“Because I like you and I want to know more about you,” [Oracle] blurts out.

Laz’s mind turns blank and quiet.

They should say something, react to this confession in some way, but their head is empty, and they have no idea how they should behave. Befuddled, they return their attention to their food.

Such simple words, but…

Laz knew it. That [Oracle] liked them—that there was more to it. They expected it. Maybe even craved it a little, though they don’t want to think about that. But hearing it like this, laid out so openly, said so sincerely, renders them speechless. Laz didn’t think they would feel like this. How wrong they were.
