The Korean tradition of "picking thread" refers to the Doljabi (돌잡이), a symbolic fortune-telling ritual performed during a baby's first birthday celebration, known as Doljanchi (돌잔치). During the Doljabi, the baby is placed before a variety of objects, and the item they choose is believed to predict their future. If the baby picks up a spool of thread, it is traditionally believed to signify a long and healthy life. While a spool of thread is a common and significant item, other Doljabi objects and their meanings include: Pencil or brush: Academic success or intelligence. Money: Wealth. Rice: A life of abundance and plenty. Bow and arrow: A military career (traditionally for boys, but less common now). Pincushion or needlework items: Flexibility, creativity, or skill in domestic arts (traditionally for girls, but less common now)..... sorry for the Ai result. Had to look it up cause I didn't know either
