Tonight's Livestream: Driving in the Rain (Patreon)
Content
So, this past weekend was (or should have been) the Belgian Grand Prix...
... except it pissed down rain all weekend, to the point that qualifying got red-flagged for a while on Saturday, and then the race couldn't go ahead on time on Sunday.
After interminable delays, they tried to get the race going, but after two laps they shut it down- just barely enough to give half-points in the championship- because the rain and the spray off the road made visibility zero and traction all but impossible to find.
A lot of fans, naturally, are furious and insist that, racetrack flooding or not, these delicate and expensive cars specifically designed for dry, smooth asphalt driving and absolutely nothing else ought to have gone out and driven the full race anyway. I don't agree, not when there were two wrecks- one on a low-speed reconnaissance lap on the way to the starting grid- before the race would even have begun.
But to demonstrate how dangerous it was, tonight's game stream will be me in F1 2021 driving the Belgian GP with the weather set as wet as I can make it- which won't be as wet as reality, but it'll be bad enough.
7 PM Central if you want to hear me cussing a lot.
