Probably my favourite episode. G.I. Robot is such a compelling robot character-- even though he's self aware and has the option to make his own decisions, he still chooses to do what he was made for because he enjoys it, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to hang out with his friends on the side. Notice that they treated him like a scrapped tool, up until the point where they wanted to charge him for doing what he was made to do, and THEN they gave him human rights. And then proceeded to let him gather dust in a cell for untold years. While his nazi-killing drive may have started off as his programming, it's theorised that his time with Easy Company made his sentence associate emotions and a sense of belonging with his purpose. He expresses hate for Nazis and joy in ending them because he absorbed Easy Company's grudges and mentality against Nazis, and it's what he associates with his friendship with them. Notice how his flashbacks to happy times in WWII aren't of killing Nazis, they're of downtime with his friends in Easy Company. Where he truly felt like he belonged to something. And he can never go back to that ever again. Hope you're doing well today Joy 💕
