Hi everyone,

So part 2 did not go as planned, but it has given us an interesting diversion!! Part 3 will be up in a couple of days. Sometimes a test scheme just doesn't work!

Have a great weekend and I'll be back real soon.

Damn, when you put it in a different light the model really looked different. However, I am enjoying seeing this process and your thinking!

Coming to that moment of “it’s just not quite right” is so challenging…but I also find it inspiring because usually I can finally see why it’s not working and press on to something better. Great video! Just picked up the blackened bronze so I’m looking forward to giving it a go on my AT chassis

Really inspiring that you also have moments of ‘yeah this just isn’t working’ but persevere with a new game plan- thanks for the video!

Would you mind letting me know the brand/ model of the vortex mixer please. I have been thinking of buying one too.

Interesting video. In terms of the metallics, from my experience of clear colour word bearers it’s tricky. In a similar vein you can spend ages on interesting silver metal pre-shade and if you get the clear coats or subsequent varnish wrong it just wipes out all the nuance. A few thoughts though. I found the Vallejo metal colour (gloss) black primer may help. It creates a flatter surface as a starting point and helps to create a more brilliant finish with more light reflecting back off the model (and preserving more of the shine after varnishing). Also I wonder if the larger metal fleck size of the dark star paints might not be helping, on top of a Matt undercoat and with the Matt particles in the satin varnish (Although I appreciate this might create more variance in the metallic finish - I used to find a similar thing with Tamiya metallics). The other point I’ve found is to be really careful with the varnish and perhaps thin it and do multiple passes if necessary after the initial coat varnish has dried. I would often find it looked ok and then as it gradually dried further it became obvious I’d killed the shine or nuance in the highlights/shading. I don’t profess to be an expert though.

I bring up several of these points in the follow up video.

Great video as always. What was the vortex mixer you mentioned?
