They could be mistaken for regular elf spearmen, the way the skull is in the shade of the shield? Not that I mind more elf spearmen at all, but maybe they should be a bit more 'tattered' to really stress the undead factor? I like the cracked shield, but that could be any battle damaged elf.

Yeah, they look to hard like well armoured elves. At the tabletop distance, they will be elves. More bones, less armour please or turn them in non dead elves :-D

I think they will look great when painted up, I quite like the fact that they are not too ragged.
