Streaming-ish Writing Thing...? (Patreon)

So, I took a couple days to look into Livestream or other things, and the fact is this: it would cost me about $200 a month more to do it. $100/mth for Livestream and its proprietorial software, and $100 more on my Internet to get a broad enough connection to sustain live outgoing video. (I just upgraded to 3 mBps down / 1 mBps up DSL for over $50/mth.  Getting more than 1 mBps up basically costs $100 more, and may not even be possible. Where I live DSL is the only option.)

So, for those of you who are interested, I'm going to experiment with writing live on IRC (the old-old-old text-only Internet Chat Relay- yes, it's still around).

From today until next Wednesday (12-1 through 12-7), beginning at 7 PM Central time, I will be in a chat room, writing live in-channel and then copying to my WIP file. That's as close as I can get to livestreaming a writing session just now.

How you can participate:

(1) Get an IRC client/app. (I use mIRC, downloadable at www.mirc.com, which has a 30-day free trial window but thereafter becomes nagware and, eventually, blocks. Look around.)

(2) Connect to irc.efnet.org, port 6667.

(3) Once you are connected, type the following and hit enter:

/join #KrisWriting

That should get you into the channel.

For tonight it'll be Changeling Space Program, since I want to get the next chapter of that out as soon as I can. For future nights I'll take suggestions from people who show up promptly at 7 PM.

I can't make this totally private, but I'm only telling you Patreons, because hey- you're actually giving me money to encourage me to do things like this.

Now how about some of you show up and encourage me to get moving on my projects?
