Reference studies. (Patreon)

Time to expand visual library.
When studying references, I usually don’t use the “color picker” tool at the beginning, but first try to paint all the primary colors by eye, and then, to check, I use the color picker to check how correctly I was able to replicate the colors from the original.
Almost always, when I try to repeat an unfamiliar style, I then have to change the overall tone.
Quite often I choose skin tones that are too orange when the references might be pale red or even pale crimson.
But when you understand what colors the original author uses in what situations, you can try to repeat it again, but this time without looking at the reference.
It seems to me that in this way the brain will have to work harder to remember the image and the way you moved your hand and thought while you were studying.
And it may retain some techniques in memory better.
But these are just my guesses.
I'm sure you can find your own interesting teaching techniques too ^^
