American Kitsune Audiobook Kickstarter (Patreon)

Hello everyone!

It's been a long time since I've written a newsletter/update post for Patreon. I update so often that I just felt like it wasn't necessary and you probably get enough emails from me to last a lifetime.

But I have some news I would like to share with you all.

I have started a Kickstarter to hire Amber Lee Connors and other narrators for the American Kitsune volume 2 audiobook.

WHY A KICKSTARTER?

The last American Kitsune audiobook cost me roughly $4,000 and I paid for it all out of pocket. I broke even, but I did not manage to make a profit from the audiobook. This audiobook is going to cost $6,776 to produce - much more expensive than my previous audiobook. Not only do I NOT expect to make back what it cost to publish, but I do not even expect to break even. I am mostly likely going to lose money producing this audiobook.

Producing an audiobook without turning a profit is not something an independant author like myself can do. I don't have $6,776 to fork over to begin with, so spending that much on a project that won't earn that money back would be considered a waste of time. I also can't pay for it with the money I make from Patreon because all that money is already going into artwork and the American Kitsune webcomic.

But I still want to make this audiobook.

Not only do I have some fans who really enjoyed volume 1, but American Kitsune is near and dear to me. It was the first original story I ever wrote. I was just starting my career with this, and I wasn't very good. The writing is not up to par with some of my other works, but it's a story that is indicative of my growth as an author. It's very special to me.

Since I cannot pay for it on my own, I am seeking help from people who are willing to lend me a hand. A Kickstarter just seemed the most logical way to get enough money to produce this.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE KICKSTARTER FAILS?

If the KIckstarter fails, the audiobook won't get produced. It is unfortunate, but I lack the funds to pay for this, so American Kitsune volume 2 the audiobook will likely never see the light of day should the Kickstarter fall through.

WHO WILL NARRATE THE AUDIOBOOKS?

The cast for this project is the lovely Amber Lee Connors, who has worked in the anime industry for many years. You might recognize her voice if you watch dubs. She has worked on more than 400 anime and video games since she began voice acting in 2007, including some of the biggest anime like Attack on Titan, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, Demon Slayer, Mushoku Tensei, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, and so many more. She is the narrator for this fourth-wall breaking narrative of Gintama proportions.

Aiding her will be Bryn Aprill and Christian Young. I originally hired Josh Grelle and Tia Ballard, but they decided not to reprise their roles so I needed to hire new voices.

Bryn Aprill is another anime voice actor. She's been doing voice acting work for many years. You may know her as Haruna from To Love Ru, but she has also played roles in Haganai, Space Dandy, Black Butler, Yona of the Dawn, High School DxD, Noragami, Overlord, Kaguya-Sama, and much more. She plays the female voices in my story, including the voice for Lilian -  our female protagonist.

Christian Young has worked for Rooster Teeth. You'll know him if you watch RWBY or Red VS Blue.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THIS PROJECT

The most obvious way to support this project is with money. That is ultimately what I need since I have to pay the narrators for their work. However, if you do not have the fuds to support it, you can always support it by spreading knowledge of it to your friends, family, and social media connections. Share links on your social media pages, talk to your friends about it and ask if they can help, etc.

I can't do this alone either. I've learned that I'm just one man, and I'm not very good at social media'ing or advertising. I need your help. I hope I can rely on you for support.
