Jake had already noticed it while he and Miranda used the Territory Manipulation menu, but damn, was this world flat. There was no elevation anywhere, no matter which direction Jake looked, no real plants, and nothing besides the unfamiliar short grass covering the ground. Even the soil was the same everywhere, with not even small rocks and the like mixed in. It was incredibly unrealistic, and the rest of the underground wasn’t any better either.

With Pulse, Jake confirmed that the soil continued for roughly five hundred kilometers downwards, where suddenly, one would encounter a perfectly flat wall of stone. This wall of stone then continued downwards all the way to the edge of Jake’s Pulse range, and from the looks of it, could keep going for who-knows-how-long.

There was no water, no caverns, caves, bones, stones, gems, ores, or anything else beneath their feet, making Jake wonder if there really was nothing to be found organically anywhere, or if everything truly had to be bought through the Territory Beacon.

In either case, this world definitely felt incredibly artificial. Almost as if the system – or perhaps more accurately, the Exalted Prima – hadn’t really gone for realism at all. Jake wasn’t necessarily complaining, though. Even without the world seeming fake, everyone seemed to innately realize that everything was a simulation, which did make Jake worry about some things.

Given his instinctual realization that this was all a simulation, would that mess with his Danger Sense, as technically, he was never in danger? Would Moment of the Primal Hunter successfully activate, as, again, no real danger?

There were a lot of unknowns, and Jake hoped that everything would still work as usual, just as it had during the Challenge Dungeons in Nevermore. There, Jake had never been in true danger, yet all his skills had worked exactly as they were supposed to.

As Jake explored, he saw some faint changes in the landscape from the direction he’d traveled, making him smile a little.

Seems like Miranda is already hard at work, he thought to himself, feeling that he’d left the Territory Beacon in good hands.

Continuing onwards, Jake only now realized just how large the Territory truly was. Sure, he had some idea from the Territory Manipulation, but it really hadn’t done the sheer scope justice.

Jake continued to travel for over an hour at full speed before something finally started changing in the distance. Even then, it took Jake another one and a half hours to reach where this change began, as his view distance was quite frankly ludicrous, and that was all while Jake flew relatively close to the ground to ensure he could also scout if anything changed underground.

The change Jake had seen was what appeared to be a mountain range that towered more than a hundred kilometers into the air. The mountains were all huge, and they seemed to form an almost perfect line, creating what was essentially a wall. What’s more, the mountains were covered with an odd fog that severely limited how far Jake could see.

Flying upwards, Jake attempted to peer beyond the mountains, which worked somewhat. His Perception remained nerfed, but it was high enough so that Jake could somewhat brute-force through and still see for several tens of thousands of kilometers beyond the mountain range.

What he saw was another totally barren plain. The mountain range was a few hundred kilometers wide and formed a substantial natural barrier, and Jake quickly guessed that this effectively marked the border between the two Territories.

This felt more or less confirmed when Jake moved forward and encountered a large, invisible wall. Jake couldn’t detect it at all before he was a couple of kilometers from it, and when he closed in and touched it, a system message popped up.

Warning! During the Preparation Phase, you cannot leave your galaxy’s Territory.

So, yeah, Jake had found the border for sure. Of course, he still didn’t know for sure another galaxy’s Territory Beacon was somewhere beyond the plains ahead, but he believed he had a good method to find out.

Continuing to fly upwards, Jake tested the limit for how far up one could go. The sky seemed normal and clear of clouds, making it seem as if he could just fly straight into space if he kept going.

Yet after Jake had made it about two thousand kilometers up, he started to feel a change. Some form of pressure made it harder for him to ascend, as if gravity had suddenly increased. Fighting through it, Jake continued upwards for several thousand kilometers more, with the pressure growing the further up he went.

At around the ten-thousand mark, Jake couldn’t fight against the tidal wave of pressure anymore unless he activated Arcane Awakening. Seeing as he had no intention of doing that, Jake stopped ascending.

And to his surprise, he actually stopped. The moment he didn’t try to continue upwards, the pressure entirely disappeared, and when he tried moving to the side, it felt completely normal. However, if he tried to go upwards just a little, the pressure returned in full force. It was definitely a curious mechanic of this simulated world that gave Jake some idea, but this wasn’t the time for that.

Instead, he used his newfound vantage point to try to see if he could spot anything beyond the mountain range. Unsurprisingly, he couldn’t, at least not using his usual vision.

