Good lord given what we've seen from Clayface and Dr Phosphorus, what kinda beast is Batman to be able to fight villains like them on a regular basis lol Dr Phosphorus had riches and power beyond any ordinary man's dream. But he would've given it all up to have his family again. He can't. He knows he'll never get them back, and the grief and pain is too much for him to remain stable or sane for any considerable period of time. I love that the flashback ends right as we see Batman. The implication that the moment Batman shows up, you've already lost.

...you're saying the loss of a loved one wouldn't give you any kind of emotional blurriness? To have the empathy to think that maybe he wasn't stupid, rather the fact that he'd hadn't recovered from the trauma of grief? He didn't enjoy working with those people at all, but he thought that with the knowledge he had, and with the right funding, he could save people from the terrible fate that took his father. Also, it's Gotham. The criminal underground is more prominent than the law lol. If it didn't, Batman probably wouldn't exist
