Jake immediately oriented himself after entering the portal, on guard in case there were any dangers afoot. His Pulse scanned the hall he found himself within, finding nothing there of note at a cursory look.

The hall was a lot smaller than the one before, only a few hundred meters in length and height, making it almost appear minuscule compared to the gigantic scale Jake had gotten used to.

Looking around, the gaudy golden theme within the Palace of Abundance continued, with the entire hall beautifully decorated from top to bottom. There were no other living entities anywhere, and Pulse confirmed he was essentially within his own little world with nothing to be seen outside the walls of the hall besides a big, empty void.

Then, suddenly, something finally happened. Towards the far end of the hall, a golden light appeared as something rose out of the ground. It was a large pedestal with carvings all over, held up by an eight-armed creature that was definitely the same one seen on the golden statues.

Jake wasn’t sure what he was looking at, but after moving closer, the system kindly told him as a notification popped up in front of him.

You have discovered an Altar of Abundance!

Treasures obtained within the Central Domain can be converted into Prima Credits at this altar, doubling the Credits received. Offering treasures worth 100,000 Prima Credits (before doubling) will open the path deeper into the Palace of Abundance.

Alternatively, you can destroy the altar to proceed further into the Palace and hold on to the treasures until you reach the Palace of Abundance throne room to obtain even greater rewards. This includes permanent rewards that will persist even outside the World of the Exalted Prima. Assuming the level of Abundance you possess is enough, that is.

The choice is yours, but be wary that those with abundant treasures attract the attention of those who dwell within the Palace.

Finally, Jake had discovered the opportunity to cash in his treasures for additional Prima Credits, and after reading the first half, he was ready for a windfall and a very happy Miranda, who would suddenly get a massive influx of currency.

However, then he read the second part, and, honestly, would anyone ever imagine Jake not holding on to everything with the intent of getting the best reward possible? Especially seeing as, for the first time, there was some confirmation on how to obtain some permanent bonuses from this simulated world.

Granted, it did seem to come with risks. If “those who dwell within the Palace” were similar existences to the cyclopes in the Inner City, it appeared that one was in for another stealth mission unless treasures were turned into Prima Credits.

Then again, it could be that the Palace wouldn’t be the same kind of scenario all over again, given that the first parts of the Central Domain hadn’t been stealth-focused. Jake didn’t particularly care either way... unless the next area of the Palace of Abundance was somehow a water level. Alas, it was a risk he had to take, as Jake didn’t hesitate much before raising a hand.

He enveloped it in arcane energy before slamming it down on the altar, smashing it into pieces. The broken pieces of the altar flew all over before stopping mid-air, where they gathered, forming a door of shimmering golden energy. Walking through it, Jake once more found himself transported elsewhere, having to orient himself immediately.

Jake found himself standing in the middle of a massive hallway, the scale back to stupid proportions as this place was clearly constructed with cyclopes in mind. However, within his Pulse, he didn’t spot a single one, which was a little curious to say the least.

What he instead spotted were incredibly long hallways in all directions, and at first, he assumed they formed some kind of maze, but in reality, they all went towards the same place; some paths would just be a little slower than others. The hallways also had several additional paths, but each only led to a single room to explore, with only one entrance and exit, making it very difficult to get lost.

These rooms were filled with large furniture, again definitely made for cyclopes, which made Jake curious whether there were more treasures within the Palace itself. The only way to find out would be to get a move on, as Jake started sprinting down a hallway.

He kept using Pulse to scout his surroundings, and not long after, he spotted one of the elementals that had been with Wintermaul in the hallway far behind him. Too far for Jake to bother going back there, but it did confirm that at least some of them had been transported to the same space within the Palace.

After reaching a crossroads, Jake headed down the hallway to one of the rooms, intent on exploring it and figuring out why they even existed. The large double gates leading into the room were wide open, and with his sphere, he could far more easily get a proper grasp of everything within the room, because damn, it was packed with stuff.

