Ah, it's the old format that we know and love. Keep us laughing, having a great time, nothing to see here, a bit of fun.

HA!

HA!

And then, it all goes kablooie. This show is why I will develop trust issues.

Gosh, this one was just so funny though. Editing this was such a treat for me. I spent a good while laughing out loud at many of the scenes!

Have a wonderful weekend 💜

this episode is one of my favorites. and I think they needed to follow up last weeks episode with something strong and they did. it was funny and also interesting to see what they did without all the baggage of everything. of course, it was sad in the end. I'm with tara all the way though.

Lime Pie

There's a fun connection between this episode and Xander's dream in "Restless". First of all, Spike was wearing a suit just like the one he wears in this episode. Second, Giles says "Spike is like a son to me" and he calls Spike his son in this episode too. Third, Buffy mentions a shark to which Xander adds on "Like a shark with feet" and this episode features a shark with feet.

The mix of the laughter and the pain, why do I like it so much? Also this episode introduced me to the song Goodbye To You. That's normally not my style of music but now it's one of my favorite songs.

xjuliettex

Yes!! I mentioned the suit haha! It was so cool to see it again!

xjuliettex

Agree with you, Ashley! Tara is just a beautiful person. She is everything I'd love to be. I really loved this episode.

xjuliettex

It was SUCH a rough ending - I don't even think I was ready for it. Just so funny throughout and then it hits us like that? That's not fair 😭😭

Dusty

Good memory. I do believe that is the same outfit Spike is wearing when he's on the swings with Giles, trying to swing higher to make him proud!

xjuliettex

Making father proud 😅 Randy Giles! Honestly, this is one of my favourite funnier episodes. I just loved editing this one. I was laughing throughout most of it! It certainly made the editing hours so much better hahahaa

Pop Culture Reference When everyone woke up confused in The Magic Box, Anya said that she didn't see Allen Funt anywhere. That is a reference to the original host of a TV show from the 1950's and 60's - 'Candid Camera'. The show would set up pranks in public and secretely film people's reactions. At some point, Allen Funt would come out and say, "Smile, you're on Candid Camera." The show went on until 2014 in various forms with different hosts.

Buffy and Spike seem to want very different things from each other. She pushes him away, but then wants to get physical with him. We all know that Spike is in love, but what is with Buffy? In two songs, Buffy sang that she is dead inside. "Nothing seems to penetrate my heart" and "Why can't I feel? My skin should crack and peel, I want the fire back!". Maybe Spike is just a substitute for actual feelings.

You can see how Buffy's face drops when her memories come flooding back. So sad. Buffy seems to be feeling like a martyr with her choice of Joan as her name. I feel like a Joan. Buffy likes to be the insigater. In OMWF Buffy followed Spike into the alley. Buffy turned away from Spike when he came to her but went after him once he walked away.

I do enjoy this episode a lot (the middle parts anyway!). To be honest, I never liked Giles’ reason for leaving right now and I wish they had just had him say that he misses home or he needs to go back - I think Buffy would have felt a lot better about that. In Season 5, Giles was going to leave because Buffy didn’t need him anymore. Now it’s because she needs him too much. Well, yah she does right now! Her mom died, her dad is MIA, she HERSELF died and then was pulled out of heaven and came back to depression and being broke and responsible for taking care of a teenager AND saving the world. We can’t give her some slack? It’s only been a few months since she came back! I just feel so bad for Buffy here.

the loan shark is so funny to me. i do say time turns kittens into cats sometimes. that stuck with me.

Ashley Thomas

i wonder if spike felt anything getting all his memories back. of being human, of being turned, of all the things he did, of dru and then falling for buffy, buffys death, etc. i know he doesn't have a soul but still that's a lot to take in. i think he handled himself well.

Buffy and Spike's lyrics at the end of the musical just before they kiss do reveal a bit about their respective mindsets going into the kiss. Spike: "I've died, so many years ago. But you can make me feel..." Buffy: "This isn't real, but I just want to feel..."

I'm not sure if someone else has mentioned it, but by using that forget spell in episode 6 Willow removed Tara's ability to give informed consent, which means their OMWF scene in the bedroom (where it's heavily implied they're having sex) is an act of sexual assault. At this point I think it's fair to say that Willow is showing signs of addiction when it comes to magic. As difficult as it was to see Tara packing her things and leaving, she gave Willow a clear boundary and Willow decided to violate that boundary. Both of Tara and Willow's scenes (the beginning scene, and ending) are something I could really relate to when I first saw this episode. I was addicted to heroin in the 90s, Buffy season 6 was the first season of Buffy I watched when I was starting to really get clean. During my addiction one of my closest friends offered me their help and support, but also set a very clear boundary for me. I promptly violated that boundary and ended up losing their friendship for several years (until I got clean). I couldn't see it at the time, but they did the right thing. Same as Tara is doing the right thing with Willow, and also the right thing for herself in terms of not accepting being manipulated, lied to, and essentially walked over (also see above re assault). She deserves better than that, let's just hope Willow realises that as well and comes to her senses.

It's not the exact same outfit. In Restless, Spike is wearing a tie. In Tabula Rasa, he's wearing a bow tie. The outfit colors are the same though, and even with the tie difference, I definitely still consider it a throwback to Restless. Especially with Spike and Giles being like father and son. lol

xjuliettex

Claire, thank you for sharing your story. I can't imagine how hard that would have been for you to go through that, and I'm so glad that you made it through the other side 💜

xjuliettex

OH! I used to watch Candid Camera in the 90s I think!
