As with every other area in the World of the Exalted Prima, Jake discovered there was a limitation on how high one could fly within what he’d dubbed the palace gardens. If one went up too far, the same pressure that could be found in the Territories would appear, though it kicked in far quicker, likely due to the limited size of the palace gardens compared to the utterly massive area containing all the Territories.

Not to say this place was small. After flying into the air and getting a better look at things, Jake could only vaguely detect more spatial distortion far in the distance, towards where he could clearly see the palace. The perspective felt all wrong, as if he were looking through some kind of lens, but Jake felt fairly confident that, should one travel far enough in the direction of the palace, one would find yet another barrier leading into another area. Likely the walled-off city he could see surrounding the palace, though that would certainly also be way larger in scope than it appeared from the outside.

Feeling his two Hunter’s Marks, Jake suddenly felt the connection to one of them change, making him frown. It was Jasper’s that had suddenly gotten a lot weaker, and when he looked towards where the small guy was, he realized Planeswarper had just claimed a treasure, or at least tried to.

“Something akin to what happened in the desert?” Jake wondered, recalling when he’d tried to take a treasure there and instantly found himself surrounded by enemies. It was something that happened often in the desert, though in most cases, Jake and company just snuck into an ongoing fight to steal away treasures.

Despite being sealed off, Jake wasn’t worried about Jasper, but instead felt compelled to also get moving himself as Jake dove towards the ground where his Sense of the Malefic Viper had a powerful response. Shortly after, he landed in the middle of a flower bed, surrounded by the stalks of flowers that looked more like massive trees from down on the ground. Jake felt like an ant... no, not even an ant. More like a flea navigating a world of giants, with everything just being way too damn big.

The entire vibe was ruined when Jake stumbled upon a rather normal-sized golden flower sitting in the soil between the massive plants. It was still a little big, standing taller than Jake. It looked a lot like a sunflower with seven leaves, each leaf filled with intricate runic carvings. If he didn’t know otherwise, Jake wouldn’t even have clocked it as a plant at first, but believed it to be an actual gold sculpture.

“I guess it’s time to see what happens when you try to claim a treasure,” Jake shrugged as he walked over and put a hand on the flower. He had expected a blast of spatial energy to seal him off from everyone else or a barrier to appear, but it turned out it wasn’t the environment being moved or changed.

It was the person trying to take away a treasure.

The second Jake laid hands on the treasure, his vision shifted, and immediately he found himself standing in a golden field of flowers, all of them looking like the seven-leafed sunflower from before.

Jake frowned as he confirmed the new area he found himself in. He didn’t even need to use a Pulse of Perception as his sphere was large enough to encompass the entire world he’d been transported to. It was only about fifty meters across before one would hit what Jake suspected to be a system-made impenetrable wall. He didn’t detect any way out as far as he could tell, meaning he was very much trapped.

“Oddly small world. Wonder what I’m meant to do here to leave,” Jake muttered to himself as he tried to float slightly into the sky... only to find himself unable to. In fact, when he finally moved his body, he came to realize that he could barely move at all.

Alarmed, Jake felt the state of his own body, wondering if his stats had been lowered like in the Colosseum of Mortals or anything like that, but no, his state was perfectly normal. Admittedly, that shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Jake would have definitely noticed if he’d lost all his stats. That still made things incredibly odd, though.

Raising a hand, Jake tried to summon some arcane energy. His hand glowed with energy for a brief moment before his mana got snuffed out and disappeared into nothing. Now truly perplexed, he attempted to use Arcane Awakening, and while he briefly felt the skill activate, it was instantly suppressed before it had the chance to do anything.

Even just moving, Jake effectively had the speed of a regular human, maybe slightly faster at most. The only thing that remained wholly unaffected was his Bloodline-related abilities, which didn’t seem like they would help much, given the small space he found himself in.

“Wonder how Sandy would do in a place like this,” Jake continued to mutter to himself, questioning just how screwed the worm would be. Wouldn’t their body alone fill up the entire space? Or would the worm be forcibly shrunk? If they were, would Sandy still be able to float or be forced to crawl on the ground? Many questions, none of which mattered given his current situation. It did make him a little more worried about Jasper, as the little guy could find himself in a similar situation, though fortunately, he could still feel his two Hunter’s Marks.