Fortunately for Jake, he had a way to improve it quite substantially.

Activating Arcane Awakening, Jake felt all his stats spike by 60%, also significantly increasing his view distance. Not 60% further, as there seemed to be some kind of exponential effect on reducing view distance caused by the fog, but he could at least see a good third further than before.

Even then, he failed to spot anything, making him pull out yet another card.

Sight activated as Jake’s Perception experienced an explosive growth, but something else odd happened. Upon activating it, for a mere moment, Jake felt as if he saw countless lines filling the world, but they were gone just as fast as they had appeared.

Jake frowned, but he didn’t have to dwell on this odd phenomenon too much, as he couldn’t keep Sight up forever. Squinting hard and trying to see as far as he could into the distance, Jake finally saw something. It was incredibly difficult to make out, but he believed he saw what appeared to be a small vertical object far in the distance, rising from the otherwise perfectly flat ground.

That’s definitely a Territory Beacon, Jake told himself as he flashed a smile. Just seeing that Beacon gave a lot of information. First of all, the Territory he had been peering into didn’t even have half the radius of his own, assuming the Territories were all circular... which, when he quickly thought about it, they couldn’t be.

The mountain range was a straight line, making him consider whether the Territories were instead square. When he had used the Territory Manipulation, his Territory had seemed circular, but now Jake believed he had actually only seen the current range of the Territory Manipulation. If that was the case, it also made a lot of sense why Jake thought the Territory was much bigger than it had initially appeared.

Either way, Jake didn’t believe that another Territory Beacon would be placed close to a neighboring border, and if the Territories were square, hexagons, octagons, or some other shape like that, it still made the most sense that the neighboring Territory was in the center and as far from the border as it could be. Given that, the smaller size of this neighbor’s Territory meant they had to be a lot weaker than the Milky Way Galaxy. Granted, that was probably most galaxies, but he still felt it was nice to know.

Also, despite not feeling like it was possible, Jake tried to be a little cheeky as he took out his bow and tried to shoot an arrow into the neighboring Territory. As could only be expected, it struck the invisible wall and disappeared into nothingness, confirming that he wasn’t allowed to act like long-range artillery and try to bombard his neighbor during the Preparation Phase.

Boring, but oh well. Jake had a lot more things he needed to check out anyway, including the actual shape of his Territory.

After deactivating Arcane Awakening, Jake started flying along the edge of his Territory, following the straight mountain range. After flying for about an hour, there was a change once more, but not within his Territory. Instead, he came across what he guessed was the border between two other Territories, as the mountain range started extending into the distance in a straight line, forming a T-shape with the existing mountains forming the border of his Territory.

Based on the ninety-degree angle, Jake immediately guessed that all these Territories were square-shaped, and after flying for a few more hours, he pretty much confirmed this as he reached the corner of his Territory. Along the way, he spotted another border separating two Territories, indicating that Jake’s Territory was pretty damn big compared to all his neighbors.

Jake noted down all the information he gathered about his neighbors as he spent most of the following day flying along the edges of his entire Territory, confirming its size while also taking brief breaks to peer into neighboring Territories. Towards the end, he even began to spot what appeared to be substantial terraforming or construction in the last neighbor he scouted, showing that everyone was hard at work.

During his flight, Jake had counted eleven neighboring Territories, all differing in size, but all of them substantially smaller than Jake’s. If not, there was no way eleven could border his Territory, after all.

Also, Jake had hoped that he would encounter another living being also trying to scout the border, but unfortunately, he didn’t spot a single other person. Either the invisible wall hid other Administrators, or no one else had been scouting at the same time as him. That, or they were far too busy dealing with other things and didn’t have the time to spend their entire first day of the Preparation Phase flying in a big square.

With information gathered, Jake headed back towards the Territory Beacon, curious to see what Miranda and the others had been up to during his absence. Fortunately, it didn’t take him long before he spotted something on the horizon, and yeah, if nothing else, they’d sure been productive.

--

As Jake, Miranda, and all the other Administrators from the Milky Way Galaxy entered the World of the Exalted Prima, so did others all across the ninety-third universe. Some entered with initially small Territories, others had huge ones from the beginning, but they all shared one common thing after realizing the nature of this event:

Curiosity, and perhaps a bit of fear, about who their neighbors turned out to be.

