Woah... woah... woah! Here's a big one! 🥳 It's here at last!

(warning: this post has lots of animated gifs)

🎅 Merry Christmas! 🎅

No need for wordy introductions-- I'll let the visuals to the talking. Here are some preview characters that I made to show off these pieces in action:

A golden hero!

An angel with bunny ears!

A grizzled farmer!

A wild barbarian!

An academic cat-person NPC...

And the demon-warrior...

But remember-- we're not just making normal walking sprites with these. Oh no, the Time Elements set allows for full four-directional action!

Attack with your sword!

And jump over obstacles!

Okay... now this is what you're waiting for-- here's the downloads:

Edit: Beta Links removed -- the full version is available now!

NOTE: Some browsers have a hard time with .zip files. If the download isn't working, make sure to right-click and 'save as', or try a different browser.

ALSO: I've written a bunch of notes into the 'readme' file included in the download. Be sure to scan through that if you have any questions.

------

EDIT: I uploaded an updated build of the generator software. This fixes the problem with the double-digit files displaying alongside "top1". It's the same link -- I just overwrote "elemgen.zip" so you can download again if you want the updated one.

------

That's it! It's out-- I managed to get it done before the year is over. This has been a massive long-term project... and to be honest, we're only just beginning. I'm already thinking about the expansion packs... there's more pieces that I couldn't fit into this...

But first, maybe a little break... 😅

I'll be back after Christmas. I hope that this set keeps you busy in the meantime.

🎵 Have a wonderful holiday. 🎵

See you soon!

So where is the link? :)

Grutusk

Ye this website is awful at finding released products...Thanks for the answer ;)

Grutusk

Thanks <3. I am doing a system in Godot with char creation so i actually need the sheets rather than the app itself :). And i love the style of ur assets ;)

Kanok

YES! VERY Merry Christmas to everyone and especially to you, Jason! Thanks for these wonderful assets! See you in 2022!

Servo

Looks great, good work!

Eitan Margalit

I spent a while looking for the right cheering crowd gif to embed before realizing I don't want to open those floodgates and kill everyone's browser some more.

Pennycook

Amazing! Didn't expect Christmas to come early this year! Merry Christmas.

Kanok

I edited my post, but it didn't save? Anyway, apparently there is an issue with the generator. Here is an image of it. https://imgur.com/a/Ia5bCIQ

Hello, thanks for making and releasing this! Will there be an off-hand and main-hand separation in the future? Were the elements made from scratch or cut apart from existing sprites?

Tom Read

:o These look excellent!!! Can't wait to get them up and running (and jumping and attacking!) in a new project!

Omnistorm

Wow... this is a game-changer for RPG creators everywhere. Well done. This is a milestone moment for you!!! Can't wait to get all of the animations working. Before I start in with a lot of work, are there any specific plugins for RPG Maker MZ or MV you recommend to work with these sheets? Thanks!

Eitan Margalit

Up to him, and made from scratch. Respectively. As a lefty, I feel your pain, but (as always) there's probably a supply-demand thing here. Unless you want to make dual-wielders? Because they're tough to animate, require a completely different stance, and are so impractical that they can only really work in fantasy worlds (which, unfortunately, is exactly where we want them).

Justin Nelson

I don't understand. Off hand could be a shield for a swordsman or an orb or something for a magic user. Maybe my initial wording was misleading. I also don't use rpg maker so that could be it too. Nonetheless the individual parts are really cool.

Reed of Hyrule

These are amazing! They are just what I was needing for a new project. Thank you!

Pennycook

One suggestion to make things even better -- it would be really handy to have a version of each piece colored in grayscale. That would make it much easier to add color dynamically via shaders (e.g. via gradient mapping).

Eitan Margalit

Second. If players can choose their own palettes, that would kick ass.

finalbossblues

Yeah, that's mentioned in the readme lol. We rushed to get this out for today. Will have an updated generator soon.

finalbossblues

I saw someone making some progress using the preview sheets I released before, looked really cool. I don't know if or where the plugin would be released tho.

finalbossblues

Users are welcome to edit the PNG files to use whatever color works best for you. The included color palettes are just some suggested defaults that I think look good.