There was a set of couches, chairs, several tables, and so many shelves that Jake didn’t even bother counting, all of them full of small, random collectibles and decorations. One shelf was full of dried flowers, another had hundreds of small statuettes – small by cyclops standards, anyway – and a third just had a whole bunch of decorated knives.

Regarding treasures, Jake didn’t feel one immediately; however, upon fully entering the room, he suddenly picked up on something. In a display case prominently placed near the center of the room were several coins, each with a different motif. One of these motifs was an eight-armed creature, and before even confirming it, Jake felt certain this would be the treasure he could feel.

He took an extra moment to check out his surroundings, but no matter what, he didn’t detect anything amiss. No formations, no hidden enemies, no nothing. All he continued to see was a single elemental that wasn’t even moving towards him.

Not seeing the need to delay further, Jake flew up to the display case containing the coin. It was locked, and after taking a deep breath, definitely expecting something to happen now, Jake broke the glass to get access to the treasure within.

Surprisingly, nothing happened even then, lulling him into a false sense of security that there truly were no dangers around. He went down to the coin, which was more of a large metal platform from Jake’s perspective, as he landed on it and knelt down, putting a hand on the treasure. As with the treasures of the Inner City, he instantly felt his ability to claim it, and seeing no reason not to, he started pouring in energy... finally provoking some kind of response.

A disturbance has been detected within the Palace of Abundance, awakening the spirits of those bound to the golden halls. Even after their demise, greed dominates their existence, and they’ll stop at nothing to retrieve the treasures of abundance. Only by claiming what they believe rightfully belongs to them can the Specters of Abundance find rest once more.

Right then, Jake felt an unfamiliar energy rise in the room as several odd energy signatures appeared all around him. Looking around, he saw specters of golden energy flying everywhere, reminiscent of ghosts, but none of them registered as truly “real” when Jake looked at them.

He kept a hand on the coin with the intent to claim it while remaining wary, as the specters had definitely all noticed Jake. He felt their attention on him, but they didn’t seem capable of actually interacting with reality – or, well, simulated reality - as none of them moved to attack him immediately.

That’s when several of them shot towards one of the many shelves, where they entered one of the statues. It was a statue resembling a human knight with a two-handed sword and full armor, and while it had looked relatively realistic, Jake hadn’t given it a second thought as it had ultimately still only been a statuette.

Now, after the many Specters of Abundance had entered it, the knight started moving as its form also slightly changed. Its plastic-like exterior turned bronze and metallic as the knight wrestled its feet free from where they had been attached to a base. Jake watched all this with a frown as the ground beneath his feet suddenly disappeared, shrinking to a small coin that now fit in his hand.

You have acquired an Heirloom of the Abundant Emperor, granting you access to the throne room.

He briefly scanned the message, surprised that he was apparently already done with this stage of the Palace of Abundance, as he already had the item required to enter the throne room he’d only learned about moments prior.

Just in time for him to turn his attention to the knight statue that had lifted its sword and jumped down towards his position, aiming to smash him into pieces. Seeing the statue, still about fifteen meters tall, Jake used Identify as he prepared to dodge.

[Bronze Knight of Abundance – lvl 375]

Scratch that, rather than dodge, Jake took out his two katars to test just how strong this weird creature was. Raising them, he attempted to block the downward slash, but the strike was still powerful enough to send him crashing through the bottom of the display case, sending wood and glass flying everywhere along with all the other coins it had housed.

A decently powerful variant, Jake concluded as he quickly dodged out of the way after reaching the floor, dodging a follow-up from the knight. Raising a hand, he shot out a bolt of arcane mana towards the odd creature, but it failed to do any damage as it struck the metal body of the statue.

In response, the knight slammed its sword into the floor, and as it did so, several of the surrounding Specters of Abundance entered the tiles, making them also seemingly come to life as they warped and created spears that shot up towards Jake.

Jake really had to dodge these as he wasn’t sure if he could destroy the material these floor tiles were made of, making him take to the air. After the floor attacked him, it surprisingly returned to normal once more, and after the knight took its sword out, Jake also noticed how any damage left by the sword had instantly been restored.

