Yay!! First installment that restored my lost faith in the MCU. That opening scene of Yelena was filmed in Kuala Lumpur, where my dad was born and raised I love that Yelena immediately knew it was her dad the moment she saw the limo in the distance and became a mortified teenager embarrassed by him lol I wanna believe that Alexei was once a cold, deadly, fearsome Red Guardian, then his experience with his family turned him into the biggest goofball, with (as it turns out later) the biggest heart. I like Ghost a LOT more in this film than Ant Man 2 lol Wait, you haven't seen Captain America 4? It's not bad honestly. Not great, a lil plain, but honestly a LOT better than people give it credit for. This team had such a natural family dynamic and chemistry that was way better than that of the OG Avengers. Also the fact that they beat an unstoppable enemy with the power of friendship and it actually makes perfect sense instead of being some forced crap "I think it'd be nice to know that you didn't really know any better." even though he's a jerk, Walker has a considerable sense of self awareness. "Define innocent" is honestly valid, because the guy Walker took out helped bomb innocent people so that guy was pretty much the definition of a terrorist. Killing him might have been a slight overreaction, but validated, considering that guy and Karli caused the death of his best friend. He was a good, loyal soldier, filled with PTSD and regret, and the government slapped him with a role he couldn't handle and the pressure he couldn't take, and after he'd dedicated everything in his life to them, they chucked him without a second thought. Even if he's an asshole, he's a layered character with depth and wanted to do right and make the right call in the end. He did NOT deserve how things went down for him in Falcon and Winter Soldier. Even with his arrogance when we first meet him, Sam and Bucky did NOT treat him decently. They could've guided him to be a Captain they respect and given him even the slightest smidge of support, for filling a role he was told to fill, instead of pushing further off the edge. Is he a jerk and a bully? Hell yeah. But he didn't choose the circumtances that made him like that (even if it doesn't justify his actions at times), and is a LOT more layered than he ever gets credit for. He's one of the most overhated characters (even tho I also was part of said overhate initially) in the MCU fandom and I will die on that hill. Interesting that Melina isn't mentioned once. Wonder what happened to her. Or Bill Foster. Since he promised to stay with her Valentina was basically a ragebait character for me the whole time and if they wanted to make her more enjoyable they should've written her more like Olivia Colman's character from Secret Invasion. "I did the dishes tho" I love him 😭 Walker had a noticeably soft spot for Alexei, which I figured was because by showing his love for Yelena, despite his flaws, he proved himself to be the father and family man Walker knows he himself should've tried harder to be, so he admires Alexei for that. I think Sam doesn't like the New Avengers because he, like Steve, believes that the Avengers shouldn't be government controlled. Although technically they have leverage over Val so if anyone's really in control it's them. Anyway, aside from all that, they got the name first (since the Avengers disbanded post endgame), so by the rules of dibs, they get to keep it. And they DID save the world from horrifying depression oblivion so they kinda deserve it too. There was a hug scene between Yelena and Alexei as seen in the trailer and I'm so MAD it got cut David Harbour is an amazing actor. If you ever decide to give Creature Commandos a shot (DCU's first chapter set before Superman) his VA work for Frankenstein's monster is awesome. You remember Congressman Gary from Superman? He was Perry, chief of the Daily Planet. Loved him in this film, his demeanor was so funny, like a teenager with pettiness at times lol Hope you're doing well today Joy 💕