The vast majority of galaxies in the new universe were not monolithic, but were instead led by many smaller factions that had barely agreed on a Chief Administrator. Very rarely could one faction conquer an entire galaxy, though often one did have more power than the others, perhaps due to some divine backing.

Having one of these galaxies as your neighbor was generally preferred over finding yourself faced with one of the major factions of the multiverse. Even among these factions, some were feared more than others, though.

The United Tribes were generally not the kind of factions to act as a fully united front in events like these, meaning it was likely that should a galaxy be predominantly controlled by them, that didn’t mean one would effectively have to face the full faction if one got into a conflict. The Nine Hells and Dragonflights were similar in this vein, revealing one of the major weaknesses of a deeply split faction.

In some ways, the Court of Shadows was also like these factions, at least when it came to sparking fear. However, rather than not counterattacking due to a lack of unity, they tended to simply cut their losses when they found themselves in a disadvantageous situation, usually viewing revenge as rather meaningless.

Surprisingly, Valhal also wouldn’t be a bad neighbor... assuming one could beat them, that is. Chances were it would be a tough fight, but should one win, it was well known that Valhal would just accept the loss. Taking revenge for someone who lost an honorable fight would be a disgrace, and they would rather share a drink to remember the fallen who died fighting well.

But then there were factions like the Altmar Empire. Should one invade one of their Territories, one could be damn sure they would try to funnel reinforcements there immediately, and should that not be possible, they would certainly move for what they would call – reparations. Be that in the form of utterly destroying the ones who attacked them first, or merely getting compensated.

Factions like the Pantheon of Life and the Order of the Malefic Viper were also problematic to deal with, but they weren’t the largest factions. Powerful, sure, but their members were limited, and even if they wanted to get revenge, there was at least hope to fly under the radar or be too inconvenient to deal with. Still, one would avoid making them an enemy if at all possible.

And then, there was the worst kind of faction. The kind of factions where fighting just one of their members effectively meant war, where they would pour in whatever resources were necessary to utterly destroy their enemies.

In this camp, one found the usual suspects that everyone wanted to avoid making an enemy of. The Holy Church, Risen, Automatons, and, of course, the Endless Empire. These factions were all massive and incredibly powerful, and they were by far the most vengeful. Factions like the Holy Church also always moved with the assumption that they were morally in the right and that even if they exterminated someone who had only fought to defend themselves, they were in the right. To deny the Holy Church was a sinful act in itself, after all.

Finally, there were the factions that simply made everyone hesitate. The odd ones that were powerful, yes, but equally weird and unpredictable. The Primordial Church fell under this umbrella; its members were usually seen as fanatical and sometimes even insane, which made it rare for them to organize and take over as the dominant faction, but it had happened in a few places where one or more particularly powerful figures had taken control in the name of the Primordials.

Powerful, smaller individual factions associated with certain gods were also included here. Small factions controlled by Void Followers, followers of Eversmile, Aeon, Stormild, and many others who didn’t usually have big factions, but still had representation within this system event. No one fully knew their agenda or how they would act if provoked, making everyone vary.

Oh, and of course, there was perhaps the most enigmatic yet powerful faction in the entire multiverse:

The Dao Sect.

A faction that rarely got involved in any kind of conflict, but mostly stuck to itself, even avoiding interacting with other factions for diplomatic purposes. However, that did not mean weakness.

In fact, if there was one faction that even the Holy Church, Risen, Altmar Empire, Automatons, and Endless Empire would avoid getting into conflict with, it was the Dao Sect. Because whenever they had entered conflicts, it tended to end very swiftly. In nearly all cases, the other party would surrender when met with overwhelming power, and, as the mostly peaceful faction they were, the Dao Sect would accept the surrender and let bygones be bygones. Unless someone went too far, that is. In those few cases, the factions that crossed the line made history.

All this knowledge of the multiversal factions was what everyone entered the World of the Exalted Prima operating based on. It was what they used to plan. However, perhaps they all seemed to forget one important thing:

This was all a simulation. The usual rules and norms of the multiverse could be bent here, as death was not a true factor. Truly offending other factions by killing their members was impossible. Given that, what stopped the many factions from truly fighting with all they had? What stopped the geniuses of this generation from truly battling things out and learning from one another?

