Hey everyone!

This week I start a new series of videos where I focus just on the main armour colour for space marines. With the new Heresy release coming up I would love to do my takes on the legion schemes. I hope you enjoy these, they also allow me to keep the content flowing a bit better, as they are a little less intense to produce then projects like fuegan.

You can check out my Sons of Horus and World Eater dread videos if you want more detail about the weathering process. In these videos I’ll be focusing on the armour colour, and basically doing the rest of the details the same way.

I also had some issues with exporting the video above 720p, which I think I have resolved. It should be in 1080 and 4k now. Let me know!

Hope you enjoy it,

Andy

Is Henry going to be painting an Elf this week

James Durham

Brilliant timing! Just bought a box of Mkiii...

Jared Bryant

Yes please—more Heresy. Would love to see an Alpha Legion take since there are so many variations.

cultofpaint

Haha no! He’s off so you get two from me this week

Lukas

Thank you Andy 😄 If possibile I would love to see your take on IX legion ♥️

Mursi Beaucoup

Very cool video, I really like the idea of using a larger scale print to demo it, keep up the great work! Looking forward to the others legions

Omg, I never clicked on the video so quickly after seeing a notification on my inbox <3 Thank you Andy, would love to see more legion schemes from you! The airbrushing on this one is so smooth it's unreal :0 I would love to see what can be realistically achieved on a smaller, basic marine model, without as much working space as this Contemptor-sized sculpt :D

I’m keen to do alpha legion, very muted and pale is the plan.

I’m so here for this colour theory input - the clearest explanation of chroma and saturation I’ve seen; miles better than tons of ‘artsy’ tutorials out there. Love the CoP Heresy recipes (though you guys always make me want to start more projects with them 🤯). Would be interested to know why you’re not so keen on Abbadon Black, and also how you avoided airbrushing highlights into the recesses around the helmet… Cheers!

mclargehuge

Oh god this giant terminator is going to trample us all!!!

John M

This is amazing, thanks so much Andy. What is your preferred airbrushing black these days (not sure if the old VMC black is still good after the formula change)?

Judson Bates

Andy, a couple of things. One, please do not worry about your “yapping” during videos. I have learned so much from you in a short amount of time from your lectures using Photoshop or demonstrating on the palate. Please continue them and don’t worry. Two, I love that you painted more of a line (or basic) trooper here. Believe it or not, there are not many examples out there (from high level painters) on how they would paint a basic tactical marine. For those of us that are new it is extremely helpful when you demonstrate on a model like this and we can see your volumes and highlights. Please consider doing more “basic” troops in nmm! The videos would be quick and easy for you, but would demonstrate a lot for newbies. Lastly, more HH from Andy!!

I'd love to see you have a crack at an Iron Warriors Scheme for Heresy.

Grimdark Mark

This makes me very happy. Can’t wait for the series

Ed

Great vid, loved the theory side. Would love to see how you would tackle Iron Warriors.

Sam Smith

Great video can’t wait to see this series and explore more legions

MrSeer

Looks brilliant. Any tips on how to know how much to thin your raw umber filter?
