I’m so glad this was the first video, I was in awe of this piece when I saw it in the flesh! After the matte varnish you layer up and glaze with satin paints, do you unify the finishes at the end with a varnish?

cultofpaint

Thanks Daniel! thats a very good point. You might find that using a lot of white makes it matte enough already. If you have any differences in finish then for sure varnish again! I also find that painting over the already matte surface makes a difference to the paint going on top. After all that was finished I didn't varnish again to let the metals shine.

awesome, i have some primaris just waiting to be blood angels so going to give it a bash :D

Wonderful start to your patreon with that deep fantastic red of the blood angles. I’m wondering if you would be covering more parts such as the bare headed astartes and other elements in this diorama such as the gold etc. As well with the format of the lessons brought here, are you going to be branching out into theory and specific techniques rather than painting recipes?

Seb

Hey guys. Would love to see how you do the extra long purity seals – and basically a step by step for every other detail with these models! Cheers!

Ben

Love Love LOVE this! Been a Big fan for a while. I'm curious about the red used here vs the red on the SoB cloth. I'd be very interested in your thought process for designing the reds/why they're different. Thank you!!!!!

Timmey

Is the weapon going to be in a tutorial? If not could you share the colors?

Daniel Martin

Could you mention your PSI when airbrushing?

Paul

If you were just using a brush and starting from a Khorne red base coat would you still use the matte varnish or just straight into highlights?

cultofpaint

I would go straight for the highlights. Sometimes when you airbrush and use a lot of thinner, it turns pretty glossy. If you like the satin finish you don't need to varnish at all! the method can remain the same for painting but matte or satin is down to you. Hope that helps!

Hi fellas. Wheres the collar piece from on the banner bearer Andy?

Mike F

Absolutely. Love it. I'm gonna see if it fits onto the front of my Imperial Fist Huscals conversion.

Meltabombed

Fantastic, absolutely stunning. Until I actually went and looked I had no idea that squad from a few years ago was also yours! That piece has been an inspiration to me for a long time! Question about color; what if I wanted to use a more orangey flesh tone for highlighting? On my Blood Angels I paint now I use Fairy Flesh from Vallejo Nocturna to get a salmon-y color, do think it would still give the same vibrancy using it in this way? And also what about using a more purple shadow? I usually use some kind of mix of S75 Black Leather and red to shade my Angels. I guess what I'm asking is do you think that using those further pushes outside of the "red spectrum" will kill the vibrancy of the red, or create more contrast? Thanks for the tutorial!

David Paz

Hi there! I have a few quick questions, when you apply the matte varnish, do you do it on the whole miniature? with a brush or with the airbrush? and afterwards, you can paint over this new layer of matte varnish, is there any problem os strange effect? Thanks guys!!

Kris Rigg

Is that banner custom made, if so I would love to know how it's done?