In some ways, wasn’t that the greatest boon of this simulation? The ability to battle those who stood at the forefront of the generation in true duels to the death without actually risking killing one another? An invaluable opportunity for sure...

One that perhaps even the most peaceful and usually passive factions would be willing to embrace, as they were known to enjoy spars.

Rules and norms of the multiverse loosened? This really is going to get wild fast once the prep phase is done.

Boring, flat and fake green? Ouch! No wonder she’s your ex…..

Arrogant Savant

I have to wonder if the system itself setup the simulation aspect where they can kill each other without consequence as a primer to make them kill each for real later.

Suzanne Pearson

Can’t wait for the appearance of the Dao Sect! lol. Hope Jake’s sense of impending death comes back before he fights them……

Or... creates a way for elites to battle without the system losing valuable resources.

Well played to you too. I expected a fool's joke when I noticed your comment and read expecting a "just kidding".

I have a felling the Dao sect gonna have some guy with holy church like powers and is gonna piss off Jake. Everyone will be mulipulated accept for Jake.

This is going to be off the charts. I’m so looking forward to some amazing fight scenes.

AoE2 YouTube content suggests, the scrubs will band together to attack the high elo players who ignore the social aspect of the game. Some of the scrubs will be tempted to join the super powers because, "hey you will be their next target once they finish me." Alliances will reform. Defeat will be snatched from the Jaws of victory. In the end, scrubs will get no love unless they play the entire game with the intention of backstabbing their teammates with trebuchet and horse archers.

TFTC :) Suggested edits: Just a general one moving forward but, maybe occasionaly vary the word territory/territories. Area, range, domain, protectorate, region, zone, sector, demense. Theres a bunch. Maybe its just used a lot atm because Jake is exploring. You know me and using the same word repetitively. "detect it ** all before he was a couple" missing word "at" "to go upwards just a *tiny little*, the" odd wording. Should be either "tiny bit" or just "little"

Miotara

With all the foreshadowing so far, my guess is the big antagonist for Jake during this event will be the Eastbound Monk. We know nothing about him so I'm looking forward to Jake fighting him. I bet the monk has an unusual way of fighting and Jake who is straightforward will most likely struggle

Morazain

Ah spas and exchange pointers.

zran

Viewing angle, what you can potentially able to see depends on the view angle you have, the higer the less stuff can obstruct your view in longer distances

Miotara

Interesting event, I wonder what happens to the people of the galaxies that lose their territory beacon. Do they get kicked out of the event or are they assimilated to whatever galaxy beat them? What if that galaxy doesn't want them? I don't reckon many people would want defeated people that could stab them in the back whenever they get an opportunity. My bet is whichever galaxy loses they lose the ability to compete further in the event and the winner is whichever galaxy never lost their beacon so only one galaxy wins. That would also defeat the purpose of alliances though so I'm probably off with my guess

Episode 19

Damn, Zog teased us, was really hoping Jake would snipe the neighboring beacons just for funnsies Tyftc

I’m looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. Jake will bombard from ultra long range to capture the first territory I’m going to go ahead and say it now. No fighting just boop and it’s done. Then once that hilariousness is over the real fighting can begin. I hope we get some epic multi part fighting chapters

I think that the loser Galaxy falls under the dominion of the winner and the winner can decide on a person by person basis who they banish and who they keep, because the Chief Administrator can revoke Administrator Titles.

Lambda

I agree I'm looking forward to the ruling on this, and I get the feeling the ruling will probably be appropriately complicated

Fyrtue

My guess would be only 'death' will kick you out once your territory is conquered because you won't have a spawn point. This would mean survivors can either pledge to a different territory or conquer one themselves to have a way to come back in.

David

I'm sure it will heavily involve soul powers/attacks from the Monk, which Jake should be fairly resilient against. Especially after a few attacks and he gets a handle on the attacks

Prospects

Fr, the Eastbound Monk is going to be a menace.

Prospects

I expect some heinous war crimes to be on Jake’s itinerary for this event, releasing some plagues or toxic natural disasters would only be polite after all.

Fyrtue

I pity the opportunistic fool that interrupts any fight he's enjoying.

Sammot

Oh yeah i reallly wanna see that!

Sammot

Ohh did jake see the true structure of the simulation for a moment!

definitelynotbrjenness

lose and you're completely out is possible, but that sucks for the scrubs. alternative is giving the admins a chance to earn more PP by joining the conquering faction. letting them join anybody other than the team that beat them seems unlikely. whichever way zog goes, the losers will have to earn rewards for contribution if they are to be trusted.

