Carven Doorway / Sealed Gate (Patreon)
Content
Hello! We've got a really fun one today, inspired by a patron request.
So I started with the idea to make a big setpiece doorway that can function like the Sealed Gate to the Esper Realm (FF6).
My mind also went to the legendary Doors of Durin from LOTR, and then my references took me down a rabbit hole of elaborately carved doors for gothic cathedrals, including memories of the door-to-purgatory from the 1999 version of The Haunting.
Could I have made one side and just mirrored it? Absolutely.
But could I stop myself once I got going? Absolutely not! 😝
The mystical motifs and the chakras are common symbols throughout the JRPG genre, so it seemed like a good fit to really lean into the idea.
There's a few different animations included in today's download sheet:
The three animations in the top row are intended to be an "unlock/unsealing" animation, and they're interchangeable depending on how you want it to look in your game, and then we have a straightforward 8-frame opening/closing animation which follows after.
The first set has 7 gems colored in the order of the chakras. The second one replaces the colors with regular stones, or maybe magical lodestones, in case the bright colors don't fit well for your game.
The third animation replaces the chakras/stones with golden seals that I used specifically because they match some previous releases (see below).
The frames are arranged to animate linearly as in the preview, but I made sure to set up the 'sockets' so that you could have a lot of flexibility if you want to edit them for a more specific use: for example, if the player needs to collect 7 gems and slot them in regardless of order, it'd probably be easy to splice the sheet and make a specific sprite or animation for each one.
Also we have two color variants: The wooden door that is in the preview above, and then I had the idea to make a black one to match with these previous "sealed magical artifact" releases:
Maybe these magical artifacts were left by the same ancient culture who vanished beyond the gate...
Lastly, I have a little tile add-on that's a simple background that will fit behind the doors if the transparency doesn't work right for your game: you can see that in the preview as well.
The door is 4 tiles wide and 5 tiles high.
I've exported versions for both full color (Elements) and for the classic Time Fantasy style.
Okay... that's a lot! Now here's the the Downloads:
Note: These are arranged in vertical strips of 8-frames, which is compatible as an RM-formatted 8charsheet, or can be used as a general tileset add-on. The colored blocks are to help with alignment.

I wanted to have a big one for you today because February is a shorter month than usual. I'm really happy with how it came out, and I hope that this can find its way into your game world.
So that's it for this week! I'll be back on Friday with the end-of-month, and we'll start next week with the newest request thread.
See you soon. Thanks for everything.
