Regarding what you said about Brennan randomly knowing certain things about pop culture, but not others, I think that's just another thing to add to her list of very obviously autistic traits. It ultimately just has to do with her having certain special interests and hyperfixations, while not having heard about other things that are considered very popular. Or even if she had heard about them, she didn't notice them or care about them enough to really remember, which is why she often says she doesn't know what someone's talking about when they bring things up. I know I can be the same way, where I get into a bubble of watching only certain shows and movies even though I've already seen them a bunch of times because I find them comforting or familiar to me. But then there are a lot of shows that are extremely popular that have been recommended to me over and over, and something in me just won't allow me to watch them, even if they might be good.
