When Melissa and Sheriff Stilinski were talking about the kids being a genetic chimera it was because they had transplants from other humans such as the skin graph and cornea transplant and the something for hadden who had a Kidney transplant. Since they all have two separate sets of DNA of the human kind that is why the Dread Doctors choose them for their experiment.