While Jake was curious to see what this Bronze Knight of Abundance was capable of, he also felt a need to hurry up and onward to the throne room, making him decide to quickly wrap things up. Pulling out his bow, he dodged a golden crescent slash before returning fire.

The knight was blasted back with a nick in its metallic body, and as he struck it, Jake also noticed something else that made his eyebrows raise.

I should have thought about that right from the get-go, he admitted to himself, remembering how this knight had even started moving. It was practically just a possessed object used by the Specters of Abundance, so why even bother destroying the knight? No reason to destroy an entire car if all one had to do was take out the driver.

Before the knight could attack again, Jake looked straight at it as his eyes began to glow orange after using Primal Gaze with the intent to kill. The knight froze, then seemed to have spasms as Jake continued staring it down, the Specters of Abundance within eliminated one by one, until, after a few seconds, the knight fell backward, nothing more than an inanimate object once more.

You have slain [Bronze Knight of Abundance – lvl 375] – Bonus experience earned for killing an enemy above your level

Jake smirked slightly, fully aware he’d barely earned any experience from that, but he didn’t really care. Having the knight off his ass was a great thing, and with it taken care of, Jake turned to rush out of the room and towards where he expected the throne room to be.

However, after he’d barely started moving, the surrounding Specters of Abundance suddenly all rushed down towards the inanimate knight statue once more, and a moment later, it clenched its fists and rose again, its surface shimmering and changing as its body also rapidly started shrinking.

The bronze cracked apart, revealing a glossy layer beneath as the knight’s aura grew rapidly, its new armor turning silvery, prompting Jake to use Identify again, surprised by the result.

[Silver Knight of Abundance – lvl 400]

With a swift movement, the sword that had fallen to the ground flew up into the knight’s hand as it swung, sending out a shockwave of silver light that forced Jake back. Its aura exploded as the possessed statue charged forward, far faster and stronger than before after having effectively evolved and gained 25 levels.

Jake had to drop his relaxed demeanor and reacted by using Arcane Awakening at its stable 30%, as, rather than run, his curiosity had been sparked enough to stay. Perhaps it was because all the cyclopes recently had either been far too powerful or too weak to fight, but he was itching for a battle, and seeing the now roughly five-meter-tall knight, Jake had a hope this opponent would be capable of entertaining him for a little while.

Would this delay him reaching the throne room? Sure, by a little, but that was a sacrifice he was willing to make if it meant he’d get a fun fight out of it. The knight swung at him several times, Jake retreating with every swing, no longer willing to block its attacks as he instead tried to create some distance.

Releasing an Arrow Storm, the knight didn’t even flinch as it flew straight through all the explosions, not a single sign of damage on its body. Jake tried shooting a few more potshots, but his arcane arrows barely left nicks in the silver body of the knight, making him frown.

It was bloody durable, reminding him of the times he’d sparred with Carmen. This level of durability made him consider using another Primal Gaze even if the level disparity was quite a bit bigger now, but he stopped himself as doing so did seem a little too risky.

More Specters of Abundance appeared all the time in the room, and while Jake probably could “kill” this knight again, he had a strong feeling it would simply rise again, even stronger the third time around. While that did sound a little exciting, he shouldn’t go overboard and exhaust himself when he still had many more interesting people to meet among the other Administrators.

He continued shooting a few more arrows, only further confirming that if he wanted to do any noticeable damage to the silver knight, he’d have to use Arcane Powershot or potentially acids. He considered both, but ultimately chose a third option.

This was a good chance, wasn’t it? A tanky foe capable of pressing him somewhat, and a nice empty room for them to battle in... yeah, this was definitely a good time to work on skills meant to tackle opponents like this, and he just happened to have two with the words “penetrating” and “piercing” in their names that were both due for some improvements.

QUEENSLANDER!!!!!!!

Fdrugc

He should throw some diluted Primeval Origins energy.

Noah Sterling

Ooh, skills improvement time. It's about time he stopped slacking off on that!

djthomp

So many participants will be happy that the forced sneaky times are over. Skill upgrade sessions are usually interesting so I like the sound of this plan.

