Hello!

So we've hit that 3K goal. That's a big one!

I can't thank you enough-- but I know that the thanks and love and appreciation can get tiresome: so I won't lay it on too thick. Just know that I'm appreciative and hugely proud of what we're accomplishing here. Not just because of the income-- but because this allows me to create a body of work that feels significant. I'm happy to provide content that helps people create.

So... onto the juicy stuff:

We need to figure out what the poll options are going to be for the goal reward!

-

First off:

Because of this patreon income, I don't need to rely on outside freelance work, and I can now focus on asset releases and commissions specifically for patrons. I'm in a position where my primary focus is now on asset packs and patron releases. I have a couple of ongoing projects, but for the most part I'm ready to devote this summer to the next big thing.

So--- what is that next big thing?

You know that I've had some big plans for a while now. My plans for this summer revolve around a massive new set, and it's something that I know a lot of people want. It's ambitious, and will be a lot of work, but I have confidence because of the support here from you...

A series of sprites with full four-directional combat animations:

layered with individual pieces so they could be used in a character generator.

Modular weapons.

Alongside a series of enemies that also have four-directional combat animations.

These sets would have new updated colors and style. They'd still use a 16x16 base, so they'd be compatible with the original Time Fantasy tiles, but with a different color palette the TF tiles would need some updating. The plan right now is to release future Time Fantasy tilesets with two color variations, one compatible with the old style and one that's designed to work with the stuff.

So-- the first option will be "focus on the big new character set". That might be a bit of a cheat for a 'goal reward' since I'm going to be doing it anyway, but this is something that people have been really asking me for, so it'll be an option.

-

I also owe you guys the Steampunk set, which is something that I'll be working on over the next month or two as well. I've started it with last year's train, and I'm excited to get into it having recently played Final Fantasy 6. I want to play Chrono Trigger soon too, that will get me in the right mood and give me some good ideas and inspiration.

I'll be working on the Steampunk tileset while coming up with some early style and design experiments for the new character style. Even though that's already been promised, "focus on the steampunk set" will be an option as well.

-

Another idea I have in mind is to continue and expand on this new forest set, which is in an updated and grittier style than the original TF forest (more inspired by FF6 and CT as I mentioned above). Right now, the set's pretty simple: it's just grass and a new treeline and canopy. There's potentially an option to expand that into a full tileset expansion.

-

Another idea is SV Battlers 2. I've mentioned this in the past. This side-view battler set would include SV battlers for the orcs from the Monsters expansion, and for characters from the Lich Crusades and Elves vs Dwarves pack, and probably a few others as well. As we begin to move into the sequel style for new character sprites, this might be a good option to flesh out the original TF series.

-

So those are my four options for now for the poll. Two of them are kinda cheating since they're upcoming projects anyway-- but they're projects that patrons have been asking for, so I think it's fair to provide an option to just focus on those. Still-- more ideas are absolutely welcome. I think that the classic 'inside a monster's belly' tileset is an option, right? Let me know if there's interest.

If you have other suggestions or ideas, let me know in this thread. Please share any thoughts and ideas- this wouldn't be possible without your input. I'll use the ideas discussed here to come up with a poll later this month.

------

Anyways-- I'll be back next time with this week's release: I'm planning on having this forest set ready for you- my plan is to finish it up tonight so I can post it tomorrow. See you soon.

Thanks!

Honestly all four of those sound like great options, but if you're going to be focusing on the modular tileset/characters then you should probably finish the default Time Fantasy stuff first...but, man, does that big new character set sound tempting...

Christopher R.

Would love to see the ‘inside a monsters belly, set and the steampunk set :)

finalbossblues

It will never be "finished"- as long as people keep using them I'm happy to keep making extras for it on the patreon. But there will be no more new character expansions in the old style (I think we've nearly exhausted it! There's hundreds of TF characters by now)

C#

Fair enough!

Yuri

Wow! This It's great! Especially full 4-directional sprite and part for generator. I will wait with impatience.

Stephan Liennard

I think either the SV Battler Pack 2 or a tileset (like forests or steampunk) would be awesome!

Jonathan Fox

as much as I love the variety of characters we have at this point, there is really no replacement from being able to create your own ideas in a character generator. This might be way too much work and far-fetched, but you said BIG ideas, so...:)

chrische5

I wanna See the four direction combat Charachters. And Sone ui would be awesome! Your work is realy cool.

Baz

man these are all options i want and need hahaha why must you make me choooooooose xD the four direction char generator set would be huge!

Scott

My biggest request would be multi direction battlers for Time Fantasy. Bonus points for modular weapons. I've always wanted to be able to create a full Time Fantasy action adventure game but not having multi-direction battlers has held me back.

steven

My o my that modular set for characters sounds juicy!!! I love love love your work

VillainouSoup

I can't believe this is happening so soon I'm definitely on the sv battler 2 wagon. Congrats on 3K!

