SaintPete
Well, with the malign forces purged, and the faiths settling, I believe that the fracture is almost complete.
Iochaeira
That is good news, indeed. How long do you think it will take for the process to be finished?
Prophet
Our best estimate is December. Probably close to the new year. The three gods should ‘wake up’ then.
Trickster
Just in time for SaintPete’s Christmas? Ironic.
SaintPete
I had no control over that. Besides, the holiday is almost completely commercial, these days.
HammerTime
Well, hopefully your Yuletide presents will be good this year.
ThunderGod
Any word on what Pleasurable Domination has been up to? I’ve heard rumblings about some of the broken dungeons being cleaned up, but haven’t been paying too much attention.
Pleasurable Domination
Yes, two broken dungeons near my presence in Florida have been successfully cleaned up. One was the goblin dungeon in Boca Raton, and the other the zombie dungeon in Orlando. Both have been cleared out, and the areas are… well, not safe, but safe-ish for people to return to.
Queen Hera
Safe-ish?
Pleasurable Domination
Well, what buildings are in the areas haven’t been maintained for years, all while being battered by regular storms and weather. There’s no power in the area, and you’ll have to check everything for broken water mains, and we won’t even talk about the sewer systems. Plus, without city wards being up, or the broken dungeon’s influence, monsters will begin spawning there again. So, even though the dungeons are gone, it will still be some time, possibly years, before the area is actually ‘safe’.
Trickster
How involved were you with those efforts?
Pleasurable Domination
I helped advise the American military with the Boca Raton operation, but let them take the lead, since it was good experience for them. The Orlando job was conducted by slimes that I dumped into the zone, and then cleaned up with my young dragon. She’s been growing nicely, but needed more ‘real-world’ combat experience.
SaintPete
I heard about the Orlando thing, actually. An undead walked into one of the churches in Puerto Rico, and gave confession. Apparently, she had been trapped in Orlando since the Activation.
Pleasurable Domination
Ah, yes. She was turned into a Greater Lich by the System when it turned on, so she did not choose to be undead. However, she helped a group of humans survive inside the broken dungeon for five years, against all odds. Impressive story, I must say. I honored the survivors by giving them a small blessing, which made them immune to three damage types while in broken dungeons. Each of them got a different set of immunities. The blessing won’t help them outside of broken dungeons, but it was the best I could do within my portfolio’s limits, since they weren’t followers of mine.
Venus
That sounds like more then just a simple reward for staying alive, Dom.
Pleasurable Domination
Naturally. While they definitely deserve the reward, I am hoping that they’ll use the blessing in the future to help scout out and close broken dungeons. Before the cleanup in Boca Raton and Orlando, there were thirty-nine broken dungeons on Earth. The Vurlock dungeon off the coast of Miami and the Uranium Slime Lord dungeon at Area 51 in Nevada are likely beyond anyone’s ability to clean up, until they are much higher level, but there are others, which could be managed, with the right groups.
Truth
Thirty-nine? So many, really? Where are the remaining ones located?
Pleasurable Domination
Seven remain in North America.
Miami, FL – Vurlocks (Offshore)
Monongahela National Forest, WV - Fey
Isle Royale National Park, MI – Frost Nymphs
Denver, CO – Mountain Trolls
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – Yeti
Area 51 – Uranium Slime Lords
Cabo San Lucas – Succubi/Incubi
Queen Hera
Husband, if I hear about you manifesting in Cabo San Lucas, we shall have words.
ThunderGod
I didn’t even say anything!
Queen Hera
So you weren’t planning to explore the broken dungeon?
ThunderGod
Well, I didn’t say that.
Queen Hera
Exactly.
Pleasurable Domination
There are four broken dungeons in South America.
Parque Nacional Natural Río Puré, Columbia – Serpents
Machu Picchu, Peru – Flesh Golems
Grand-Santi, French Guiana – Wraiths
San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina – Vampires
Trickster
Well, now that’s getting interesting. Flesh golems in the old Incan city?
Pleasurable Domination
They look and mostly act like people, but aren’t, not really. They’ve been rebuilding the ‘lost city’, and killing anyone who gets too close.
Destroyer
That could be very useful, or very bad, depending.