Josie

What are his skills? There's so many.. I think Penetrating Arrow and Piercing Fang? That sounds incorrect though

definitelynotbrjenness

which is more valuable to an early b grade jake: natural treasures or loot or upgrading a skill?

Josie

Time to introduce greed to Hunger 😈

Xander

TFTC :) Yay Rare skill on the path to upgrade :) Just gotta get supreme stealth attack bumped up too and I can live with Tracking staying at rare :D Suggested edits: "where they gathered *once more*," Little repetitive since you use this again in 11 words. Just ditch this one. "and he started *running* down a hallway." similar to before, I dont think running fits. Traveling, moving, navigating.

Xander

I looked at the skill list and those do seem to be the two

Xerecs

Well I think this tells us that at least the next two chapters will be skill progression and we won't see any advancement within the palace until maybe monday.

Randy McNulty

Jake looking down at his imaginary watch, “yeah, I got some time”

Jim Butler

I really hope this plotline picks up. This whole event has been kind of lame since they got into the central zone. At least give us some updates with the wars going on outside. Jake's been sneaking around the whole time not fighting anyone.

Michael mann

I will always love Jake’s mindset of “Huh strong foe, what a great training dummy”

Justin

This. Been waiting for Jake to be up against some impossible foe and just cheese it with “delete” using his primeval origins energy. Then get a cut from the god running this whole show like “wtf”

Rewdan

Jake out there staring down an animated Knight like he’s looking at a traffic warden. Thanks Zogarth

Rewdan

Skills > loot while having as much fun as possible

Clint

Looking like this is more of a speed/evasion test than a combat one — supposed to run to the throne room with an unbeatable pursuer half a step behind. But that doesn’t mean Jake can’t break the test.

BumAssBumAss

Upgrades incoming. Jake might touch the concept of penetration/piercing directly like the sword saint did with slashing/sharpness back in nevermore.

Botond Nyitrai

Bet he could practice that with Artemis as well (I'm sorry)

Xander

Ill do you one better. Jake wins this event, has a few more fights, becomes a god, finds and claims the first Ultra Planet, larger than a great planet and the size of the pre-intergration observable universe, names it Primal 1, then defeats Rigoria to become the first primordial slayer and helps villy ressurect his dead loved ones. There now you never have to read another chapter again. Happy now?

Jim Butler

Jake hasn't had a real fight in almost 40 chapters. Totally being unrealistic and asking for an actual fight.

R Mac

I agree. It feels like months of filler. I don’t think primal hunter is at its strongest when the focus is on an event (this and nevermore/other dungeons). The story is best focused on the characters interactions with each other and setting up conflicts with interesting fights. A bunch of levels and side quests are really tiring. Some are fine, but months long slogs reading about one quest after another with no payoff is rough.

Grimsayer

Enter the unkillable monster part of the level. Reminds me of a section in the game Deadspace.

Jamaal Hill

I kinda agree about the pace of this arc, but I'm holding out for massive payoff. Keep in mind that the world congress, the prima battles, the myriad paths event (sim jake/ eternal shadow), the fight against the exalted prima, and the whole galaxy wide administrator selection all led to this event. So every stage thus far has include a lot of fighting except myriad paths, I'm sure it's coming

ABTelford

Ttfc, this was a very enjoyable read.

Josh Hackney

When is he going to start working on evolving Eternal Shadow!?

Jordan Rogers

Zogarth I love all the nitty gritty chapters with stats, evolutions, skill upgrades, all of it, but please don’t ever stop unless you really need to. I’m gonna need to see Jake’smaking it to God hood giving the juice to villy to bring back his family., but hopefully you still got another couple thousand chapters in you before that

Loststar7

Meets higher level opponent. Normal people: this is dangerous let me get the hell out of here Jake : cool time to work on skill upgrades. TFTC and happy Wednesday everyone

CJ King

Thank you for the chapter

Josie

Yeah and even then I'd be surprised if it's all wrapped up in just 2 chapters. The skill descriptions alone feel like half a chapter now lol

Xerecs

Yea i know I'm really hoping Zog doesn't fall down the rabbit hole like defiance of the fall. When entire chapters become conceptual explanations and the story becomes afterthought.. I haven't been able to continue the last two audiobooks as it just got so frustrating.