Bookreader97

That height ceiling is huge and a good foreshadowing. Hypothetically, if Jake can get to a a high enough point that only true geniuses can get up to him he can travel horizontally to every single faction and bombard their pylon and they wouldn’t be able to stop him

definitelynotbrjenness

I must visit the halls of T90 and review the recordings of community games before I make my prediction.

Josie

If the beacon can be moved, it may be worth putting it on a floating island above a thick layer of clouds with a healthy number of decoys both in the sky and on/in the ground. Hmm..

Bookreader97

Won’t Jake’s universe eventually have to go up against syplhies, silent king, SS, etc

Daniel

Jake sounds like the antagonist atm, tbh.

Wselby64

Im guessing he will go against atleast one of his companions atleast once I'm guessing it will be the sword saint cuz they are both chosen now and they have both been saying to want a rematch for forever and now they don't need to worry about killing each other

Daniel Hamilton

This is pretty cool, i’m curious if you can also use the points to spend on elements as well as concept such as space, the void, time etc. That could really change the battlefield. 1. Control movement (space + gravity + time and added elements etc.) 2. Force pathing (choke points) 3. Delay everything (time-to-target) 4. Weaken constantly (attrition) 5. Finish instantly (kill zone) 6. They can also create a labyrinth and dedicate it to the legion God ( be a pretty fun interaction afterwards when Jake tells him he made labyrinth dedicated after him, after all, he has a lot of experience in them now)

Lemonsqueezy

This is giving me the same vibes that were in Dungeon Crawler Carl: The Inevitable Ruin book. The faction wars scenario on floor 10 (the last book as of now in the series), but set in the MineCraft universe with how flat and square everything is. A lot of RTS gaming structure you see in games like StarCraft and Warcraft of the 90s and early 2000s as well. My ADHD is making me impatient with the slow build we are currently experiencing. When the preparation phase ends I am expecting that we are going to see a lot of action in the beginning as the very strong galaxies like the Milky Way take over these small territories. Then a grind as the major powerhouses fight for control eventually ending in a one on one or maybe a multifaceted battle between a couple at once. At this point, I expect several groups to align together to take on Jake. However, Jake has a lot of close allies in these other factions. Other galaxies controlled by the Order, Endless Empire allying because of Vespa. Things like that.

Daniel Hamilton

Because it’s a simulation does that mean he can use his Jake juice and push his bloodline to play with it and discoverer more about it without any of the downsides?

Chad

Any thoughts on the eastbound monk having some simulation breaking ability because of the warning Vesperia got from the dragonfly hive queen about making sure to steer clear of him no matter what?

Daniel Hamilton

And if he can use his boosting skill to even push further…

Daniel Hamilton

I think it’s going to come in to play down the line and he’ll be able to learn some universal truth. See behind the vail so to speak and do some impossible manipulation to his advantage.

Joken

I think we just got another pointer that his new B grade conflict might be with the Dao Sect.

Fyrtue

Another random thing I'm excited to read about is Vesperia's royal guards meeting Jake for the first time.

definitelynotbrjenness

there once was chosen with the name of jake. he declared, this seat, I will take. with a face of wood and eyes that glow taking to the air, he pulled his bow. yoho watch the bully boy go. on wings of a dragon, he flew to and fro. yoho, watch the bully boy go dropping nukes on those far below inside the bound god, anger did grow. the cheat ruined the game and all would know a solution he searched far and wide nothing worked no matter what he tried yoho, watch the bully boy go on wings of a dragon flying to and fro yoho watch the bully go dropping nukes on those far below yoho the bully boy jake, in the end, the seat, he did take.

Fyrtue

I don't think he'd bombard the big factions. If only because he'd rather just have a good fight with them instead.

Jimbo

So, are there re-spawns? Or if you die, you're out?

Jimbo

And SS can use his full Transcendant power without any real drawback in a simulation

Nexas Aurelias

I wouldnt ber suprised if you can acquire respawns but from what was in the last chapter it sounds like its a one and done thing

Jimbo

I wonder if you can spend points to respawn specific folks.

