You never did it before Mary? Heh. How odd…

This was a groundbreaking film for its time, appealing to a generation. It made Molly Ringwald the "it" girl superstar ultimately flash-in-the-pan has-been. Defiant 'kids' rebelling against authority, a tried and true genre as in the film Animal House. And of course the hit song "Forget About Me" by the Scottish rock group Simple Minds was an anthem for the MTV generation.

Mary, I have been looking forward to this video for years. I knew you would appreciate and love it. First, times have changed as have hairstyles, music, clothing, and the way teenagers talk to each other. However, the one thing that never changes is the desire to fit in. FWIW I was the most like Brian in high school. I was the nerd who was a virgin. I made good grades, but my parents never would have disowned me for getting an F. And, Mary, I would have befriended you in high school. ☺️🍒

Mary, next two teen movie suggestions: “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” (1982) “Better Off Dead” (1985)

Definitely ! I did not care about social norms. I was friends with anyone who was nice to me ^_^ even though that alienated me at times, I didn’t care

I only had one box that I checked and it’s the same for today: be a good person. Don’t be an a-hole. We can disagree on politics, tastes, beliefs, music, movies, television, books, etc. My definition of a good person is if someone falls down and you help them get back up, you’re alright with me.

We actually see Carl the janitor’s photo in the montage at the beginning. He had noticeably more hair and was very popular. There’s a great Billy Joel song called “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” which talks about this couple, Brenda and Eddie, who were the king and queen of the prom. The popular people. THE couple. And the song talks about how they peaked too early in life like so many of them do. I had it really bad in middle school. I’m so grateful we didn’t have social media back then. That’s the one thing that kids and teenagers today have to deal with that my generation did not. The joke now is that if you made “The Breakfast Club” today, everyone would be looking at their phones ignoring each other.
