Hello! Today I want to share an idea with you, and ask for your thoughts.

Time Fantasy: Animals was one of the first expansion sets that I released years ago. That set revolves around farm animals and forest animals, but nothing very exotic.

I was looking at the recent requests-- and looking through the other additional animals that I've shared here on patreon over the past couple of years-- and it got me thinking about the possibility for Time Fantasy: Animals 2.

If I go ahead with this, it'd cover the themes like: jungle, desert, artic, and ocean-- to provide animal life to match with some of the tileset expansions.

Here's the catch: a lot of these animals have been previously made and released here on patreon. About half of the pack would be made up of sprites that I originally made for patrons.

So I'm asking for your permission to include these sprites in the pack:

Lions and Tigers

Camels

Monkeys

Bees

Bugs

Shark

Fish

and maybe the Chocobos

These would make up a substantial part of the pack-- it goes beyond just a bonus inclusion or two. So I'm hesitant about this idea for two reasons: 1. this stuff was originally made for patrons, so that's why I'm asking for generally permission from you -- and 2. I feel weird charging new customers for the full pack if they might later join patreon and see that the content is duplicated.

So I would appreciate your honest input on this.

In addition to that, here are some ideas that I have to make new to include in this set (not necessarily promising all of them-- this is the brainstorm list):

Elephant (+ Mammoth variation)

Rhinoceros

Hippo

Giraffe

Zebra

Bison/Buffalo

Crocodile

Kangaroo

Little Lizards

Owl

Tropical Birds (Toucan, Parrot in multiple color variations)

Tropical Fish, Sting Ray, Blowfish

Seal, Sea lion

Penguin

Crab

If you have other suggestions that would fit in well, please share them here!

This is the kind of expansion pack that I think I can jam out pretty quickly once I get into it, especially since I have so many of the animals already finished that I mentioned above. So please let me know what you think about the topics that I've raised here.

Is it a good idea to make Time Fantasy: Animals 2?

Thanks!

Yes bro yes!!!!! This is the kind of stuff i love to see from you!

OliviaTheVampire

I would love this! I’ll be thinking about more animals to add

Flipster Gaming

I wouldn't mind, finding the patreon exclusive animals in this pack. I wouldn't mind it even if I would later join your patreon.

Dustin Sisler

I don't think that most people would mind this, but just in case, could you just put a * next to them in the description list saying that those are previous patreon requests and joining the patreon would also give access to them? That seems like a fair compromise to me.

Afaryz

Well for me personally... I bought some of the packs like Icons and so in and became Patreon after that. Wouldn't it be the same? It was my own mistake so no hard feelings at all. I think it would be the same

Eitan Margalit

Did we do domesticated animals yet? I hope so. It would flesh out the farm tileset.

C#

I'm fine with it, and you could get around the whole "they might join later" thing by including the Patreon animals as a bonus, like you've done in previous packs. As a side note, looking at that list really makes me want "exotic" versions of the Beast Tribe characters....something to consider? lol

CnD Games

I’m totally fine with it!! Especially if Owls are considered!

Robin Björklund

I'd say go for it! I bought several sets from you before becoming a patron, and since you ask for so little money to get access to most of the patron exclusive stuff, I didn't mind at all that I would get access to stuff I already bought.

VillainouSoup

Yes, some cats and dogs are in the 1st animals pack.

VillainouSoup

Definitely on board with the project and including the ones from patreon, I would like Vultures,

VillainouSoup

They have pigs cows and sheep on it too.

Eitan Margalit

Okay. Thank you. Sorry for not checking myself. I'm on my phone, not my computer. You know how it is.

Rubenyeahhh

Yes, this would be really cool! If you want to avoid disappointment for new customers who find out a substantial part of the content is repurposed (I doubt they would mind, but since you brought it up in your post), then just be honest about it in the description :) Tell them that part of this pack has been available for patrons for years - maybe they'll even join!

DC

No worries, Patreon releases don't have to stay exclusive forever imo. We're here to be supporters, not obstacles. Go for it!