Jamaal Hill

It'll be interesting to see if they actually end up fighting each other. There could also be a scenario where they work alongside each other as they have in other system events like the treasure hunt or prima guardian. Could be a bad time for the monk

Rewdan

They’ll be that one guy from the court of shadows

Rewdan

No sect could complain as it’s in a simulation 🤣🤣🤣

Colton Horton

I applaud you good Sir! I heard the music playing in my head the entire time!

Jamaal Hill

He also already said his goal was to upgrade eternal shadow. Not sure what direction he'll take it in but sure whatever he learns about simulations will play a role

Rune Reader 99

If I recall correctly, it was mentioned in an earlier chapter that if you died in the simulation you would be barred from reentering for 30 days or longer based on the circumstances of your death.

Hockadooled

I’m really excited to see if we get to see a all out Miranda, or if they even need to. Jake and her make a scary combo, her being an absolute wall, and Jake being an absolute spear. They aren’t an easy combo to deal with. Especially with what sounds like her being able to modify the territory to her benefits.

InfernoDroid

He does enjoy his war crimes

InfernoDroid

I kinda hope we see Jake go all in on curses within the simulation, you know to .... understand his sin curse better, to.... upgrade it, yea, to upgrade it, not because I wanna see what Jake can do when he doesn't care about the consequences, no definitely not that, who would want that.

Corvid

Awwww yeah, another Jake vs. Eron or Miranda vs. Eron is back on the table! Everyone knows how much fun and excitement comes from dueling against a top MMR healer, best 27 minutes of your life.

Corvid

Pretty sure she promised that the empire would support his faction in the event, same with the pantheon of life. Be fun to see though, as long as they didn't immediately go "Ohhhh Sire-senpai please use us how you wish and give the patting of the head mother spoke of UwU"

Corvid

Yeah I promise I'm definitely not in a midi editor right now trying to make a backtrack for this little ditty

Corvid

That makes me happy honestly. I mean what good is a wuxia inspired litrpg story without baldies to smack around. Ever since nevermore I've wanted to see him fight the cursed speech user Inumaki.... I mean whatever that girl who wouldn't talk was

Corvid

Faction wars is floor 9, but I agree completely. Also, if you didn't already know this, Matt's patreon has this neat little epub for A Parade of Horribles

PathOfPen

Jake should try to upgrade his one step one thousand miles skill. It’s been a while, and faster movement will help conquer territory faster

Corvid

We used to play Risk a lot back in the day on my friend's game night, and I tended to dominate it. We had to ban it because it got to the point where they would all just immediately gang up on me to take me out from spite. It would be absolutely hilarious if all of his friends did the same thing. Prep phase ends and suddenly Jake is dogpiled by Carmen, Caleb, Golden King, and so on. Though I bet SS would actually jump in to help Jake so the two of them can have a proper duel now that Miyamoto has that chosen juice. Sylphie could go either way, but whichever she chooses Wintermaul would simp for her and go that way too. "Reee!" "What do you mean m'lady? What is this smelly pot technique!?"

Martin Roberge

Jake unleashing a devastating cursed plague over the simulated world would indeed be catastrophic, after all we know the without morals Jake would absolutely be a monster.

Rob Lyon

Sounds like a good place to play with plagues

ChRiAn

Curious to see the diplomatic options, there have to be some

Rob Lyon

@Daniel Hamilton no I don't think so because if you'll remember the challenge dungeons were also simulations and when he pushed his bloodline over the edge against Valdemir he still had consequences in the outside world. Now I could still see him doing that especially at the end of this arc and a big battle but I have a feeling he'll have to suffer the consequences on the other end

Brian Schutt

Not related to the story at all, but I saw the pic of NA on the fandom. I low key get it Yggy. He kinda got it.

definitelynotbrjenness

I will not complain if both jake and ss retreat from combat with eastbound instead of going all out and then William discovers he is a hard counter to the monks Buddhist voodoo. acceptable endings: monk congratulates William and proves to be a cool dude we want to see more of monk flips out, "don't you know who I am? a nobody like you shouldn't be able to beat me.... blah, blah, blah

definitelynotbrjenness

oooohhhh... Arnold lied about not being in the event and was working on something for it...

Josie

Maybe Jake can spend this prep time making his territory wildly toxic/poisonous (thanks Venus 😘) and only give the antidote to his admins. Besides that, Miranda has defense covered i think

Fyrtue

I know. I'm just interested to see how they interact since they're not drones and have their own path.

