This is a show that starts out not very good but gets better each season.

first episode is not good in my opinion. I started love it after episode 4! And in next seasons is better quality and special effects

This show is a bit cringey in terms of acting and quality like editing and action. But it does get better and has really interesting things going on. It’s one of those entertaining shows for sure :)

Love Shadowhunters but echo everyone else’s sentiments that the first few episodes can get kind of cringey especially with the acting. But the show does pick up and it’s a really great show!

Though, this show doesn’t always reach the bar and can be cringe, but the potential alone is actually really compelling and part of what makes to worth watching. And there are definitely cool parts since they have a lot of content/elements to play around with.

Yep, I agree with what everyone has said so far. Initially I couldn't watch the show because of the terrible acting in the beginning. Isabel seems especially bad to me. However, it DOES get better with time and becomes a really great show. It's a shame because I think those growing pains really hurt the show's audience retention. Anyway, the fact that they were able to put this world on film is nothing short of incredible. You'll see more of what I'm talking about as time goes on. Also...know that it is based on a book series called the mortal instruments.

It's been awhile since I watched this pilot episode but so thankful that you're reacting to this! I think the show does have a few misses, but what intrigued me about this first episode is the relationships that were established and started to form, as well as the characterizations. And yes, Magnus is Harry Shum, Jr. who played Mike on Glee!

I'm so happy and excited that your watch this. Yes the special effects and some of the acting isn't the best but thats only the 1st season it all gets better as we go on. I can't believe one of you guys are finally watching this.💜🤗🥳

Izzy and Clary both make me cringe so bad in the first few episodes lol. But I think eventually the actresses got into character more - although I will say I’ve never liked clary as a character lol

Just wanted to say that this show is based of a book series called Mortal Instruments and yes there is a movie adaptation of it too, tho the movie is miles more accurate than the show who goes of the rail like 4 episodes in.

Glad your reacting to this and not your brothers. I was worried because I don't think either of them could get past some of the cringe and bad acting that happens (especially in the first season).

Boy this show is really bad. Not Home Boys from Outer Space awful but its not loads better. The one saving grace (thank god), is the production overall seriously improves in its 2nd season. It's not that good, but it's so much better. The acting is more nuanced, the dialogue is significantly better (though still shaky at times), the directing and cinematography improve, and the show does try and tell deeper stories. If you like the subject matter and melodrama and are willing to swim through the middens to get to clear waters, give it a shot.

Ah, Shadowhunters. I figured this show would get done. I was super excited when it first started aired, being a TMI fan, but I dropped it halfway S2, cause I really just couldn't watch it anymore. They change directors after S1 and those made it so much worse. To me, you either love it, or you hate. And I really, really tried to love it, because of the source material. Failed hard at it in the end. But try the movie as well. 'City of Bones'. It's actually pretty good, (I hated it when it first came out though, but the show made me appreciate the movie in a whole new light).

If you love the books, take it from someone that does too, but you probably won't like the show. Most people that love the books ended up disliking the show. Even Cassandra Clare didn't like the show. The book fandom and the show fandoms can get pretty ugly against each other on social media for a good reason.

Brian...make your own opinions on the show.....they did get 7 nominations on The Peoples Choice awards and won 5 of them.....and 4 wins were AFTER they were off the air....this fandom can be......different.....so try to keep your own thoughts and not be influenced by others.
