Honestly, any of the albums on the poll would have been worth a listen! Abbey Road though is iconic!

Wow. Where do I even begin? I had high expectations for this video and they were exceeded. Mary, it warms my heart how much you loved this album, but most importantly, you got it. You felt it. The Beatles are my favorite band and I still remember being a kid hearing this album for the first time. Interestingly, this is the last album The Beatles recorded. No one knew at the time, but listening to this album especially to “The End”, it really feels like a goodbye. And, Mary, don’t you dare feel bad about getting emotional about a song or anything else that touches your heart. As Dr. Berger said in the movie “Ordinary People”, feelings are scary. And sometimes they're painful. And if you can't feel pain, then you're not gonna feel anything else, either. But the same goes for happiness and joy, too. To this day, when I listen to “Here Comes The Sun”, I get choked up. And George Harrison could translate so much emotion into that slide guitar. I realize that not everyone is a Beatles fan and that’s ok. There will be some people who say that they appreciate some songs, but just not a fan. And there will be others who will be less diplomatic. You’re entitled to like or dislike. Why this music resonates with so many people is because it touches your heart, mind, and soul. These were four guys who made incredible music together and lyrics that varied from introspective to whimsical. And, last but not least, credit has to be given to their producer George Martin who arranged the strings, horns, and orchestra. Mary, I hope this isn’t your last foray into The Beatles catalogue. Whether it’s online or offline, I hope you continue to go discover the rest of their music and especially their earlier stuff to hear the evolution of their songs. There may be better bands, sure. But The Beatles did something most bands didn’t do-they changed the culture.

Rodrigo

Loved this reaction Mary, and no need to ever apologize for crying, it’s like apologizing for having a heart . I too have cried to “Here Comes the Sun” before. Some songs just hit you like that when you’ve been going through tough times. It actually just happened to me yesterday, a song I hadn’t heard in a while came on (“Ghost” by “The Jam”) and the tears just started pouring down . “Here comes the sun” is one of those songs that lets you know you’re not alone and although life can be hard, there will be better days, the sun will shine again. 😊 By the way don’t know if you know but the last 16 minutes of this album are supposed to be one long medley, from” You never give me your money” to “ Her Majesty “ that’s why they’re so short and one song jumps right in to the next. Hope you listen to more “Beatles” in the future.

Happy Hanukkah

I enjoyed this, thanks. 1. As Rodrigo mentioned, the last few songs make up the famous "B-side medley." If you haven't done so, I suggest you give them a second listen to see how they flow into each other, preferably from a source that replicates the album experience, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CVsBOjeDzk (You can start at 6:29) When you raised the possibility of an album reaction, there was a brief discussion about two possible types of good albums: "concept" albums and greatest hits compilations. The downside of original albums is that alongside some hits, they usually contain filler material. The upside is that the best albums can offer a cohesive experience beyond a mere collection of songs. Sadly, this kind of album is no longer common or even aspired to. 2. The Beatles were obviously influential, and also inspired many covers. Here is Joe Cocker putting his own spin on She Came In Through The Bathroom Window: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIl8BjLtUYU Joe Cocker also performed a classic cover of the Beatles' With A Little Help From My Friends at Woodstock. Instead of linking to this, I'll link to a John Belushi (whom you recently saw in The Blues Brothers) impression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmjWO7oY8LU 3. Speaking of emotional reactions to music... Shortly after the breakup of the Beatles, George Harrison released My Sweet Lord. Harri Best reacted to it, and although I'm not a patron or even subscriber, I still remember his reaction 5 years later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDh_HAv_rr4

George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” album is another one I think Mary will love. Definitely one for the future.

For those of us of the generation that grew up with the Beatles and knows all of these iconic hits from one of the most revered albums in history -- hearing Mary hearing them and reacting to them gives me chills. Younger generations have adopted the Beatles for the same reason my generation did. We all wanted to embrace her figuratively don't we? This is what Patreon is all about. She is so articulate in her evaluations. Shocking she hasn't heard these and she had to read that Ringo Starr was the drummer for the Beatles. Oh my gawd!
