The World Which Is, an introduction (Patreon)

The World Which Is, is an exploration of the world 30 or so years after the System set in. That is the core of the reason behind the writing of this story.

This is a first Draft. I’m a discovery writer. I’m character driven. And at its core, this is a personal project.

What this means is that the story will meander at times while ‘issues’ get resolved in my head. And that at other times, the characters will not cooperate with where I think the story should go.

To answer some questions that have been asked.

Is there an actual story here? Sort Of? As a discovery writer, I have a ‘sense’ of where the story might go, but not actual idea where it will end up or how it will get there. Dennis starts with a goal: become a guard for his town. It’s what he’s always wanted to be. Things get thrown in his path, and he needs to adapt his goals, in small and large ways.

Dennis isn’t a “hero of legend” he also isn’t “the chosen one”. He doesn’t even view himself as a hero at all. He’s just a sixteen year old who wants to help as best as he can.

My ‘core idea’ for the story is that Dennis gets a class he didn’t intend on taking, and that comes with pluses and minuses, and will throw his life in upside down, and he’d going to fight change as hard as he can.

Dennis doesn’t want to go on an adventure.

Are the characters stupid? No. But that doesn’t mean they won’t make stupid mistakes. Or that an outside viewer, with more information than them, or a different personality, won’t think they are acting in stupid ways.

And yes, I will screw up how they should act at times. That’s what second drafts are for.

So that’s it for an introduction to this story. I expect I forgot stuff, so if you have questions, feel free to ask them. I’m one of those rare writer who loves having his work questioned.
