Hope things are going well since the last time you read this. We are back in the saddle again which means we will be home the entire month of September recording the basement and taking your calls. I am working on getting another ABCD call-in show together. Listen to our show with Struggle Session and listen to me talk about sex work with Antonia Crane.
Upcoming live shows with Kath Barbadoro
- 10/14 - Austin, TX
- 10/16 - Oklahoma City, OK
- 10/17 - Dallas, TX - Sons Of Hermann Hall - TICKETS - facebook event
- 10/18 - Houston, TX
- Before Sunrise - The Before movies are still so damn good. Start with the first one, and enjoy the 20 year ride. Here is my review of the first movie from Letterboxd " A wonderful conversation that doesn't feel dated at all. It manages to capture the feeling and memories of falling in love so incredibly well. Especially the parts where Jesse says something boneheaded, or ruins the magic with an explanation of how they're getting worked over by the entertainers they meet along the way. Celine is incredibly sharp and frustrated, and her level of honesty is inspirational. Diving in to the most potent subject matter a mere hours after their meeting and the level of comfortability that builds over the evening feels so wonderfully natural. No Deus Ex Machina or sweeping cinematics bring them together for a fairy tale wedding. It's still quite incredible to think of that ending without cell phones to keep in touch. Absolutely must watch for everyone. "

- Death Traitors - I love this brand. There is a lot of bold anti-war pieces that are more affordable than most hypebeast clothing. Get some shit no one else has.
- Mogul Podcast - If you like old hip hop stories you may have heard of Mogul, they did a mini-series on the life of Chris Lighty, the manager of Diddy, LL, Missy, etc. Well they've returned with a mini-series about one of my favorite podcasters, Reggie Osse', aka Combat Jack. The history of his life as an attorney representing some of the biggest upstart acts of the day, the unique stories he had about them, and the peek into 80's hip hop lifestyle in New York City is just incredibly good.
- Navigating Office Politics When You Hate Hierarchies sent in by Mike - "How do I learn to navigate politics and unfairness when it just seems to be so not who I am? Am I doomed to never survive in an office? How do I get over this without feeling like they’ve “won” by getting me to shut up and accept this? Any tips or pointers would be so very appreciated."
Read that whole thing in the link, but it is a lot to ask. I would say you need to do enough time theft and regular theft to the point where you feel like you are winning over them. It's a lot easier to follow orders that way. What do y'all think?
- This Dust Makes That Mud by Liars - I stumbled upon this track again while revisiting some old favorites. Their debut album, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top, is a monster. I love this whole thing as much as I did as a kid. What I forgot about it was that 30 minutes of a motorik closer, The Dust That Makes That Mud. This tune is not for the faint of heart. It’s longer than the rest of the album. I don’t even want to suggest that listening to this is a superior use of your time, but my god when that groove finally builds and then gets going, over and over again, it’s just hypnotic. Repetition in music can be thrilling, because no utterance of any phrase can repeat the last, kraut rock understood this, and plenty of other masters of sound know that the repetition creates madness. It’s 30 minutes long and it will make you feel like time is folding in itself, and the madness will set in but it really hits the spot. Recommend for Stereolab fans, drone maniacs, Kraut rock geeks, etc