Pleasurable Domination
There are seven broken dungeons in Europe.
Isle of Man, United Kingdom – Undead
Tuam, Ireland – Fey
Palermo, Sicily – Human Bandits
Chornobyl, Ukraine – Radiation Elementals
Poenari Castle, Romania – Vampires
Gibraltar, United Kingdom – Wyverns
Belgrade, Serbia – Skeletons
Coyote
Fey in Ireland? Really?
Pleasurable Domination
Yes. And they are Irish folklore fey, which is just as bad as it sounds.
SaintPete
Why does Poenari Castle in Romania sound familiar?
HammerTime
Because a prince by the name of Vlad Dracul lived there.
SaintPete
Wait, and it got overrun by vampires? Really?
Truth
Translation, for those of us who are less European?
SaintPete
Vlad Dracul, also called Vlad the Impaler, is the basis for the character Count Dracula, and thus over 98% of what modern people think of when they think of vampires. And Poenari Castle in what used to be Transyvania was one of his strongholds.
Trickster
Bad luck on the Ukrainians getting radiation elementals. But considering the site’s history, that makes sense.
Hearth Keeper
Just how big are these Wyverns in Gibraltar?
Trickster
You looking to get a pet?
Hearth Keeper
Not for myself, but some of my followers have the Valkyrie class, and are looking for suitable mounts or companions. Valkyries flying into battle on wyvern mounts would definitely make people wake up and listen.
Pleasurable Domination
Africa has five broken dungeons.
Abydos, Egypt – Mummies
Bordj Omar Driss, Algeria – Sand Elementals
Tamale, Ghana – Ghouls
Fagal, Djibouti – Rusttooth Blacktip Sharks (Offshore)
Kisagani, Democratic Republic of the Congo – Stalker Panthers
Prophet
I’ve heard about the one in Djibouti. The Rusttooth sharks are a variant of natural creatures that live in the area, and they feed on metal. It has basically closed the Bab al-Mandab Strait to all sea traffic except for wooden boats. That is a problem, since it has effectively closed the Suez Canal and means goods traveling from Europe to anywhere in the Indian Ocean have to either go overland, or travel around all of Africa.
LivingDead
It is somewhat galling to have one of the centers of my worship of old being overrun by the undead, considering that I am a god of the dead, and the afterlife.
Prophet
At least it is mummies, and not one of the other types of undead. The ghouls in Ghana have been eating any living being they catch, and they don’t always check to see if they’re dead, first.
Pleasurable Domination
Those are feral ghouls. They are driven by hunger, and, with how many of them there are, it is only because they are easier to kill than mummies that the country hasn’t been overrun.
Coyote
Hmm. I can see why you’ve started helping the mortals clean up these broken dungeons. This is starting to get concerning.
Pleasurable Domination
It gets worse. There are fifteen broken dungeons in Asia.
Susanoo
Fifteen! I did not know it was so many!
Pleasurable Domination
The largest continent should have the largest number of broken dungeons, no? They are as follows:
Jerusalem, Palestine – Dire Rats
Hamedan, Iran – Thunderbirds
Astana, Kazakhstan – Goblins
Chelyabinsk, Russia – Fey
Dudinka, Russia – Dire Bears
Mariana Trench, Pacific Ocean – Megalodons (Offshore)
Ili, China – Lesser Dragons
Kathmandu, Nepal – Yeti
Da Nang, Vietnam – Ogres
Taipei City, Taiwan – Plague Spirits
Philippine Sea, Pacific Ocean – Lesser Kraken (Offshore)
Mt. Fuji, Japan – Yuki-oh-na
Cheorwon-Gun, South Korea – Werewolves
Tokyo, Japan – Oni Bōsōzoku
Khatyrka, Russia – Dire Crabs (Offshore)
Susanoo
I’ve had drinks with the oni in Tokyo. They are not usually a problem, unless you are driving, or do not show them respect. They think picking on weaklings is boring.
OwlEyes
I am concerned about that broken dungeon in South Korea. The area is wooded, mountainous, and straddles the border with the North. Unleashing werewolves in that area seems like a recipe for bad things to happen.
Trickster
Eh. It will probably be fine. It isn’t like there still isn’t an official end to that war, or anything.
