Hey Everyone,

Bit of a different this video. I’ve been really struggling to be happy with my painting progress on Teclis. I’m many can relate and I wanted to make this weeks video focusing on pushing through those hard patches. It always tends to happens at times where I make progress, so I’m looking forward to see what I can do after this project! Hope you like it,

Andy

TECLIS PART 3 - Overcome Adversity

Thank Andy..needed this today. I'm working on my GD piece and somehow I've got it in my head that every element has to be something different than I've done before. Good reminder to just paint a few with techniques / colours that are within my comfort zone.

The miniature world is full of carefully curated models painted and lit to look great without any insight into the struggle. Candid videos like this are really useful and inspiring. When you hear an award winning painter talk about overcoming issues they've had, it makes the content more relatable. Painting is rarely perfect first time and learning how experienced painters overcome this, changing or choosing techniques/paints to lessen any impact are great advice to help others overcome their own struggles.

Really appreciate this video Andy. Emotional honesty is very welcome and proves that those struggles are real for all of us from beginners to competition winners. Personally, as a beginner, I find the most demoralising thing about the sort of ‘general’ Internet miniature content is the way everyone seems to suggest that it’s all so easy all the time. I get it: they’re trying to be accessible, but it can be a battle sometimes to remember to be ok with one’s own current level in the face of all the ‘masterpiece in 20 minutes’ stuff. When you share a video like this it also helps us to learn from the process you’ve undergone; focusing on keeping things simple when the challenges are toughest is great advice. I think it’s always true that we have such a different relationship with our minis than other people who look at them and while that’s natural, it can be difficult especially in situations where we’re expecting to be judged. I think your Teclis is looking fantastic, which is obviously coming from the perspective of an art fan rather than an experienced competition judge. I hope you are able to be proud of it when it’s done and see the valuable learning you got from the project not just the heartache. The thing about the rigours of competition - especially ones like GD - is that they force you to put enormous focus on exacting, technical proficiency, which is fine, but this is art and we ain’t robots…

a principle i was taught years ago always helps with not only miniature painting but in every day life and work if you get stuck always work from the K.I.S.S principle Keep It Simple Stupid and you can't really go wrong

Best video I've seen by you, Andy! And one of the best painting videos I've ever seen, to be honest. The whole series is pure gold (highlighted with pale green).