Demonshadow639

Uh so I guess the do sect are just a bunch of battle junkies

I remember the warning but It's unclear of his abilities. Maybe they are a direct counter to a hive Queen in non simulate worlds. But that could have changed in this world.

Hayden Leech

More like… enlightenment junkies Valhal are the battle crazy guys

Joken

I think it’s gonna be the eastbound monk…

Jeff McCulley

He has more credits than (likely) anyone else. And will earn more as he adds territories.

Jeff McCulley

I’m not sure he’s going to have to worry a whole bunch about defense. Especially after all of his allies join and add their territories.

Jeff McCulley

Who did you think told him about Venus? Because there was no one else around to tell him. But no, unless that was an android, he wasn’t at the System Administrator event.

Jeff McCulley

The first day of competition: “Oh shit, we’re next to YOU?!! Surrender!”

definitelynotbrjenness

yeah. I agree, but thought it would be funny if he had lied. Zog did mention the void faction but I think it more likely Arnold was working on something they are going to need real soon according to oras, who I assume told Arnold about Venus. the void god either saw it or villy jokingly gave him shit for his disciple sending jake into trouble. arnold would be a holy terror in this event. maybe the system bribed him not to participate?

definitelynotbrjenness

does it say anywhere that you get kicked out if your pylon goes down?

Chad

Maybe that warning was just a huge red herring. Depending on if they’d already guessed the event would be a simulation or not. If I ain’t mistaken we know Villy (and Jake?) had that assumption before it kicked off

J W

So the competition begins and eleven overpowered arrows are shot in different directions and Jake extends his territory.

atome 4 000

The moment he didn’t try to continue upwards, the pressure entirely disappeared, and when he tried moving to the side, it felt completely normal. However, if he tried to go upwards just a tiny little, the pressure returned in full force. Let me bet, he will go as far upward as he can while using arcane awakening and once he reached the new limit, he can rest at this altitude and then start bombarding without the risk of being attacked back. I would guess the way for his peer to counteract that strategy would be to go as high as they can and place a way of teleporting there in case of need, and just place it higher when they get stronger.

Author Azraeil

This is the way. I imagine if his pillar gets wiped he will be doing this and using event horizon to just be an untouchable menace.

Biggy smalls

I mean it kind of is. I'd imagine large factions like the HC will put their credits into a giant Coffer that the Holy Son's chosen and to a lesser extent Jacob will be in charge of spending on behalf of their whole faction. That's a crap ton of credits. then they will likely expand once the event starts.

Scott

Jake is 100% dying this arc in a sort of humbling duel against a dao sect member.

Seen Death

Small typo: "No one fully knew their agenda or how they would act if provoked, making everyone vary." > ...making everyone wary Tyfc!

2026-09-05 04:00 Anyone think Miranda will orient their territory to be a giant ritual? She’s basically Batman- give her prep time and she’s a beast lol

Wondering if it’ll be a AoE kind of simulation? Where they have to house troops and maintain farms lol that’d be pretty cool. Do you think a galaxy dominated by the order will defer to Jake and ally themselves or maybe see it as opportunity for a promotion and try to take him out? We might also see some loyalties tested. A lot of people back Jake despite having the backing of gods who are represented by their own factions. Maybe none of that since it’s all simulated but the narrative possibilities are fun to speculate about

Sword Saint battle part 2 is going to happen. Maybe a battle with Carmen?

boffadeez

Good point she could theoretically prep the entire thing yikes

Corac

Oh man I would love to read that. Even if it was only 1 or 2 territories.

Ron Whitlatch

Unfortunately carmen is still not at his level. Unless she became a chosen too at some point? I know it was on the table fs

hackulater

I kinda Jake tried to shoot an arrow at another galaxies territory beacon with unseen hunter active lol.

Sushitrash

He's a bit slow so I doubt he'll think about it any time soon

ABTelford

I think, maybe, I got the hint of big fights coming up. Maybe. 😉

Crystal Petrosky

So, since Jake accessed the Gates of Enlightenment in C grade, wouldn't that make them more friendly/respectful towards him?

I love these explanatory chapters like this 😍 I mean don't get me wrong, I also love the battle scenes, (Which I Feel are soon coming to pass), and when there all just talking. But it's these detailed chapters i love most because honestly Zogarths Attention to detail is second to none. Amazing Job Mate! Ya Boi Matt. L