Cyle Ven Dawson

The four-directional combat characters and enemies would be fantastic! That would be a great way to take games made with these sets to the next level. I think the combination of movement, emotes, and combat could open up huge opportunities for immersive games. I am excited to see what you put out next!

Kevin Prothero

My goodness, do I want both the SV Battlers 2 and expanded Forest set! I would love to use both in my current project.

Kevin Ross

Yes! Bring out the monster's belly! One thing I would love to have is a set of vending machines to go with the future/modern/junkyard Time Fantasy.

Farty Nose

Character generator parts sound fantastic!

jamesipoo

I am beyond excited to see where TF goes next! I'm more excited for the new character set! :-)

Lesley Paone

I would like some simple left / right up and down stairs like people use in a dungeon.

Kazuki

The characters that were made for the Japanese winners of whatever contest it was were so original, I'd love to see more special character designs. But I am super excited about the new set even though I only (exclusively) use TF in RPG Maker. Keep up the good work!

Eitan Margalit

I'm 100% in favor of that first set. In Chrono Trigger fashion, my battles take place in the overworld. If there aren't sprites for them, they don't fight. So far my protagonist is the naked guy. But in my defense, I just started.

OMGerm

I’m gonna be that guy. Let’s finish out faces for all of the characters. You know you want it.

Fang-tan

I would love maid and butler characters!

Snocrash

A massive Steampunk set, that would be my preference :D

Adam Aventa

A cemetery and crypt tileset would be cool

Hannah Banana

Let me start by saying, wow! What a wild ride it's been! You have no idea how much I look forward to these posts all month long. Anytime someone asks me the right way to do a Patreon, I point squarely at you. Personally, I can't wait to see some steampunk stuff. While you've covered a tremendous amount of ground, you've got a lot of other "times" and "themes" still available as well. American Western, Pirate (Caribbean and Eastern), Tropical Island Village, Post-Apocalyptic, Through the Looking Glass, Carnival, Alien Society, the list goes on. As far as a BIG idea? Well, I'd love to see you transition to higher resolution graphics. While x32 seems like a natural step, might I suggest instead embracing the x48 format that RPG Maker MV uses? With RPG Maker MV being 5 years old, I don't think anyone is expecting compatibility for 2000, 2003, VX, or VX Ace anymore (and those that ARE have the existing tiles at their disposal, not to mention other high-quality, high-res options for x32 engines). And of course, Game Maker and Unity are both adaptable enough to use graphics regardless of resolution. I think that with higher resolution graphics you open up a whole new world of incredible opportunities not only for tiles but ESPECIALLY for characters! And, the best thing is, you could literately remaster the entire Time Fantasy series as "Time Fantasy HD" and have years of existing content to pull ideas from. Regardless, I'll keep supporting you whatever you do! Thank YOU for all the awesome content!

Noah Seuring

My favorite work from you has always been tilesets and characters so anything with those would be excellent :) I am definitely enjoying the new forest tile sets!

Beau

You earned it!

Salyhin Chowdhury

Since you made a Feudal Japanese set, I was wondering, if you could make a Chinese Dynasty set cos my game is going to take place during that time period.

FireBlueRaptor

Some tribal lookin' characters maybe? Or some volcanic stuff?

Ben Metas

I think a demonic creature pack and a volcanic/hell tileset would be a nice combo.

Shalltear Bloodfallen

The full four-directional combat sprites would be simply amazing.

DarkGriffin

I think the inside a monsters belly set would be a good way to hit just about every theme in the base RPG maker kits. It also could come out a bit sooner then some other options.

DarkGriffin

I think steampunk is a good direction to hit more themes. Perhaps Western as well? They could have similar colors, just one is a bit more mundane then the other.

DarkGriffin

For the record, I'm interested in this one mainly cause I have an old xp maker game I would love to remake in tf style. That is the only set left with no match between the two kits.

DarkGriffin

I think the belly set would also work well for a scifi chipset too, for that space horrors feel.

Fang-tan

Ah of course I just didn't look hard enough! Thanks a bunch!

Dreamweaver Kara

Thanks for all your hard work. Hope I'm up there on longest supporters. :p

Strijdparel

This is also on the top of my list. Even the NPC's would be great althoug I don't think that is ever going to hapen.

Strijdparel

A little late to the party here, but other big stuff that would be great would be an Arabian Nights tile set with middle eastern style houses with the Agrabah-style round roofs. And a Wild West/ desert and or cantina set would also be great! This would be great habitats for the last beastmen tribes.

Sheldon George

4-directional combat sprites as well as the sv set

Reed of Hyrule

The steampunk preview looks great! But I realized that one thing was missing. ROBOTS! We need robot monsters to fight and/or join are heroes!

Uyarrr

More monsters would be really useful or like robots!
