Good Morning Cult!

Hope some of you will be getting you Sigvald Pre orders in the post this weekend. Here is Part 1 for the Sigvald series which I hope is enough to keep you occupied this week. I have tried a different style this time, with still images I am talking over. I chose this as it allowed me to do nice close up shots and give you an accompanying PDF guide. I thought it would be nice to have a video explaining all the theory and why, then you can just refer to the PDF when you sit down and paint him. I used my new camera for the face photos, and I am not happy with them. My new camera (Canon M50) is fantastic for video with 4K footage, but may ancient Canon 5D has an incredible lens on it and still wins on still shots. So for the later parts of the tutorial, I switch back to my old camera and the shots are much sharper. So for all the NMM elements I hope you will see much clearer photos.

I thought it was just amazing to put together so I hope you enjoy! I didn’t actually talk about Sub- Assemblies in the video. You will see the kit is actually really great to paint in Parts. I would break it down in as few or many as you feel comfortable. It is worth noting I painting it in one piece mostly due to the very fast deadline I had for this.

Let me know your thoughts on this pairing of video & PDF and if you had heard of Rembrandt lighting before. Most of all, enjoy!

Andy

Mine should be delivered today. Hope to follow along and actually finish something for a change.

Been waiting all week for this 🤘

Enjoyed the process on this one mate. plenty of explanation and images to guide along. The reason why you go about things along with how you do it really help. For me I struggle with where to apply highlights and the size of volumes, so your thoughts behind your decisions really help to cement it in my noodle. I love that you talk through your mistakes as well. Definitely easier to learn from others mistakes rather than making my own :) Really excited for the cape. my favourite bit of this model I think. Love the tones against the rest of the model. Shield and gold are the nuts as well mind. Cheers bud.

I've been waiting for these to drop so I can do some paint alongs. Picked up the fat dude on the throne and its such a gorgeous model, really hope I can do it justice.

@andy what colours do I need to get ordered ready for the cape?

JJ Economu

This was so so helpful!! :) Thanks so much, learnt a lot and was very excited for this to come out. Love all the colour theory

Really like this style of tutorial Andy. Especially appreciate the combination of deep dive on theory with explanation of your aesthetic choices - helps a lot with developing not just technique but also the right kinds of thinking approaches. As ever, the model is looking super cool; you definitely made the right decision about the evil eyes... Cheers!

James

Great tutorial. The combination of the video and pdf is very effective. I love that you and Henry cover and explain your trial and error as part of the process. The related explanation is very informative.

Allie Donald-Munro

loved the tutorial it was good seeing the still pics and you talking over them. I will need to remember about the hair when i pick him up.

Paper Demon

Great stuff, really enjoyed hearing your comments! However I must say I missed a lot seeing you actually painting...😪

Jeffrey Cramer

Sorry if this is a dumb question but where do I find the PDF?

Chris McKenzie

I really like this style of tutorial. It felt very well rehearsed and to the point, having a lot of depth within a relatively short video. If there’s one other thing I’d like to see it would be a view of the underside of the hair, perhaps with a short bit on how to approach painting the barely seen areas in extreme shadows (such as the underside of cloaks and the back of shields). Fantastic job though Andy, I think this will be the model I finally pick up and paint along with!

John

I did enjoy this style a fair bit. Not sure what can be done with overlays, but when showing palette views, is it possible to have text with a little pointer showing which paint is which?

Thanks for this Andy! Really liked the reflective element on the video and the accompanying pdf is perfect to fit alongside the vid! I really loved the inquisitor video where we literally saw your step by step though! It was great hearing your thoughts in real time, how you went about blending colours and your actual brush strokes and your push and pull of paint. For me, I'd love to see you continue to do the videos where we watch you paint the model exactly as you did with the inquisitor. Both kinds of videos are still fantastic and a great learning experience!
