Debbie saw all this happen to Brian when he was young, his evolution to the man he is. So she knew the signs when it started with Justin. Justin also has something Brian never did, a mother that actually cares about his wellbeing. The Michael and Ted scenes were just tedious. I'm not actually sure they knew what they wanted to do with Ted as a character until much later in the show. Everyone else they seemed to have sorted out by season two except one other character. Mel and Lindsay aren't the best couple but they aren't the worst so I just let it be. The only reason Mel wanted the wedding so bad in the first place was for Lindsay. As for Brian not freaking out when Mel showed up. Brian lives with Justin, if something happened to Gus or Lindsay, even if they were dead, Mel would be with them. It would be Justin, Michael or Debbie going to tell Brian. Mel actually goes to Brian a lot, it's not a uncommon thing, mostly it's to yell at him though. I like George. I know him and Emmett have such a huge age difference but he's sweet. And unlike with Brian and Justin, Emmett was a full grown adult, already in his 30s when this started.