Eitan Margalit

Oh. Well, this probably isn't the answer you want, but the off-hand is just kinda hanging there. You could paste a shield or orb there no problem. Depending on what engine you use, you can automate this pasting by creating new layers (probably "offhand in front" for when you're facing south and "offhand behind" for when you're facing north). Or, as FBB suggests, use the pieces to make sprites yourself, with Aseprite or GIMP, because it's really hard to code for every single possible combination. (I take this as a challenge lol)

Eitan Margalit

If you happen to use Godot for some reason (I like it idk), there's a demo of a composite sprite already in the asset library. I haven't checked it out (still working on basic movement), so it may be some Scribblenauts-esque marionette. But it might not! A lot of people probably want to show their RPG heroes actually wearing the armor they equip.

Raven

This is an amazing piece of software, thanks for sharing! I'm having a ton of fun with the generator.

jamesipoo

Yay!!!! This is amazing! Great job!!!

Kanok

Sorry about that. Should read the readme's more often...still this thing is awesome! Also, check on top6. Bit of a glitch with the sprites for the attack animation.

finalbossblues

Good catch, thanks! I'll fix it before the final release

James Stuart

Hey! love your work, but I am unsure how to launch this in Linux. I'm still learning the ropes a bit. I am running Ubunu.

Eitan Margalit

Either Wine or a virtual machine. Same as all Windows-only stuff.

Afaryz

Thanks for sharing the whole process until now to get this fantasic work. It was worth waiting for it. Love it.

Afaryz

Btw their is a little bug/mistake with the top6 sheets in the so called wind up animation. In every Color is a copy paste body to much in the sideviews.

Chauncey Davidson

Thank you so much! You rock, thanks for all of the hard work this year, not just for the release, but for the constant updates also. Can't WAIT to use this!

Marcl Bm

it woud be realy cool if the created character sheets woud come with side view battlers!

finalbossblues

Hmm, all of the frames are there. Might be possible to export a SV sheet format from them... I'll ask about it, thanks!

James Sloan

This is the coolest! Thank you so much! The only thing I'm having issue with the generator is, the character sheets exported for RPG maker are all drastically smaller than normal RPG Maker MV sprite size. Am I doing something wrong?

ben

This happened when I did sprites manually, too. Sizing up manually to 2x size got approximately the same size as other sprites, but presented different problems: https://imgur.com/a/l4AuAoy (This is from MZ, but the dimensions are the same for MV and MZ.) I also suspect that it's supposed to be at 3x since that's usually how pixel art tends to size up for MV and MZ.

finalbossblues

There should be options to export to different rpgmaker versions that will automatically scale them, it's working fine for me

finalbossblues

There is something goofy where they're an extra tile high for RPGMaker-- that's because these sheets have extra space at the bottom that's used for things like the weapon animations; so the character is centered instead of at the bottom of the sheet. I imagine that some clever rpgmaker users will have a simple plugin pretty soon to solve this.

Half Right Face Games

I've been working around this using a plugin for MZ called AnimaX by Pheonix KageDesu. Even though it is a bit overkill, it allows Offsetting of the Player Character Sprite. If you offset your Y by 51 it will offset the bottom of your sprite to where it should be, and will still show as intended for weapons animations

Oathwood

You've really outdone yourself with this one! Great work my friend, and merry Christmas!

A Nameless Rabbit

Is there any plans for adding laughing and shocked faces to this (like you see in some of your previously released sprites) ?

Frederic Faddoul

Except maybe the idle and cast animation frames.

Versine

Has anyone gotten the linux version to work? I get an error like this: liblibX11.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Maybe the extra 'lib' is a typo?

Farty Nose

A side view battler export sheet would make this already useful tool even more usefulerest.

Shaun

These are fantastic! Thank you so much! Do you have a guide to which of the raw sections correspond to the animations? I'm trying to match them up in my own animation generator. EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out! For anyone else, the reference image included (rpg_export_quickguide) is the same layout, just wrapped after the 12th sprite.

Shaun

Quick question: What is the proper layering supposed to be per direction?

XerShade

Do these fit in well with the Time Fantasy graphics?
