Love this choice, Mel I think reached a peak with this type of movie here. The Last of the Mohicans (1992) (with Daniel Day Lewis) would be a cool companion to this... and might also be a nice patriotic choice for the US's 4th of July.

Last of the Mohicans was great, if you choose to do it I'd find a paragraph sized explanation of the French and Indian War, it won't spoil anything but give you some context. From 1200 to the 1990s boys at that age still throw fists like that, even friends LOL. At least me and my friends would, growing up in the US. Closest we got to dolls were GI Joes and playing war with green plastic army men. I LOL'ed so much when you commented about the rag at the end. Great movie, great watch.

I knew going into this I would need lots of fast-forwarding through the tragic parts. I presume most of us here who follow Mary love and revel in her romantic side when the plot is going well and cringe if not tear up when she's depressed when a film turns tragic ... which most all of this is. Mel Gibson seems to gravitate to tragic figures i.e. Passion of the Christ and the torture in the end of William Wallace. So I suppose in a fatherly way, I did not want to see Mary suffer through this.

This is a great film but not historically accurate. If you want to see a film that is more historically accurate about Robert the Bruce and the fight for Scottish Freedom, got to checkout Outlaw King on Netflix. Stars Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce. It also stars Florence Pugh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Stephen Dillane.

Fun fact, the flower that little Murran gives to little William at the funeral of his father and brother is the Thistle, national flower of Scotland. I think I saw someone else mentioned "The Last of the Mohicans", highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet, I think you'd love it.

Here's another fun fact, Angus MacFadyen (Robert, the Bruce) gave his number to my sister's best friend at a sushi restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga California. He was on a date and when his date went to the bathroom he came over to their table and gave her his number. To be fair, my sister's bestie is extremely attractive lol

I was happy to see you react to this; it's such a great film. I agree with you, Mary, I don't find Mel Brooks attractive either. Now, Mel Gibson, on the other hand, if I weren't straight, I might find him very attractive. Oh yeah, what do you mean horses cannot swim? Here in the US, we take our yearlings to the YMCA for swimming lessons, have you not heard about that? And I have to ask you, why does it upset you so much that a widower hooks up with another woman? I mean, really, how long do you believe they should be alone after death?
