In a semi-sequel to the classic movie ep on Patriot’s Day (CTH083), the gang takes a look at Peter Berg’s 2012 blockbuster Battleship. We imagine a world where board games rule cinema IP over superheroes, talk about disgracing WWII vets, and wonder if these are the weakest movie aliens of all time.

L.A.: Our live show is THIS SATURDAY, 10/8/22 at The Theater at the Ace Hotel. We are going to do a limited ticket giveaway on Patreon and on twitter this Wednesday (10/5/22). Details posted to Patreon imminently.

Bob Duvall

Rihanna can hoist my jib

Juji Gatame

I literally just watched Patriots Day ep yesterday on one if the Counter-revolutionarty scum YouTube channels that steal your content. Can't wait to hear the adventures of the USS Boston with Captain Dropkick Murphys. Unless.thos one isn't set in Boston

Declan Kennedy

Almost a full 90 minute episode while on tour, you lot are machines

Post Void

"It's a three pronged attack, subliminal, liminal and superliminal- I'll show ya. Hey you, join the Navy!"

hellsonly

If they had to do a movie based on a navy board game but wanted it to be humans versus aliens, then why not do torpedo run the movie? Basically swipe the premise from the Star Trek episode, Balance of Terror.

K H

They are all on pre workout. Yohimbe exploding their riffs and hearts

Of course

I cannot wait for the movie based on Connect Four.

John Harwood

Hasn’t Hollywood already done thousands of movies based on Axis & Allies?

Graham Saunders

It was called "The Human Centipede" It wasnt great.

justdave

I would like a Marx cinematic universe

William

Yeah, it's probably the most fleshed out cinematic universe. Saving private Ryan, band of brothers, Patton, the dirty dozen, inglorious bastards, and who could forget red tails

hogstrangle

when i was in the navy there were multiple instances of sailors falling overboard and getting lost at sea because the NWU blue camo blended in with the ocean, especially at night. so fucking dumb

Zac

I'm actually about to be a director, soon

J

Rihanna was in Valerian, a movie I find to be very underrated

Brian Hurley

Kate Upton? Sydney Sweeney erasure!

Clean Shirt Piggie

See Sarah Squirm in a McDonald’s costume doing snl sketch? Sad

Post Void

Wait a second, it the sailors are not supposed to be in the water, why is there camo water colored anyways?

hogstrangle

i think it was an aesthetics decision made to unify all the branches w a variant of digital camo that wasn’t made with any foresight to people falling in water at night time

Post Void

Fashion War Crimes

Graham Michaels

Lmao I was just watching this last night

Bob

Still waiting on Law Abiding Citizen

Daniel

Movie ep while on tour is a nice little treat. Also more felix explaining Entourage episodes to matt pls

Ian H

Abby Martin went to RIMPAC a few months ago, one of the more amusing details was that the mock village on Oahu where they played WarCrime Simulator had portraits of the Kim family in the huts.

Doug Cartel

The US Navy used to refer to electronic warfare as "the sea of beams" which is equally stupid and funny

C. Ries

Orange clad Coast Guard chads stay winning

Alexandr

Thanks for the absurdly over-boosted mic, Will. It's great to hear you fucking hitting distortion levels on my speakers constantly.

Alexandr

Alls I want is some goddamn slop why do you have to make it hurt

Robert Karnick

23:00 are Chapo not aware Sydney Sweeney exists?

Doug Cartel

hey wait, where does Fat Leonard fit into all this?

Aaron Christmas

You are still wrong about the Warcraft movie

etienne

the context of a Battleship game is when you're in a dungeon waiting for beheading and they don't even give you a bible for entertainment

Brad Hall

Felix’s pronunciation of “aliens” is truly dumbfounding.

Andy Chapman

We haven't seen it, but my wife's uncle Mac is one of the veterans in the film.

K H

So what the Chapo boys don't understand is, a hyper advanced space faring society has to excise the pathological idiots. Because keeping them around with common technology that could destroy a star is too dangerous. They give them a toy and send them out with their moron equivalent of the guys that would have done things different on 9/11. That's why the first thing they did was crash and then play a board game. Basically all the aliens are Steven Seagal.

Major bit me

Always date a high ranking military man’s daughter, it’s why my great grandfather never got deployed in WW2. Then he dumped her when the war ended and boom, I get to exist a few generations later

Thom

Confess Fletch is one of the year's best. "Jon Hamm can't carry a movie" my eye

kenton

if anyone ever pronounces "rather" like irl im going War Mode

Adrian

Dear god we need several chapo entourage episodes

The Etymology of Nonsense

When did they review Warcraft? Search feature on here is whack and I feel like I'm getting the wrong episodes when googling it

Movie Donkey

I worked on Patriot’s Day. One of the armorers was a woman who wear different color camp pants that would match her sneakers and she literally jumped for joy during the Watertown shootout scenes. Also at the wrap party Peter Berg hugged my wife immediately as we walked in the door and some time later jumped on the bar and gave a speech about how we didn’t make ‘some man-Man movie’. Pretty sure it was right around when Ant-Man came out. Dude has a way with words

Bobi Jon-son Kenobi

Felix caught lacking by reading Doonesbury and not the superior Bloom County/Outland/Opus as a child

Bobi Jon-son Kenobi

I believe the review of it is up on Acid Marxist’s YouTube channel

Julie Baxter

True story: my father sent Milton Bradley a mock-up of the game he designed in the early 60's, basically a grid on wooden blocks with pegs. It had been played using pieces of paper for years, but he came up that prototype. They fucking replied that it wasn't "commercially viable," then began mass producing it. He tried suing them but MB said they had an army of lawyers that would keep him in court for years.

