Hye y'all,

I am late on this, I even wrote it all out before we left, but as the tour goes on I can no longer sit down and focus on work stuff. Read the other high five posts here.

  • House - incredibly campy ( a severed head bites a woman's butt) Japanese horror movie from 1977 with lots of special effects and experimental camera tricks. There is an evil kitty that is a very memorable villain plus odd music and a tenuous plot about characters as stereotypical as the names Gorgeous, Kung Fu, Prof, Melody, and Sweet sound but somehow it manages to grab you. It's the Spice Girls and Scooby Doo with some Dead Alive thrown in. A movie made for watching over and over again and for initiating your friends into when they come over to hang.

  •  The Last Baron by Mastodon, Atlanta Georgia legends, and therefore loosely connected to the Organized Noize post from last week. Plus I have tickets to see them play Crack The Skye in its entirety and Coheed and Cambria is opening. The song has so many incredible moments in it. It's a 13 minute journey into the end. Always stretch before intense headbanging!

  •  Take a break from sounds - Turn off the podcasts, audio books, and music for 30 minutes a day. Blasting sounds and thoughts from other people all day doesn't give your mind the ability to rest. You need take a break for you brain to categorize and soak in the last 24 hours of experience. This is when problems get solved, when you're not forcing yourself into overtime hyper-focus and trying to will a solution out of yourself. Breaks, naps, sleep, rest, etc. These are the times when our strength develops.

  • Retail nightmares - a really funny podcast that I have only listened to for a few months. They are hilarious and the conversations with their guests go into some off the wall places that I don't hear anywhere else. The interstitial music and segments are all really fun as well.  Great if you like to hear people complain about bad jobs and small business tyrants.

  • Moodpath - This is a mental health app I used for a while before getting into journaling.  Basically it will ask you questions about how you're feeling and then keep track of your moods. You can then write down any notes with your check in. It's a neat way to track your day to day feelings and then get some feedback. I found that just typing, "I woke up pretty mad today but I worked it out and am feeling more prepared to handle things today." is a great mood booster and wonderful tool for getting pesky thoughts off your chest. There are some good guided meditations on it as well plus it's all free.

Peace,

Brett