A building conflict with the church or dao sect would be cool. Of course the only close 1v1 I want to see Jake in is against the sword saint or maybe the king. I like my MCs OP. Hopefully Jake’s next competition as a B grade is meant for A grades.

James Durowse

So he is not too bothered about winning the race of abundance then even with the mention of permanent rewards and a clear advantage, and would rather spar with a random no name golem than rushing to find the other strong contenders he has the perfect opportunity to face, this is the same guy that got rank 1 in the never more leaderboard race? Sorry if my last 2 comments are a bit negative, I have felt the characterisation is a bit off in the arc but the content is very interesting.

Ty Cooper

Seeing the old man sparked some competition

Patryk

Like wdym spar? It seems to be an official (system imposed) guardian of the treasure he just swiped, and running away to lose it may not be an option. And trying to gaze it again instead of making the statue dead will prob lead to some lvl 425 golden knight of abundance

definitelynotbrjenness

I don't read the skill descriptions and jump to the summary/ decision making, but it feels like nearly half the patreons REALLY love the detailed descriptions, so I accept them as necessary. If zog and others like them, meh, I'll deal with them. But yeah DoTF would have frustrated me if I tried to patreon it.

Staudi

Tyftc!

Xerecs

I'm not saying it's bad just that it's more the length that can be an issue. There needs to be a balance to it as ultimately the author is also telling a story and when you get too involved in the explanation instead of telling the story it stops being enjoyable at least for me. This is the only author I current patreon for I've only ever listened to the DoTF audiobooks it was either end of 14 or the start of 15 where I got super frustrated with it.

James Durowse

He can teleport by stepping and predict perfectly any dangerous attacks as well as the correct way to go with his instincts, also the system states he needs to avoid them while getting to his destination and then he will get the true permanent rewards, so imo the spirit isn’t a threat to safety just a durable punching bag he will use for skill upgrades, which is also fine I love skill upgrades, but in my opinion, which fine if I’m wrong, his and others characterisation has been off in the race to the palace of abundance section with a lack of emotional urgency and competitiveness compared to how they would normally be or have previously been in other arcs. He has right now a clear cut advantage over both the ones he didn’t let through, and all the others he just let through, and it’s always previously been that the best prizes go to the people that do the best the fastest, so he would be risking that permanent gain he can only get now for one he could get at any point with a random durable opponent

Beef Wrench

Can not lie that was smooth

Seen Death

Still reading, but that made me think- with all sorts of beings out there, there has to be some that would have instant death to mundane things right? There might be some leeway as the individuals got stronger, for example a mundane silver butter knife is probably not a threat to a c grade But what if someone was deathly allergic to water, and a dungeon spawns them inside it? Probably just natural selection, or just being forced to avoid any scenerio where it could be a possibility? Idk

Seen Death

Still reading the chapter myself, but id just like to point out that jake was far from the fastest in nevermore, although he was the best The holy church (and some other factions although maybe to a lesser extent others) basically suicide speedran parts of nevermore just to be first, or to open up a shop/territory in the safe zones etc. Also, i think avoiding the first encounters in a new area would be foolish- because it could be used as training wheels to see what the later (and more dangerous) next sections can contain

Seen Death

I think the principals of the dao sect make it very difficult to be a actual enemy force to jake, they respect free will just like jake does, and can meditate to gain strength instead of needing conflict. There might be a couple individuals who could oppose Jake as a individual / small group, but i think theyd appreciate him more for spars than theyd want him exterminated The church is a bit more complicated though, with many inner factions having different directions- and their overall heavy handedness it makes it quite difficult Not to be direct enemies to Jake. I am very glad jake kicked them out of his universe lmao But then there is the Holy Mother, who is a fellow primordial to Villy Im not remembering much about Jakes interaction with the Holy Mother when they met in Nevermore, which probably means it wasnt too significant either way. Jake didnt seem overly hostile, but with the interactions hes had with their followers in the past he was definitely averted from a positive impression Tldr: Probably some great fights with individuals from the dao sect, and extremely heavy losses from the churches side in the future lol Mostly because Jake usually travels as an individual, and the church loves their sacrifical mass groups of people happy to throw their lives away for whatever BS reason

