Someone pointed out before that Dreamstat is Louis' internal self, the one that can be cruel. Armand told Louis his story, knowing that Louis has this Dreamstat around. Then Louis had Dreamstat mock him after it. But I think the ending is most telling on how cruel Louis is becoming, more like Lestat and less like the old Louis. It wasn't just a power shift, it was Louis putting Armand "in his place". He has Armand acting as a servant to him now. Lestat hadn't even done that but Louis is from a family of slave owners, Lestat is not. I think Armand only cares about Claudia in terms of keeping Louis happy. Lestat while he was messed up and abusive, he still had those maker feelings so he could never completely hate her and even though she tried to kill him, she can never completely hate him. They can hate each other, most makers and fledglings fall into this except Armand who was raised as a slave, this is why he still talks about Marius with such love and devotion. And also why I think the way Louis starts to treat Armand here is so icky.