Looking around, Jake tried to figure out what he was meant to do, which was fortunately when the system just decided to tell him. He heard a faint ringing sound above him, making Jake look up into a blue sky where the clouds had all moved to form words.

Find the 7 seven-leafed flowers and offer them to the sky as you bask in the golden light.

Jake instantly questioned what it meant by the last line of that sentence, but he quickly got his answer as the clouds all evaporated, and a glowing orb of golden flames, looking like a sun, appeared instead.

Instantly, Jake was hit with a wave of heat, reminding him of the desert outside. It was roughly at the level of the outer sections of the desert close to the jungle, making it more than manageable. For now, anyway. While it was subtle, Jake felt all the surrounding flowers slightly channeling energy into the orb in the sky, slowly empowering it over time, effectively putting Jake on a timer.

He also had to make a retraction. Earlier, Jake had said that due to the small size of this area, his sphere was pretty much useless. Well... that wasn’t really the case if he was meant to find some flowers there, now was it?

Not having any desire to be under another hot, burning orb for longer than he had to after just leaving the desert, Jake went ahead and started collecting flowers, having already located all seven of them immediately. He also tried to collect some additional flowers just to see what would happen. They could be picked, and out of sheer curiosity, Jake wondered what would happen if one broke or ruined a flower. Well, that at least wasn’t a concern, as they all appeared to be entirely indestructible, meaning there probably was some way to cheese this test.

Ways that didn’t include having an overpowered Bloodline, that is.

It didn’t take more than a couple of minutes before Jake stood with a fistful of seven-leafed flowers, which he promptly held up towards the sky as he spoke in a bored tone. “I did it.”

Right as he said this, though likely not actually due to him speaking, the flowers all turned into golden light and flew towards the orb, which proceeded to explode with blinding light. Jake lost his vision for a moment, and when it returned, he found himself standing back on the flower bed, the giant golden flower now gone, replaced with a small golden sunflower in his hand.

Something that in itself was incredibly notable, as any item that hadn’t immediately turned into Prima Credits had been of significance in this event so far, be it the Ritual Sacrifice Dagger to unlock a hidden vault or the pearls to better deal with the desert.

Naturally, Jake used Identify on his flower, the result making him raise an eyebrow.

[Seven-Leafed Golden Flower of Abundance (Unique)] – A Golden Flower with seven leaves found within the Palace of Abundance gardens. Can be instantly converted into 7290 Prima Credits or used within the Palace of Abundance for even greater rewards.

First of all, that was a lot of  Credits right there. Not the most he’d seen, but definitely in the top three, instantly hammering home that the Central Domain definitely had superior rewards, and he was already looking forward to what better stuff could be found closer to, or within, the Palace of Abundance.

As for the option of keeping the item for greater rewards within the Palace of Abundance, it was naturally a no-brainer. The last time he talked with Miranda, she’d made it clear that their financial situation was great, so there was no need to instantly convert it into Prima Credits. Better keep it around and hopefully cash in a far superior reward once he found a use for the item within the Palace of Abundance itself.

With his first treasure found, Jake instantly moved on towards the next response from Sense of the Malefic Viper, not wanting to be inferior to Sandy and Jasper. Sandy had clearly also found a treasure and had been transported somewhere, and Jasper remained gone, likely not able to instantly cheese his trial the same way Jake had.

Soon, Jake reached his next target, which was yet another golden sunflower-looking plant, though this one only had five leaves. As with last time, Jake reached out and touched it, instantly transporting him elsewhere.

He found himself in yet another golden field of flowers, though this time around he wasn’t alone and was in a far larger world-space. This field of flowers extended for well-over a thousand kilometers in all directions, and about a hundred kilometers ahead of him stood a single large tree monster.

[Golden Treant of Abundance – lvl 375]

A classic treant, and seeing as this trial had been nice enough to transport him into this small world without even notifying his opponent, Jake quickly entered stealth. The result from there should be rather obvious.

