Hey everyone,

As a pre-warning, this video in theory heavy. I’m really happy to be able to explain some of these important concepts, which when painting for a display miniature really helps. I really need your feedback on this one, to see if it’s the sort of thing you want to see here.

The other good news is I am deep into filming Howling Banshees and Jain Zarr together! This will be army painting focussed so different to this one. Hope you enjoy the variety I’m trying to get here. I think after the banshees Farsight would be a cool video.

Cheers!

Andy

Theory heavy videos are bang on the money,, they're super valuable, I feel like the theory side of painting is a real sticking point for advancing skills, at least for me. Well up for more of these mate!

It's a pleasure to see your progress on such a project, with all the highs and lows. But adding a hugh amount of theory is just priceless. This is something to take away for so many projects!

I really enjoy your theory heavy videos and they offer great tips and ideas to challenge more experienced painters. It's all about improving and learning through trying different techniques and approaches to the hobby. I'm also super excited for the upcoming Banshee and Jain Zarr video

I’m new to the Patreon, enjoy any content that talks about the whys and the process. Enjoyed it and I don’t hate hearing that top level painters get just as burnt out from doing the same shit on a mini as a regular scrub painter. Good one Andy!!

This is absolutely brilliant Andy. There are so few of these kinds of tutorials out there in miniature painting and they're really important because they address something that is very difficult to self-teach (namely, how to look at miniatures in the most useful ways both technically and artistically). There's loads of really useful information and learning in this video on both tackling light volumes and also how to evaluate the project. It's very easy for some of us who are less experienced/ knowledgeable to be just blown away by the overall effect of an amazing paint job like this and as a result miss how to evaluate the different elements of it. You sometimes seem to worry about waffling, but actually 40 minutes is a really good video length that balances juicy content with being digestible, and it comes across as concise and well thought through. Great job - more of this kind of thing will be very welcome! 👍

When you mentioned this topic in the Necron series, it was a big "aha" moment for me so it's even better to have a full explanation! This is hugely inspiring and will definitely inform not only my current (hopefully GD) project, but my painting in general. Thanks for taking the time to deep-dive, it's always massively informative and useful.

This has been great! I really love learning the theory behind this hobby and it isn't something you see a lot of, on Youtube. What's being discussed simply isn't feasible to display in a conventional painting tutorial. I'm definitely going to need two plus viewings to absorb all of this, but Andy's delivery should make this very pleasant indeed. Overall great idea chaps and I'd be very keen to view similar videos

Really liked the video. Personally, I tend to pick nuggets of wisdom from different tutorials and then struggle to really integrate them all and make it coherent. This video really helps in understanding and applying a project plan. Thanks for explaining it in detail and then coming back to show that the painting result holds up to the theory.

I'd like to join the chorus of appreciation for this. Really useful to have a theory start and a practical demonstration. I'd be very happy to see more with that format and high end theory included.

I loved this kind of nmm theory video, like where to place the light and why. I am currently stuck with Khorn's rabbit head, so I wonder if you guys are gonna create any theory/tutorial about how to paint nmm on a purely flat surface?

I know this is an old post now but I've just got around to it and wanted to add my appreciation and vote for more of this to the masses above. Really informative.