Will

What was Will talking about re: Three body problem?

etienne

it's a series of excellent sci fi novels where space aliens find out about earth and decide to migrate to earth en masse to escape a borderline inhabitable homeworld. He was saying that the conceit of the movie is that earth sent beacon signals into space that got picked up by aggro aliens and that this is their core fuckup and they need to not be doing that.

CJ

When are we getting the Don’t Wake Daddy movie?

Will

Thanks

Valerie Maybe

Did they mention “Clue” the Movie?

skrrt vonnegut

Time to serve up some Lobster Thermonuclearwar

Dan

I did think that Doonesbury was for adults when I was a kid, but Bloom County was the comic strip that perplexed me the most and that I aspired to understand when I got older. Now that I am an adult, I have no idea who the fuck Doonesbury is for; it makes New Yorker cartoons look like Robert Crumb drawings.

AKorgar

Alien conquistadors basically

K H

Yea actually I think they referenced this idea before. Where you send all the pepe incels to an island in virtual reality where they do nothing but kill turtles and other rare animals. Like their forebears on Galapagos.

Paul F. Holzfäller

Berating some guy to join the army without ever having served yourself. My god I didn’t realize that Berg was so bitch made.

AbeLinkin

Or daddario, both featured in white lotus for the double whammy

greenboots

Battleship is genuinely one of my stepdad's all-time favorite movies and it's evidently the first time he ever saw Rihanna, so he only knows her as, "Oh it's the girl from Battleship!"

J

Great ep

etienne

ep 415 "consider the orc"

Shiv

Y’all aren’t lesbians bc Rihanna is ofc in Oceans 8

etienne

imo it is one of the all time wost chapo eps, and I say that as a big fan of Movie Mindset. but knock yourself out

Poppy Chulo

Wow, it's hard to imagine a worse movie pick. Maybe next you could do the seminal Adam Sandler classic "Pixels."

Talcum Gladwell

"It was a show you watched to calm down after 'The Sopranos.'" Goddamn those were the days.

Siddhartha

The Reign Over Me episode was an all time classic, so I am 100% in favor of this.

Seph

The aliens invading earth and replicating a board game could totally be a series that makes sense-that follow a Predator-like alien race that only fights its opponents on religiously-guided equal and honorable terms. They keep coming back to earth because we keep beating them.

Hank

Shut up pussy

Poppy Chulo

I don't think I will henry.

B2B Commuter

Sydney Sweeney, while a blonde with jumbo yum yums, is famous for acting. The blondes Matt brought up (Anna Nicole smith, Brooklyn Decker and Kate upton) were famous for being centerfolds in places like the SI swimsuit issue, maxim or playboy, and then trying (and mostly failing) to break into other things. Magazines are completely dead at this point so instead of having a few women to fill this roll from there we have dozens of women from social media as influencers. Matt is 100 percent correct to identify kate upton as the transition figure because while being in the traditional, if dying, mediums of time she drew a ton of fame for going viral doing the cat daddy with Terry Richardson (least surprising me too of all time?) and the dougie at a clippers game.

etienne

chris is Good

Aaron Baer

I think you're a queer childish small ...

H G

thin episode

Sam

Bob Saget was a huge creep in entourage and was probably the coolest person in real life that appeared on that show.

Scott Grabel

For some cathartic Peter Berg hate, see “Smokin’ Aces”, where him and Ben Affleck get mowed down in a drive by in Lake Tahoe by Neo-Nazi assassins, one of whom is Chris Pine.

David Cox

Guy Debord made "Game of War" and that was based on Waterloo, and May 68! - 'theme' based entertainment from the left!!

blackFFillip

really? I thought that ep was great and I think they’re all weak now

blackFFillip

really want those umms and uhhs to come through

Scot Forsythe

We’ve got movie sign! Ahgghhwagghh!!

fratthew

Resident Clue Enjoyer reporting for duty. That movie kicks ass

Poppy Chulo

Hey bud, how's the knob slobbering going?

James Barron

I just finished reading the three-body problem series so it was cool to hear Will mention it. It was a really great series of books

Scott

Japan are good at soccer, actually

James Barron

Lucky you! The whole series just gets more and more batshit. I thought the second one started a bit slower but well worth sticking with.

Wilson A. Edens

Any episode where we get multiple chances to hear Felix say "alien" is a treasure.

Valerie

this is the ASMR experience I am subbed for

Alexandr

(Patreon) Episode 415, 4/30/2020, Consider The Orc

J.P. McD.

Take this juvenile “I want my podcasts to only review Good Important movies” attitude over to Michael & Us where the patrons mostly vote for “classics” and the show suffers for it

blackFFillip

if you like episodes where Felix says “aliens,” this is your Ozymandias

Andy West

Yeah, it's the most popular sport after baseball. Saying the Japanese don't care about soccer is like saying Americans don't like basketball.

Ben Dreith

Took me 52 minutes before I realized that I too have seen this movie

Winterborn

Could have done without the third ones weird 'men become feminized and weak in times of plenty' stuff but they're all worthwhile.

Paul Dygert

It's actually called a hurt box, Matt

Meatwad Cosby

Law Abiding Citizen. People are talking about it more and more.

W

If we had 1 billion Americans we could wash the aliens easy

Isaac

"Alli-ans"

PJ Martinez

Famously nice guy Harvey Weinstein played a complete asshole version of himself on Entourage too.

Jon Lyons

The thing is you *could* make a potentially decent "Battleship" movie: Set it in a kind of '30s-inspired alternate world focusing on 2 groups of sailors on opposite sides of a conflict and have it focus on a naval battle at night and/or in the fog, where they have to guess where the enemy is.

David

You are boring and tiresome Felix