You have slain [Golden Treant of Abundance – lvl 375] – Bonus experience earned for killing an enemy above your level

One arrow was enough to send Jake back to the garden once more, where he claimed his second flower. This one was quite a bit worse, though.

[Five-Leafed Golden Flower of Abundance (Unique)] – A Golden Flower with five leaves found within the Palace of Abundance gardens. Can be instantly converted into 810 Prima Credits or used within the Palace of Abundance for even greater rewards.

While it had definitely been a lot easier to get – again, assuming one couldn’t cheese the first trial as Jake had – it did give far fewer Prima Credits when consumed, indicating its value was far worse. He also believed he was starting to see a pattern in how many Credits these flowers gave based on their leaves, but he needed more than two data points to confirm.

Fortunately, there were plenty more flowers to claim.

His next one came after a trial that once more included combat, where Jake had to destroy a group of four plant monsters. They were easily disposed of, getting Jake a flower with six leaves this time around.

[Six-Leafed Golden Flower of Abundance (Unique)] – ... converted into 2430 Prima Credits or used within the Palace of Abundance for even greater rewards.

With that, Jake more or less confirmed how the value of these flowers worked, though he did pick up more, making him even more sure. The next one especially proved his theory and was by far the easiest to get.

[Three-Leafed Golden Flower of Abundance (Unique)] – ... 90 Prima Credits or used within the Palace of Abundance...

For this three-leafed flower, Jake didn’t even have to undergo a real trial. He simply put his hand on the plant, and when he did so, he felt it resist his attempt to claim it. After a battle of wills that lasted approximately sixty-two milliseconds, the flower lost and shrank to fit in Jake’s hand.

With four data points, Jake was also certain how these flowers worked. While he wasn’t confident that a one-leafed flower existed, if it did, it would be convertible into 10 Prima Credits. A two-leafed would then be 30, a three-leafed was confirmed to be 90, and then 270 for four, and so on and so forth. In other words, it would triple for every leaf added. This pattern had seemed obvious from the get-go, and it really wasn’t surprising as the system loved tripling stuff.

“Wonder how many flowers there are,” Jake said after putting away the three-leafed one. Right then, he also felt that Jasper had turned to the same dimension as him, meaning the little thief had likely succeeded in whatever trial he was undergoing. Sandy had also done a trial earlier and had entered a new one.

Having experienced two trials that required combat, Jake was a little worried about how the two would do, but it seemed like they were handling things despite not being fighters. Maybe they had gotten lucky, or perhaps the trials offered by the treasures were somewhat individualized, so one wouldn’t get an impossible test. Telling those two to fight a powerful B-grade would be the same as Jake getting a trial that required him to give a public speaking on social etiquette... technically possible, but it would be miserable and take way too damn long.

Shaking his head, Jake headed off towards an even stronger response than any prior he’d picked up with Sense of the Malefic Viper. It had just entered his range of detection and was still outside even his Pulse range, but he nevertheless rushed over, wanting to claim it before anyone else got the chance to. Not that he had much competition right now, but better safe than sorry.

It didn’t take him long to reach his destination as he ignored everything else along the way, including a six-leafed golden flower that would probably have been worth stopping for. At least he thought so until he finally reached his target.

The golden flower was well hidden beneath several massive leaves that seemed to have some magic to further obscure what was inside. Making his way through the large leaves, Jake landed on the ground in front of the flower, and when he saw it, his eyes opened wide.

Not only was it larger than any he’d come across before, but it also had more than seven leaves. Not even eight, but nine of them. Going by the pattern, and seeing as there were nine... wouldn’t that be worth over 65,000 Prima Credits? That was a serious amount for one treasure.

It wasn’t even a question what Jake would do next as he reached out and put a hand on the flower, ready to face whatever challenge it would cook up for him. As with every other time besides the three-leafed one, his vision shifted as he found himself in a new space, and as soon as he did, he felt something.

From behind, a familiar, powerful aura washed over him. One capable of giving him pause, surpassing both the Behemoth and Archfiend by a noticeable margin. Jake slowly turned his head as the person spoke in a casual tone.

“How coincidental to run into you here.”

