Jasper Fay

I was diagnosed with ADD and prescribed Ritalin at 9 years old, four years after Timmy 2000. Flatly refused to learn my times tables; would always be distracting the other kids in class; problems focusing. The diagnosis was more helpful in letting teachers know how to deal with me, than "the medicine" as we called it was in controlling my behavior, at least during childhood, so I stopped after a couple years. But my first year of high school when I started having to manage homework and study, I got represcribed and immediately scored perfect on the first geometry test I took using the medicine. Turns out I was a math wiz in hiding! Every test thereafter was fun and generally aced, but homework was still a great struggle, and in the end I had to figure out my own habits and take account/command of my focus. Ended up doing physics and philosophy in college, and I'm quite sure I never would have gotten through all that without the medicine which allowed me to study, time-manage, and focus when it counted, by setting my brain basically to work like a normal person. Thanks to my 4th grade teacher Steve who recommended I get checked out for it. I don't think Trey and Matt are wrong to caution against using a disorder like ADHD or "anxiety" as in Buddha Box S22E8 (got that right from memory lol) as a catch-all for everybody's problems, but although there is some truly annoying and unhelpful overdiagnosis, such disorders are real, those kids need help, and for some medication can be the thing. Also they seem to be depicting the effects of antidepressants and antipsychotics, which tend to flatten a person, rather than ritalin or adderall, which are stimulants. I mean, ~poetically~ it's fine; drugs take the soul out, like in Brave New World. Cartman being the one to suffer the rare side effect of seeing little Christina Aguilera monsters is hilarious.
