel energy, that's absurd.

Stephen

Fuck, the way Eddie describes SI is how I felt when we moved from Yonkers to W. Jersey... legend

Siddhartha

Delightful interview.

🤷🏼‍♀️

Co2 gets incorporated into plants and algae via photosynthesis, it absolutely has a half life shorter than thousands of years

NerdsMakeMedia

The game show guessing the cost of war is sublime.

Vivi

I really love these episodes where Will spends an hour shooting the shit with a random aging New York comedian. I could listen to this all day!

Doug Cartel

Forget lab grown meat, just get creative with mincing veggies into different flavors of impossible burgers We mostly ate vegetables before refrigeration and didn't start making meat into MURICA culture bullshit until the 1950s when the farms had a massive meat surplus that they were desperate to offload

Harry P. Ness

love that he said that about the jet flyovers at sports games – I work at a school near Comerica Park that gets occasional A-10 flyovers and one time I made a comment about how they're better off flying over our kids than killing someone else's and everyone in the staff room reacted like I had just said the N word

MKatieUltra

Yeah I haven’t listened to Marc in years but nice to hear Eddie again

B

listening to this was a treat for my eardrums.

Ahstin (she/her)

I think he was referring to the fact that methane has a stronger greenhouse effect ton for ton vs. co2. But yeah, CO2 is a much more pressing problem because we generate so fucking much of it anytime we want to go anywhere or do anything in this country.

Daffy

The link to pre-order seems broken now. But if you go to their website anyway and search Year Zero the page to buy the pre-order still works. Probably for another hour or two from now. I was able to still order it an hour ago. I was frightened I missed it procrastinating until my last paycheck.

Quincy Markowitz

Lab grown meat is not remotely scalable. It’s more venture capitalist garbage.

etienne

thinking too much about methane is insanely bad for mental health actually. Consider this: a huge portion of aging gas wells in the US aren't sealed off properly after their big productive youth but get sold off to fly by night operations that kind of operate them at a lower level to not have to spend the money to properly dispose of them so as a result you have those vast networks of production fields that generate pretty minimal commercial gas but are decaying and generate a huge amount of just leaked off methane which is a 30 times worse greenhouse gas agent than CO2 it's a big right wing meme but literally cows burping while we milk them for cheese is a genuine middle weight contributor to global fuckering or whatever you wanna call it.

Dongo

Eddie seems like a sweetie

Logan

What?? The diet of someone in 1920 contained 3x more week per meat than now… you’re wrong

Steve D

Eddie is great. I loved when him and Dana Gould would chop it up but it’s been years since he’s been on his show.

Joe Quigley

Respect for the comment. More respect for your user name. Not all heroes wear capes.

Dick Must Bust

Will watches Pay It Forward every time he looks in the mirror

Adub

I couldn’t imagine enduring a whole concert of his music

Mark Schneider

Bill was so brilliant, his JFK shooting and "It's just a ride" and his I'll smoke coz I'm gonna die anyway bits are classics that immediately come to mind. Raised by a fascist dad (me too) rebelled and never sold out, never weakened his rage with fake acceptance.

Jeremy Logan

Wrf was a great show at one point. He interviewed much more interesting people. When It was mostly authors and comedians it was brilliant. Then it started being mostly actors who are usually very uninteresting.

jumbo

so glad the discussion on veganism wasn’t the usual garbage getting pumped out. cool to hear Eddie talk about how far things have come in the last 20-30 years. getting flashbacks to being a corn fed middle schooler in Kansas City, getting on the wiki page for Rise Against trying to figure out what vegetarianism is and how the fuck that is supposed to work lol

Kyle O’Connor

don’t have time to look up a citation at the moment but i think it does actually. methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 so even if the amount is not as big its impact is greater iirc

Kvvvy

Eddie repeatedly misnaming "scenes from an Italian restaurant" was making my eye twitch lmao

Christian Bendillo

I’m waiting out the lab grown meat thing because it hasn’t been long enough for me to know whether or not it’s just gonna give everyone cancer like so many of the “innovations” that they come up with.

Mark Ambrose

Love this except Will's egregious Movie Mindset failure by not asking Eddie about his role as "suicidal junkie" in the nightmarish horror classic Combat Shock.

Hemlock

Jimminy Glick is the best, every interaction with famous people is hilarious!!

S.E. Nyarady

Loved Peppitone on adult swim's Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell if anyone's seen that

Andrew

Billy Joel just doesn’t like that his statutory rape songs have been reappraised by libs

Dick Waglin

Durham is pronounced "Durm"

D. Elwood

Hell yea, love Eddie, Puddin' was very formative for me lol

T33ny

That hack

K H

You could give this dude a mic spot if your pension plan wasn't so generous. Then we wouldn't have to hear from Adam again.

auf die Welle

How the hell had I never heard of Eddie Pepitone. This cave dwelling isn't all it's cracked up to be.

bruce

hoooah!

bruce

double feature with hillbilly elegy

bruce

he wanted to pull it out a little too much but it is a really funny concept. the curtain goes up behind bob barker and it’s a bunch of guys shooting each other and screaming and bombs going off

bruce

it’s actually not so good for a growing portion of the earths biomass to be animals we have for luxurious food half the world can’t access

Ian Priest

Wasn't arguing that it is, just that comparing the scale of emissions generated by the two is a vast minimisation of the impact of Fossil fuels

Eli

It was impossible for this man to live up to tom meyers but he did a good job trying

the dumpist

Now we know the truth: Nick Mullen found out Dylan also did an ad for IBM and couldn’t handle it

Ron Jones

I was such a huge Puddin' fan back in the day

FeloniousUnc

Great interview. Eddie seems like a genuinely sweet and awesome fella. Sad to hear Will doesn’t like Radiohead though. I hated them for a long time, but they really grew on me, and now they’re one of my favorite bands.

Boaz Corey

Goin' Blind by KISS is another great age-gap rock song (also covered by Melvins). "Little lady can't you see? - You're so young and so much different than I - I'm 93, you're 16 - and I think I'm going blind"

Heather L.

I loved the Puddin’ strip stuff with Matt Oswalt & Eddie. Great episode- thank you!!

Alyssa

Bro, it's not the taste of lab-grown steak vs tortured cow steak, it's about the money the cattle farmers, meat processing facilities, biogas facilities, fertilizer companies, etc have tied up in the cattle, chicken, and pig farming industries. They're protecting their financial interests and they're parts of MASSSSSSIVE lobbies. And just like fossil fuel companies will continue to spend more and more money on fewer and fewer returns from shale fracking before they switch to solar, these meat people will pull out all the stops to keep people eating meat even though we all know, at least in a tiny, suppressed part of our minds, that eating meat is bad.