Gold forest king

"that rewards from this area of the Central Domain definitely had superior rewards" -> I think there are too many "rewards" here.

definitelynotbrjenness

Familiar, but someone who possibly wants to fight Jake this early in the competition. Guessing not a friend, but someone he has met before. Dragon princess comes to mind, but it seems to early. Wintermaul? Fatespeaking monk? Tempted to list all the ones I don't want it to be. Obvious preference is one of HC people. Final guess... Arnold. He pulled a Minaga when he said, 'I will not participate"

Josie

Oh. Hey, Sim Cheeto... 🏹

Matt

Maybe the monk

definitelynotbrjenness

I'm thinking too early for both if it is a duel to the death. Unless Demon says, "for what you have done, I cede you victory." Which pisses Jake off and he says, " fight or I'm not coming to the wedding." I guess it would be a good time to make Jake take an L and have to make a comeback. Doesn't seem to be Zog's style.

Sword Saint?!?!?!? I can't think of many people would react like that upon meeting Jake.

Rewdan

It’s Tom

Loststar7

TFTC and happy Wednesday Minor correction needed. Five-Leafed Golden Flower of Abundance (Unique)] – A Golden Flower with seven leaves

Siethrobo

@brjenness why would it be to early? This is entire event is simulated (hell the simulated challenge could be a copy of Orange Jerk) and Jake's territory isn't under threat, he's probably already collected the required credits from the central domain. IMO this arc is set up in a way to LET JAKE LOSE (I don't think he can use what he used against valdemar, since it used primeval energy so he's just de-simulate himself) to someone then come back with new tricks and a plan.

Blake N.

I also saw that. Good eye as always

Blake N.

I don’t think he’s met the monk, so it wouldn’t be a familiar aura

Blake N.

Five-Leafed Golden Flower of Abundance (Unique)] – A Golden Flower with seven leaves found within the Palace of Abundance gardens. -Change seven to five

definitelynotbrjenness

Too early for pinnacle fight unless it's the start of a long string of fights. But Jake taking a loss as I said in the second paragraph, is my true preference.

Niels Valkenborgh

I presume he put the monk as a foil for this arc because fantasy monks usually deflect arrows and martial arts beat someone fighting on instinct, but that fight seems a bit too early yeah. But it's a simulation, so it could be anyone. The reason I thought about the Sword Saint is because of the heavy summer theme here.

I agree, I figured either Sandy(sometimes he talks very polite and other times he talks like a 10-year-old) or maybe Swordsaint based on manners is all…..the aura thing being super powerful is all going to be a matter of scale though I guess.

Dan

I'm guessing it's either Eron, Sword Saint, or the Eastbound Monk and they ave to duel for the flower. Unless it's simulated from his past, in which case, will we get our bitch boy Ell'Cunt back for a whole day while Jake wrecks his shit again?

P A J

I think its either Eron, Forest King, or The Sword Saint. Personally a rematch against the Sword Saint is a long time coming imo, but any of them would be fun to see especially since I doubt any of them would be willing to give up this treasure. Although if its the Sword Saint it would be rather underwhelming if their rematch occurred over any item less than Divine Rarity

Zach138

Don't think Jake has met the East Bound Monk, a very powerful aura that surpassed Behemoth, and Archfiend, and is familiar, but gives Jake pause. In a plant based objective. Is it the Golden King.... this feels like the King.

Zach138

I'm betting it's the King to many signals for it.

Gracie

tftc! 🌻🏰🏹 I think it might be sim nature's attendant. dont ask me why. Just following my gut. but since I dont have an op bloodline it's probably wrong.

djthomp

Flower collecting, palpating for a garden. So a noticeably powerful aura and its familiar to Jake already. I see the Sword Saint and the King have been suggested already so I'm going with Jacob as my guess.

Matt

Gotta be The Sword Saint

Miotara

It said strong familiar aura so it can't be the Eastbound monk as I don't think Jake has really felt his aura before. My guess is the Sword Saint. I don't think it's the forest king, I feel like he would have thrown an insult in his greeting somewhere if it was him xD

zran

Probably the one he will fight against is either the sword saint or carmen since both got teased before the event, but i will put my money on carmen, imo i think jake vs the SS will happen when they are at the palace proper

zran

Neither, likely its carmen

Staudi

Tyftc!