Prophet
The Plague Spirits in Taiwan have been responsible for more deaths on the island than any other source since the Initialization. The population is down to just one hundred thousand, down from 2.43 million, before the System. Granted, about 1.7 million of that difference is people fleeing the area, heading to mainland China, Japan, or elsewhere, but that still leaves over six hundred thousand deaths by the spirits. A big part of the problem is that people often don’t know they are sick until they’ve already left the area, and spread the disease to anyone around.
OwlEyes
That was mostly in the first few months. Plague deaths on the island are down to only one thousand or so a month, but the government (what is left of it) is declaring that a victory, especially as the plagues evolved to be resistant to healing magic. The brutal quarantine measures have put a halt to the spread of disease, at least.
Murphy
When did the Dire Rats start overrunning Jerusalem?
Patriarch
The dungeon broke during the fight between Son Wukong and the dragon after the Divine Trial. No one realized it until later. Fortunately, adventurers have been using the rats as reliable experience, allowing them to advance quickly.
Prophet
They’ve also been farming the rats for meat. While the meat is not particularly tasty, with all the chaos that has been going on in the region, it is a steady source of protein for people who might not have access to better sources. We’ve told our religious leaders in the region that no shame should be cast upon those who eat the meat, since they cannot serve god’s will if they are dead.
SaintPete
Though there have been a LOT of people commenting about the timing. We’ve had to stomp on that a bit.
SaintPete
The Dire Crabs, on the other hand, have been a huge boon for the seafood industry. Once properly-sized (and reinforced!) traps were made, Dire Crab meat became a high-end ingredient all over. Apparently, it is like regular crab, but is more flavorful, and conveys a CON buff on anyone who eats a dish with it.
Iochaeira
What of these Lesser Krakens? Do they make for good hunting?
Pleasurable Domination
Not especially. The meat is nutritious enough, and can be cooked like normal squid can. The problem is that, like the Megalodons from the Mariana Trench dungeon, they typically roam too far underwater for them to be easy hunting for mortals. Even most aquatic races would be in trouble at those depths. Don’t send any of your followers after them unless you’re trying to get rid of them, or they are both an aquatic species, and insanely high level.
Iochaeira
That bad?
Pleasurable Domination
Well, a goddess in avatar form could probably hunt them, but you would not be able to push the things back and cleanse the dungeon.
Pleasurable Domination
Moving on, there are five broken dungeons in Australia.
Mount Isa City, Queensland – Dire Giant Spiders
Alice Springs, Northern Territory – Dire Snakes
Salem Bay, Tasmania – Dire Elephant Seals
Patjar, Western Australia – Dire Emus
Meekatharra, Western Australia – Venomous Spiderkin Dire Emus
Murphy
Please tell me that last one is made up.
Pleasurable Domination
Sadly, no. I really, really wish it was. Somehow, that one got venomous snakes, spiders, and emus, and decided to Frankenstein them together.
Hearth Keeper
I am sending a divine message to my followers to avoid Australia altogether.
OwlEyes
Perhaps we should consider quarantining the continent?
Susanoo
Oof, that is a little much, even for me.
SportGod
That brings us to only thirty-eight broken dungeons. What about the last one?
Pleasurable Domination
The last one is in Antarctica.
McMurdo Station – Xenomorphs
Pleasurable Domination
I’m just telling you now, you do not want to go to that one. You do not want any of your followers to go to that one. You do not want your worst enemies to go to that one. You do not want anyone with a functioning transport anywhere within a hundred kilometers of that one. The dungeon spawned in an underground temple, that was apparently there before the System went offline when the dinosaurs bit it. Don’t ask me who it was built by or why. What matters is that the creatures in that dungeon will infest anyone who goes there with larvae, which then burst out of their chests to get born. And they start as Tier 3 creatures. The only reason that broken dungeon’s monsters haven’t overrun everything is because the creatures freeze if they are outside the dungeon for too long, and there aren’t enough people nearby for them to really boost their numbers. So, just DON’T!
Trickster
Normally, I find myself chafing against people telling me what to do, but in this case, I think I will accept that.
Murphy
Right, I’m cursing all expeditions to that part of Antarctica.
