Just a word of advice when dealing with subject matter like enslavement: you may not want to define these people who were captured and tortured by the slavers so two dimensionally as 'slaves, full stop.' Kinda feels weird. Like, these characters are supposedly multidimensional and have their own histories etc., so for the comic to just say 'meh, they're slaves now' feels like it writes off each individual character's validity. Plus, I've heard some people in real life who either were enslaved or are descended from enslaved people say that being defined for all time as a slave reduces their existence to the violence of their oppressor.

I've also referred to them as victims on several occasions. "Slave" is just a shorter word than "Person who used to be in captivity with slave traders".