Medicine Man

Wait, he should be with Caleb and he would have said 2 familiar auras. Ok, not sword saint.

Siethrobo

Only a couple people have a strong familiar aura and would say "how coincidental to run into you here". Sword Saint, Demon Prince, Vesperia or Casper doing a bit are the only people doing the event I can think of. Carmen would have said 'Hey Jerk!' Sylphie would have said Reeee! HOWEVER, this is a simulation so it could be ANYONE Jake has met if the simulation extracted from his memories and records. We're talking First Sage (prob not though because even with a grade difference First Sage low diffs Jake in an actual fight), El'Hakkan, Minaga, even a lower grade copy of Viridian (that would be out of left field but it does match the way she talks to Jake).

Medicine Man

Should've been a Friday Cliff Hanger, but computer broke...

Siethrobo

I totally forgot about the Forest King. The last line matches him most of any character (maybe excluding Minaga). However, he is notoriously slow for someone of his strength. I don't see him being one of the first to reach this area.

Phil Ritter

Nah not for that little Prima Credits. If it’s Tom Jake’s time in the Palace is over

Bobtur

Golden F’ing King ?

CocoaBleu

Ok, so a lot of people have given different guesses, but I am going to go a different dirrection… based on the fact that the aura was familiar, strong and he is in the palace of abundance… who is the king of abundance??? I am guessing the mistery person is Eron 🤔

Elijah Reitmeier

I’m thinking it’s Jacob. “Coincidental” seems aligned with what he would say. Probably with warning about the Dao

jb qspam

Draskill doesn’t give Jake pause. Sword-Saint?

HDHusky

Nah, said the aura was familiar. Jake has never met Eastbound Monk. My guess is either King or Sword Saint.

JP

It could also be an NPC or image. As this is plant-themed maybe an image of Nature's attendant or something?

NG's granddaughter. from nevermore team... drawing a blank on her name

Blake N.

I think Jake and sword saint finally get that rematch and this time they don’t have to stop before the kill

definitelynotbrjenness

it's silphie. she started speaking so she could tell wintermaul to f off

InfernoDroid

Probably not actually a real person, but a copy of someone not in the trials

Black Leg Sanji

I was also thinking it was Dina but I don't think she's taking part in this event

Ryan Buck

B-grade sim Villy is my guess

ThatGuy

My bet is an image of a god. Not someone competing in the event

SpectreHarlequin

It also has to be someone much stronger than the Behemoth, there's only a few of Jake's friends that meet that. My guess is the Sword Saint.

Rahsheem Reid

I want a rematch also but securing the world wonder Earth should be the main priority. They can go to a random planet and spar later or once this is finished they should be able to use the WW to fight it out without any repercussions.

Jared Dreher

Not the forest king, the quotes aren’t in his thoughts/italics based on his prior communications. Maybe sword saint? But honestly I think we are likely to see someone we haven’t seen in a while, maybe one of the dragonflight from the order? It’s someone that knows him and isn’t immediately subservient at least

The Dregs

I don’t know if Jacob’s aura would give him pause.

J W

True. How will Zoggie get back on the cliffhanger schedule? Can't have people get used to having midweek cliffs and resolutions all before the weekend.

Endern

I can feel the fo- old man energy

brianpclab

TFTC My guess is the Demon that Jake is the best man for.

Rewdan

😂😂😂😂 I’m done

Rewdan

Draskill should be a true dragon by now 🤔

Alexandre8901

I agree, not the forest king, my guess are SS, Eron or since it's a simulation the dead fucker... Ell'hakan. But safe bet is SS.

definitelynotbrjenness

I keep thinking a lot of people underestimate our favorite harem lord.

Bookreader97

What if it’s a younger version of natures attendant. Them being plants an all

P A J

Didnt consider that the system might do something like simulate Ell'hakan, interesting idea

Brock

I think it is the one the Sword Saint, Eron, Demon Prince, a B Grade Sim version of Villy or Nature’s Attendant. Can’t think of anyone else who would have both a familiar aura and speak like that. If it is a fight, all of these seem like potential 9 pedal challengers.

