Hello everyone,First of all, I wanna start by saying thank you very much to all of you who filled out the feedback form recently. I do appreciate it very much. That being said, it's time to get down to business. After going through a lot of these forms and talking to fellow game dev friends, I realize that each of the major releases of CCC so far have actually all been their own separate games, and their own separate prototypes. Stripping away certain elements and replacing them with others to figure out what works. But I can't keep doing that. I need to stop prototyping and make something definitive, or this thing will never get done.I think a big mistake of mine was not releasing more incremental updates for Patrons and gathering feedback as I went along. Which was my intention at first, but things got wrapped up in a combination of coding dependancies that just kept making things buggy, and wanting releases to feel really big and impactful. But during this feedback gathering phase, I've dug deeper and learned more about things like Event Systems to make my systems more modular and stable.Anyways, there's no easy way to say this, so I'm just gonna rip the bandage off. I am contemplating restarting this whole thing one more time. With a proper feasible scope, proper modularity, and proper road map, and keeping you all updated more often with more Patron-exclusive incremental builds.I understand if that sounds frustrating, and if you feel to leave the Patreon because of that, I totally understand, because the wait has already been so long. Part of me doesn't want to do it this way either after all the work I did. But after the feedback given on the test build of 1.3, I really don't think it's in a ideal state for public consumption. Like, fundamentally. But if I haven't lost you yet, please allow me to share what I plan to do differently.I would really like to provide more frequent devlogs and playable builds. I realize I've been keeping you all in the dark for a month at a time when it comes to sharing progress, and I don't want to go about things that way anymore. I would really like to give more progress reports, whether weekly or bi-weekly. Even if it's not the most exciting news. Also, now that I'm coding things more modularly, I should be able to provide more playable progress builds to you all without fear of a million dependancy-related bugs. So I can gather your input and feedback while building this thing, and not after massive chunks have been made where it's too late to change anything. And hopefully everything can get done in a fraction of the time.If feedback on this post approves, give me a month, and I'll try to have a new improved, stable character creator ready for you to start things off, with devlogs in between. With a proper road map soon after.Again I'm really sorry to drop such a bombshell, and if you want to end your support, you're more than entitled to. But I figured it would be best to provide a transparent update rather than beat around the bush. And I just really wanna get this thing right this time. If I haven't lost you, I hope the plans I have listed out sound ideal to you (I'm also open to any other input as well). But with that being said, thank you for your time. And I await your feedback.

Ultimately, it’s up to you and I think restarting gives you a chance to make a better product then forcing yourself to build on top of a base you’re not satisfied with

caktopus

hey, if this is what it takes for you to make a game that you feel satisfied with, then do it! i know i’m happy to wait. :)

Whatever works best and makes things as smooth as possible! As a solo dev, you've gotta do what's best not only for the people and the project, but also for yourself! It sounds like this would be a cleaner way to do it, and at least now you do have more experience with the past versions, as well as idea frameworks you could still implement from those if you so desire. Excited to see what you do regardless! As someone who has played every version, I'm definitely here for the long haul no matter what direction you go in or how long it takes! Hope it all goes well!

Im glad you took the feedback well. Do what you need, its ultimate your own project you let people play for free! So try not to sweat it *too* much

Don't you worry man, I'm staying with you to see this through! I understand that progress has been slow but I'll keep supporting you even well after you're done!

I really appreciate the transparency, and I think this is great news overall. Really excited to see where things end up. Good luck !!!

Everyone knows a 5-star meal takes a bit of time to cook

I understand what you're saying. I understand where you're coming from. I want to continue to support you. But starting over again is not the solution to the problem. Starting over again IS the problem.

I truly don't want to sound like the one negative voice in here so I wanted to clarify, I guess? You have my support and I'm not going anywhere, but like. You keep saying that 1.3 isn't good enough for public release, but we aren't public release. We're the ones who are supposed to be DOING that testing, in part. I don't care if it's buggy, or broken, or incomplete, I'm here supporting you because I WANT to play it buggy, broken, and incomplete. Otherwise I'd just be waiting for it on itch.io. You can take ten years to release the full game, if that's what it takes, and I'll be there to see it.

I’ll stick around! Even tho I’m mixed on 1.3 I still love the older CCC. So I’m totally ok with a restart that’s better than the previous builds

As admittedly drastic starting over again sounded to me at first, if it means providing an easier development process for you AND allowing us to give our feedback more often with the game basically always being at least playable, I think it might be the right call too. While I'd have loved for us to be able to provide more feedback in past iterations to potentially avoid doing a complete redo, well, the past is the past! I'm still in it for the long haul and I trust your process, and the transparency is awesome as well. I'm excited for the future!

If itll be easier to program and itll give more quality assurance, i dont see an issue at all. Im still in!

Sport Uhrspion

Ok, but only if you promise (I know this will be hard) to not die! (in the next few years).

Sometimes it's easier just to tear down and restart. Thank you for doing what you do.

WildThiccens

Involve a bursting option and we're cool 😈 other than that, hope all is well, and thank you for all you do!

As much as I understand your position, I feel like just giving up and restarting whenever things get difficult just leads nowhere. Please stop scrapping the house before you've even finished the foundation.
