Last week, I said that Friday's release was gonna be the last one of the month...

But I decided to drop one more! My plan was to do the end-of-month and the request threads for both of this week's posts... but without any release for the week, that felt like it'd be cheating! 😝

So I pulled these guys out of my backlog of to-do requests, and jammed them so we'd have one more release before the month is over.

These saddle-bugs are based on a long-standing patron request for rideable insects.

The idea is that you can put your characters on them like mounts, and they can cross different terrains; maybe they'll be useful to stride across poisonous swampy waters!

The designs are based on some old previous releases, remastered and updated for an expanded use. You might recognize a little bit of these old thorn beetles, which is where I got the idea for the structure of the "saddle", and the different insect heads come from the four-directional beetles (which were also a part of the Action-RPG Monsters series).

The leg motions here are all newly animated: the top set has shorter legs, so you can use them either for low-scuttling OR as "cut off", for example if you put them in water or tall grass. The bottom set has a full longer-legged "gallop" animation.

There's something cool (to me) about the overlapping designs here, like: you can imagine that all of these different creatures exist in the same world together, that there's variations in the species, or maybe these are domesticated forms of the wild beetles. Or maybe you can capture and tame them!

If you've been around for a while, you know that I'm always looking for ways to not just make more content, but to expand on what exists so that it can come to life in an interactive way for the games that we are making!

I think there's a lot of different ways that you ca use these guys. I hope that they will find a place in your game world!

The sheet has four designs here, one of which is a golden recolor that you can use as a "rare" or "elite" form. I've exported the sheet with the classic Time Fantasy colors as well as a full-color set, so they'll be easy to import into your game world.