Jeff McCulley

Better than Golden Showers of Abundance, am I right?

Heelstoo

You’re goddamn right!

Well, they do need to stop, because who wants to sit out for thirty days with abundant treasures laying around?

micah Hogan

Oh man, i didn't even notice that bit! Crazy. BTW what are you doing at this point?

Chance Haggerty

I was thinking it’s the celestial child or the eastbound month

Chance Haggerty

Even if he is a true jargon, Jake would still obliterate him, and it definitely wouldn’t make him pause

definitelynotbrjenness

UNDERESTIMATOR!!! EVERYBODY LOOK WE'VE GOT A DRASKIL UNDERESTIMATOR!!! rem beasts that earn the right to become jargons are normally very strong plus he would be a malefic desolation jargon. I expect he would be one of the strongest jargons for his level. sure jake might beat him, but it won't be easy.

DaMule

Let’s not forget what’s her name from the regal flight of dragons. I think this would be a good spot to reintroduce a top ten finisher from nevermore

Andrew K

Given the nature of the items being collected, an image of Duskleaf is clearly the most appropriate possibility.

Fylbrom

My bet is the Golden Dragon Girl from the Regal Flight. She's haughty and would be a good battle scene for him.

J

Sword saint for sure. The king would have called him “hunter”

William WIlson

Those saying it cant be the eastbound monk might be wrong. What if the eastbound monk is blessed the the soulfist doa lord. You know the one Jake fought twice in coliseum. Honestly im thinking either duskleaf or nature's attendant pulled from Jake's records.

Dell

Keep doing this, I already love seeing someone doing Sylphie.

Schneeente

I don't think it's the sword saint. Reason for my feeling: Person makes it sound like it is not a coincidence that they met, but in an arrogant underlying tone the implication is clear, it's no coincidence, they planned it. Which means the person is also unlikely to be a simulation, but rather a real person (ignore that the whole world is a simulation) The problem with that logic is that you need to answer where that person came from. Sounds like they had waited, which would be insane. Hmmm, I don't know who it is but the person sounds annoying and arrogant. (I mean, I'm basing that assessment on a single short sentence, but still, it's all we have right now)

Corvid

SS or the King would be too obvious. No, the mystery opponent is obviously Minaga. Or maybe Minaga, that guy is more tricksy than Minaga by far.

Corvid

A jargon would be his greatest foe, Jake just admitted he sucks at speeches

Corvid

THE LEGALLY DISTINCT AND NOT COPYRIGHTED FLOW OF ENERGY

Corvid

Yeah, considering her patron is the primordial of being a gremlin, that logic checks out

Eden

Eastblound monk time?

TFTC :) Hope this doesnt turn into one of those old puzzle games where you have to move from area to area collecting things and rubbing every npc and interactable piece of terrain with every brick, key, tube of toothpaste, vial of octopus ink, etc. youd collected to see which one cause a reaction :D Suggested edits: " *if* slightly faster at most." from the phrasing this should be "maybe" “Wonder how Sandy would do *in a place like this*,” Jake continued to mutter to himself, questioning if the worm wouldn’t be kind of screwed *in a place like this*." Repetitive. Change first instance to "here" since that would refer to the current situation and the second would then refer to in general. "that the *rewards* from this area of the Central Domain definitely *had superior rewards*, " repetitive. Perhaps change the second to "were superior"

ZanSanCho

Nah, said it was familiar and hes never met the monk

definitelynotbrjenness

We fell for it. Everybody so caught up in who it is, nobody talking about why they are there. Jake didn't mention seeing anybody in his sphere at the location as he approached. It is someone who has been there a while or arrived from another location. It may be a puzzle instead of a fight. And the person is SS alchemist granddaughter.

J

Well this didn’t age well

Tsurani

For the first time since starting the series ~2 years ago, I’m not really into it. Since the prima event started, it’s felt like the scenes/locations change too quickly, as do the rules that also feel contrived or unclear. Mainly though, the stakes don’t feel real. I get the appeal of being able to fight all out and not worry about dying, but isn’t the entire point of this universe about pushing yourself to your limit on your path?

The_DemoCorgin

Congrats, looks like you're the only one who called it!