Seen Death

Im kind of in dissagreement with the desire to bring back villys family While the viper would definitely like the result, not every sad story is a problem meant to be (attempted to be) fixed. Maybe Villy sees something about Jake that leads him to believe he could be of assistance, and asks for it But otherwize its kind of overstepping for Jake to offer (even though we havnt seen anything that could even prove jake could bring back the dead) The closest thing Jake did was bring Vespy back, but that is an extreme example of particular evolution in her race. She acknowledges she isnt the same exact Vespernat that has previously died, although she inherited her lineage memories right? (Atleast thats what i think im remembering correctly) We dont know much about what villys family race was, but its probably unlikely they would be close to primeval origins of certain aspects. Like if villy died, and jake juiced up a snake, it would most likely get some traits Villy has, because hes influenced the race so much but it wouldnt suddenly become Villy again idk If Jake juiced up a C>B grade Minaga i bet it wouldnt even do anything, or it would give him levels to bring him closer to the origin of Minaga which would be Minaga, therefore just speeding up the inevitable process lol

James Durowse

And I agree that he got more in nevermore from setting up the floors to give their maximum rather than flying through everything fast as possible, and that there could be good info to be gained, but not that it overrides a clear cut advantage in an event that so far has significantly hinged on getting there first in order to have access to all available treasures, I mean obviously jasper is there already but that’s not the point! Also the other comment I made was about how all the most powerful people are behaving exactly like jake this arc and not wiping out the weaker people that they see, which makes no sense as they get more points from that for the overworld than they do from getting treasures, and I believe they get their treasures too, and the overworld advantage is one of the main points of this. Anyway my point is about internal character motivation rather than if it works externally, as of course he will get even better bonuses from this or something, the writer is on his side.

Joshua Little

Nice, skill upgrades. I wonder if the body is still considered a material and the arcane flame and destroy it. Thanks for the chapter.

definitelynotbrjenness

Not many mentions that 0 calorie Jake juice melts anything in this simulation.

Sarianne

Of course he takes the opportunity to improve on his skills 😅 wouldn't be Jake if he took the easy way out 😂

SR

You know, every territory that wants to continue on with the event has to secure 1 million prima credits from the central domain before it shuts down. I’m surprised Jake hasn’t done any hedging to at least secure that first 1 million. I also wonder how Vesperia’s territory will manage the 1 million credit requirement, given that she elected to not go to the central domain.

robert o sparrow

Looks at his watch…” yea its knight time”

Dave

Nice

Gh0st-Hunt3r

except he already said that he can't use it during combat! I'm pretty sure anyway.

Gh0st-Hunt3r

I'm pretty sure that Magic the system and evolutions Makes ALL those kinds of things Impossible or rather that things like cancer, Tumors, brain diseases, and things like Allergies aren't a thing anymore!

Gh0st-Hunt3r

I also wanna object to your statement that its not within Jakes Characterization to Fight a Golem even if its a rando golem his PATH has always been to seek out and Hunt prey significantly stronger than him and through this whole Arc He hasn't really Followed his path with the exception of the battle with the Behemoth & Archfiend! So as i said Jake + Fighting ANYTHING Higher level and stronger= JAKES PATH

Parker Bond

If I was Jake I would have donated 100k of my least valuable items and kept the staff, most valuable flowers/statues/etc.

Max Patel

I kinda think he should experiment with blowing things up via primeval origin energy... as long as he feels he has enough to use should it count. Seems like an OP hack he hasn't considered using (though I guess his instincts would/will tell him when it's the right time to use it)