VillainouSoup

On second thought, I have a ton of ideas for this sort of thing so here goes. Rattlesnake Eel Toucans Polar Bear Tortoise Swordfish Cranes Wolly Mammoth Coyote Seahorse Moose Iguana Sting Ray Vulture Sealion or Seal Dolphin Jellyfish

Eldaym

Yes, I support it!!

Chris Cromer

Personally I have no problems with this. But if it really worries you, you could make the pack for free for current patreon members for a limited time. This way we will get access to the additional new animals, which means we won't feel bad about the old patreon exclusive animals being part of that pack. Then a few months later remove the free access to patreon users.

JustJimmy

I'd be happy for this to be a paid release. I see the patreon as an early access to your finished sets. So it makes sense that bits and bobs from here and there would be used in full release sets later on.

Dave

No objections from me as a patron. And I was overwhelmed when I became a patron by soooooo much stuff becoming available to me. I don't think new patrons would have any issues with the duplication.

Tyler Warren

Dustin probably nailed the sentiment already, just calling it out with an astrex to bring attention to it. I don’t think any of us would mind getting them rolled into an additional pack. It helps to keep the theme together.

Alex Papp

Wasn't there already a moose in the original release? Oh, and one thing I did for my game was use the snow colors as a base to recolor the brown/black bear from his first release to make a polar bear. Also did that to have an Arctic Fox.

VillainouSoup

I couldn't really tell if it was just another elk or a moose but I'll definitely use your idea for the bear, thanks.

Frederic Faddoul

Some idle/action animations would be nice for animals 👍

Zombsigurd

Yeah this would be ideal, but either way I'm not going to say no to more animals

Michael Johnson

I say go for it. I vote add dolphins and small birds (various colors and patterns).

Mana Cloud

Lions and tigers, camel , bugs and fish from the previous patron releases, leave the rest for patrons, and add the elephant, owl, topical birds, tropical fish and the crab. That's my two-cents.

hailferdinand

I'd love some bigger dogs than the puppies/yorkies we currently have. Maybe some huskies and other dogs would fit the arctic theme?

Adam Aventa

I dont mind if you add them to the pack, some dead livestock and forest animals would be useful too, along with larger dogs.

Hayden Zammit

I wouldn't care if you threw the stuff made for Patrons into a pack at the end. One thing I'll say though, is that I'd like to see more animals that are closer to the medieval european sort of core that Time Fantasy has. Like deer or foxes for example. Animals like that can fit into lots of settings. Meanwhile, some of that proposed list feels a bit too specific. A kangaroo for example, is only found in Australia. I'd be less interested in the more specific animals to be honest.

finalbossblues

The original set has stuff like deer and foxes, so the idea is to expand to more exotic locations with this expansion. Hmmmm

Derek

Maybe if you're wembling on it just charge half the normal price to justify the new content.

hyzilion

please tropical birds!!

Renevatium

Hi, not sure if it helps, but IMHO, I think it would be fine to release the Animals 2 pack if you made the original Animals pack free for patrons that can already get the previously patron-only sprites you want to include. Also, chocobos don't seem to fit (all the others are real animals), so maybe also a TF: Mythical Monsters 2 pack including things like chocobos, murlocs/sahuagin, unicorns, dragons, gryphons, etc, that didn't make it into the first one. Lastly, upvote on llamas/alpacas.

Alex Papp

Would "child" versions of animals be a thing? Always thought it was a nice bonus having the children versions of deer, pigs, cows, etc.

finalbossblues

Yeah, some will. Depends on how I need to fill out the 8-sheets.

Tom Read

This all sounds amazing! I think most people have mentioned the main animals that spring to mind, and thanks so much for including the tropical birds and ocean creatures I requested! A couple of thoughts sprang to mind that are just sort of suggestions rather than 'must haves', but as you've got the big cat sprites already for the lion and tiger, could you adapt them to have leopards and panthers too, and maybe cheetahs, hyena, coyotes, puma, snow leopards, lynx, or similar type but distinctively different like that? Another was maybe more variations on the shark, like hammerhead, swordfish, great white, orca, narwhal, porpoise, those kinda deals? Oh, a whale would be epic!!!

Tom Read

I was going to advise exercising caution on the chocobos too, due to Nintendo being pretty tightly copyright obsessed, from things I've heard. I noticed you'd labelled the original thread they were on as 'Not Chocobos' as well, I guess for similar reasons! I agree with Renevatium's suggestion and something a few others have mentioned about more specifically fantasy monsters, which would never hurt to have, and would make a smart new set. Some other additions to that could be evil leech creatures, maybe some warriors/mutant bandits from the same race as the cool squidfaced wizard character you have, giant insects (ant, antlion, centipede, devil's coach horseman, pillbug, earwig, that kinda thing), rock lizards, freaky beak things, weird hybrids like bird-headed wasps or woolly crabs, shadow beasts / beings, I don't know really, I'm just riffing some possibilities and maybe got a bit carried away with the woolly crabs. It'll be awesome, whatever you create, anyway! Thank you for your assiduous work!

Hayden Zammit

I probably should have read your post more carefully lol. I also don't have the animals pack so I wasn't sure what was in them. My bad. Sorry.

Kazuki

I think the options are nice but I think their practicality is going to be for environmental flavor (so to speak). All of this work is nice, will be appreciated, but I don't know if it is a must versus other packs and suggestions.

DarkGriffin

Yes, go ahead. I see the patreon access as helping fund these critters and get early access to them, so I have no problem seeing these also get rereleased to non-patreon users later down the line. And of course I am all for more little animal critters. They are super cute in your Time Fantasy style! I'd love to see a revisit to Mythic Monsters as well. Maybe some gryphons or other legendary birds, beasts, some variety of dragons, especially elemental and a classic green/black European one. I can see a Mythic Monsters 2 being slightly more useful then normal critters to be honest. There's tons of use for monster sprites, both on map and battlers, that would thematically match the existing massive library of people and tiles for Time Fantasy.

DarkGriffin

How feasible is it to include "idle/action" wildlife animations for each animal as well? Stuff like roaring for lions, munching grass/eat/drink for cattle/deer, or little stand up and look around animations for rabbits, etc. It might be a lot of work making one for each critter. I'm thinking just 1-4 frames, probably single direction here to stay reasonable. But I think the end results could make these critters even more immersive to include in games and encourage their use more.

Normie's Progress

I think a polar bear may be a good choice, too, to go along with the penguin and seal/sea lion. An otter and perhaps some tropical/smaller snakes might be neat, too. Oh, and a capybara might be interesting too.

Warren Blackie

So I've mostly been a quiet patreon but this request really got my attention. The game I'm making with Time Fantasy assets is a tribute to my father who wrote me a Zelda-inspired story when I was a child. I was astounded how many assets of Time Fantasy magically clicked with that idea: T-Rex, Yeti, Centaurs, etc. and I've been using what little spare time I have to bring it to life. Three animals from that drawing that I'd love to request are: a Polar Bear, a boss crocodile, and a giant enemy crab boss. Again, there is no obligation since up until this point I've improvised with the glorious assets I've been given but if those three could be possible it would make my game all the more faithful to that story that sparked my imagination. I know it's not much but here's a little trailer to the game:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Evqap6BFDec&t=8s Still, thank you so much for these incredible assets! They have been worth every penny! I hope one day this game comes to life and I can have my father play it and remember how he inspired me. To answer your question though, I have no problem with the pack being released for newcomers.

Celestrium

I think it is fine to include the animals released to patrons in this pack, in our benefit, we got them first. I would love a pack that expanded on the animals personally.

Dungeonmind

Maybe just a small disclaimer saying you can get this pack by becoming a Patreon. At least this way there is no surprises

Durance Gaming

Dude, with the amount of quality content you provide, I don't think anyone should be off-put by you doing this. I agree with Dungeonmind, though. Maybe pop a notice or disclaimer on there so you don't get someone buying the pack then realizing they have half the stuff already lol. I know that personally, I bought packs THEN came to patreon and I have no ill feelings towards the money I spent before finding your patreon. I'm happy to throw down support when and where I can.
